Which of your guns would you most trust to work right now?

Out of a dozen various firearms, there are only two that I can't positively say will fire five rounds flawlessly (for this thread I am ignoring the single shot guns). They are my MN ex-Dragoon as I don't always have a 2x4 handy to operate the bolt, and my Mini 14. The Mini 14 is mostly reliable, but will occasionally fail to eject a round. I chalk that up to it only having a hundred rounds or so through it, something I plan to remedy soon.

The only thing I have left from the boating accident is an oar. I can throw that oar pretty hard if needed.

I guess my question , W/ all due respect, would be; Why would you own a gun that you wouldn't trust to get off 5 aimed rounds W/ out a mishap of some kind.

I trust all the guns in my SD rotation to fire when they must. However I don't practice failure drills cause they are fun, and I don't carry a BUG because I like having a pound of metal in my pants pocket. So my autos get 99% trust, the 649 & the 442 run near 99.5% and my old friend, model 66 runs upwards of 99.9%.

It is a tough question, in my heart I trust them all, in my mind I know the the first FTF could be the next pull of the trigger. I would pick the M 66.

hmmmm.... I would have to say my 870 HD or my Henry.... 870 has jammed once or twice but the Henry hasn't failed me yet after thousands of rounds....

I wouldn't own a SD gun that I couldn't trust, but that's not the only reason I own guns. The Nagant I mentioned does nothing but go to the range. I can tolerate a rough action there.

I have a number of guns that wouldn't pass the five-shot test. My AR stripped lower, for example. Great-great-uncle's Iver Johnson .38 s&w. The RG that I found in a hollow textbook.

I don't need them to defend myself or others. I don't need them to put food on the table.

I'm still keeping them.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

Just to clarify, I'm not necessarily suggesting a home defense situation... just if you were asked to choose the one gun right now that you know would fire 5 times reliably... which would it be?

To answer some of the questions, I trust that all of my guns will fire when the trigger is pulled.

My Savage 110 bolt action will occasionally jam if the bolt is cycled at a certain speed. One FTF entirely due to ammo. It's 100% a range gun, and I normally feed it one by one, so it's not a big deal.

Once or twice, the 870 extracted a shell, ejector kicked it, and the shell ended up sticking out of the ejection port perpendicular to the barrel. Sure it's just a fluke, but it's possible.

WASR-10 jammed because of the mags. I bought it, and essentially took it straight to the range. One of the mags looked like it had been dropped on the feed lips. It jammed. I was fairly sure it would. I only have 60 rounds through it, and I know I'll work it out till it goes bang every time.

But right now, the gun that I know will work is the Beretta.

I don't have to hold it a certain angle, cycle it the way it likes, feed it certain ammo, or do anything else. It just works.

I would trust all of my guns except my Marlin model 99 which misfires after every other round and royally agravates me. Its such an accurate rabbit killer i cant get rid of it. I hope to remedy this soon.

Well, with the new details I would say the one I trust the most is my GP100. There is not a doubt in my mind that if I pick it up right now it. Will. Fire. All five rounds, every time.

But right now, the gun that I know will work is the Beretta.

That would be my second grab. About 1200 rounds with no issues. A few dud cartridges, but nothing I can blame the gun on.

First, my Colt Python. I've had it for over a decade and have never had a single problem.

SW Models 65,66 and 686. My Saiga's have been %100. My Mossberg's are ready and tested. My AR Spike's Tactical one jam, bad ammo. has been %100 last 500 rds. My Kel-tec 380 tested every trip to the range. Gun's that don't shoot go away at my house...

The one long gun that has always shot without a problem out of every single weapon that I have is the MOSSBERG 500A Security 8-shot... incidentally, it's also one of the cheapest guns I have. My most reliable pistol is the Glock 26.

Revolvers don't count. For them, it's just the bullet, not the gun that is the problem 99.232284% of the time.

WHOA , hold up there bud, That sounds like a story worth hearing.
Mind sharing?

Yup, sounds like a good story. Not gonna ask what subject the book was about, but I would like to know what school you were at.

Only a couple of guns I wouldn't implictly trust. My father's 1911 until I check to see if it likes the new ammo, and the Ruger Mark I (flaky reputation on that one).

At the range with the Mark I, shooting anything other than Mini Mags: *pop!* "Jammed again." *clear the jam* *pop!* "What the heck? Jammed again!" *clear the jam*. Repeat until the mag is empty.

All of my guns are kept in good working order. But, when the chips are down, here's the list:

Pistol: my Glock 37 duty weapon. 10,000 rounds through the gun without a single solitary hiccup.

Rifle: Norinco SKS. I've had this gun for years, it has also never had even a single problem.

I was tempted to include my Colt AR-15 duty weapon on this list, but it just recently choked twice during a qualification course (The sad part is that this problem occurred immediately after I told one of my fellow officers how happy I had been with the weapon's reliability, and that it had never choked on me... I *hate* irony sometimes). I honestly think that the problem was either because of a bad mag, or a bad loading of a magazine that I loaded from stripper clips (not my standard loading practice). Still, this gun's overall track record still inspires confidence, and there is always the possiblity that I'll end up having to trust my life to it.

My AK will fire every time I pull the trigger. So will my Sig P226.

I'm sure my other guns will work just as well, but if I had to choose just one, I would choose the AK or the Sig.

BTW, my sig is 9mm, the old stamped kind, and in the years that I have had it I couldn't tell you how many rounds I've put through it, but I can tell you how many have had a failure of any kind. Zero.
