Which 9mm would you choose?

I don't know a darn thing about autos...I've only shot a couple of rounds through a 380,but my sister's husband just bought a Springfield Armory,in 9mm,I think and I can't wait to try it out. At first he was set on a S&W,but for whatever reason changed his mind. Haven't had a chance to talk to him about it. Like myself,in his 60s and just getting into guns. I see a few of you like them.

Glock G19 or a CZ 75D PCR for compacts that work, conceal well and are actually fun and accurate to shoot. Ruger is notable for their revolvers, Kahr has good and bad reviews, and the baby Glock is just too small for me.

I have to ask the questions about the Glocks

My beliefs:

Positive:
dead on reliability
decent accuracy
nice trigger
Great choice for OWB CCW

My concerns / dislikes

For IWB CCW, the Glock light trigger seems too light and short
As I stuff a pistol in my IWB holster, there are many times I have to
move the shirt out of the way. My concern is with this light trigger
a bit of shirt could get in the trigger guard and cause a ND.

The "angle" of the grip doesnt fit me.

Am I the only one with the ND concern?

Clearly all of the Glocks are great guns, but

For me, I want a DA/SA or a LONGER trigger for IWB

I'd say you have a valid concern and until you either trust that your shirt cannot trip the trigger safety and push the trigger enough to fire it or get a new holster then you're best bet is to not IWB one. Much like carrying with one in the pipe, do what makes you comfortable. I carry IWB and OWB with my Glocks and there is one in the chamber. I don't believe my shirt(s) could ever get in there enough to cause an ND. Not saying you *should* believe that but I trust it or I wouldn't carry it. I'm moving towards the kydex IWB holsters like Crossbreed or Blade-Tech and I just have more faith in them than a leather or nylon IWB holster since they tend to take reholstering easier.

If it has to be a 9mm, then my choice would be a Glock 19. Ammo choice would be a steady diet of Speer Gold Dot 124gr. +P JHP (save money - buy in bulk).

I have the G27. It's a joy to shoot, and it carries appendix, nicely. It's the largest and heaviest of my carry rotation, but the only thing I ever notice about it while carrying is the back corner of the slide. It's pointy. This can limit the number of comfortable carry positions. The Ruger appears more rounded, but the slide also seems to extend back a little farther.

Ruger

I have used rugers and have found them to be the best all around guns made. Customer service, ease of operation, cleaning and care are easy.

The Glock 26. Easy to shoot, clean, work on and get parts for. 10, 12, 15, 17, 19, 31 and 33 rd. mags. Night sights and a 3.5 connector - you're ready.

You won't need the parts, anyway. :neener:

3.5 connector - you're ready.

I did the 25 cent trigger polish job on my first glock. On my 2nd glock, I bought a ghost 3.5lb connector. I swapped them back and forth trying to tell a difference. Honestly, a good polish job felt better. From now on, I just polish them and use that $15-$20 on two 50 round boxes of ammo at walmart. :)

Found a FNP9 used and going to check it out real soon. Anyone have any thoughts? I know it's full sized but it's a good price. Should be good for range and HD. I always have my LCP for carry. Any thoughts?

I would not call a FNP full sized. They are compact 9mms IMHO. They are very good guns. Just short of being great. They are very Sig like. I have owned a few. They are a great value when you can get them under $450.

Thanks. I'll check it out. I've heard good things too but it wasn't on my radar.

I have not read much (if anything) bad about FNPs. If you wind up getting it, enjoy!

If not, and you go back to looking at Glocks, here's something to consider when choosing a G19 vs. a G26 (especially a Gen3 or older G19): whether the grip forces the barrel high of your natural point of aim.

Here's what my old G19 looked like when I gripped it:

In particular, note how the bottom of the backstrap (just to the right of the Glock logo) pushed into the fleshy part of my hand:

This actually forced the barrel to point high from my natural point of aim. I had to cock my wrist to get the barrel to point back on target.

However, this is me holding my G26 (I traded the G19 for the G26):

Don't have the same problem. The G26 points much more naturally for me and it's easier to aim. Even with a 15-round mag from the G19 and the grip extension from A&G, it still doesn't push into my hand the same way a G19 does.

On the other hand, if that's not a problem for you, then disregard this post entirely. :)

Good luck!

While the difference is very small when measured, the gen4 19's have noticeably less "junk in the hump" than the gen3 19's. Some like it, some don't. I love it. Just another thing to consider!

I know everyone on here is a big Glock fan, but for concealed carry, why would you choose a sub compact that is the same width as a full size auto? They are full sized pistols with a shorter barrel and grip that uses double stack ammo.
I have been meaning to take a look at the Glock 45 slim though. It is their only one that uses a single stack clip.

I would say Kahr or the Ruger.

The Kahr CW9 is .90" wide

The G26 is 1.18"

The SR9c is 1.27" at the safety levers.

Agreed the Kahr is the thinnest but we're not talking about a huge difference in width, roughly a 1/4 inch or so.

Personally I like the wider grip of the Glock as it helps to spread the felt recoil better when actually shooting it.

I spend a lot of time at the range with my carry guns and prefer a gun that's comfortable to shoot a lot of rounds through.

Although I do agree that strictly from a carry and ease of concealibility aspect the Kahr is a better choice.

Well I looked at the FNP9 and it is a nice gun too bad it was a greenish brown on the bottom. Handled the Kahr and Glock 19 & 26 again. Told LGS I'm going to need a few more days on this one.

Because I shoot well with it and I can carry it concealed in shorts and a t-shirt. If I can carry it like that, why go with less rounds or a smaller weapon? I don't like wearing baggy clothes, either. I don't even have to go plus two on my pants if I carry at 4 o'clock.

That one always seemed like an answer to a request the market has been making...but a poor execution. The slide isn't any slimmer. Just my 2 cents which is worth less than that. :)
