Who carries a pocket pistol?

I do. It's all I carry, except for rare occasions.

So I'm curious, does anyone carry a small pocket pistol? If so, why?

Two reasons:

1. Convenience
2. It's more than I'll probably ever need

YMMV

So, other than the fact that .25s are center fire and therefore more reliable than .22lr, why would you choose that over a .22? I've heard .22s are better at stopping threats than .25s.

I get that "you wouldn't want to be shot by one", but in terms of stopping a violent attack, would a .25 suffice?

I guess I just find the idea of small underpowered pistols intriguing.

I carry a Kel-Tec P32 in a pocket, but only when traveling to and from my no-carry job site (and on rare occasions when belt carry is not appropriate.) I'm competent enough with it, and confident enough in it, for this purpose.

Most other times (pretty much during all waking/dressed hours), though, it's a PF9 on the belt.

There are some well-worn cases of people taking a few rounds of .25ACP and continuing to fight, but could we not cite cases involving .45ACP and .357 Magnum?

Regardless of caliber and even shot placement, a person who takes a bullet is going to be discouraged from continuing to fight and at least partially disabled from the same. Just how discouraged and disabled will vary a lot, but taking a round will always result in some degradation in fighting ability. That is why so many people advocate, for those who must carry something tiny or carry no gun at all, carrying a small caliber mouse gun.

I have started working toward carrying a pocket .380, specifically a TCP. The thing is really small, very light, and so far reliable with decent ammo (it does not like steel cased stuff). I have not tried any JHPs yet and may never, since I plan to carry ball ammo.

Most of my workplaces preclude carry, so I like to keep something in the car in a lockbox. When I dress for going someplace where I can carry, I test carry the TCP for a while before I head out the door, and I find that it virtually disappears on my person whether I'm wearing shorts or a suit. Since I don't expect to need more than 13 rounds on most days (that was a joke--get it?), one in the pipe and two mags full will do until the mongol hoard comes charging over the hill.

As for the .380 round being powerful enough to save my life? You bet it is--if I mostly hit my targets.

The most comfortable one I own is the lcp. I also carry my sp101, bond arms 410, sw shield 40 but the lcp
is the best "in the pocket".

Kel-Tec P32 always in my pocket. Why? It shoots well, is controllable, and utterly reliable. It goes bang every time, and hits where its pointed. Thin, light and comfortable. Would I want to be in a long gun fight with it? No. Its a close in pistol.

This should go in the "Myths" thread. The .22 is NOT better than the .25

The .22 out of a long barrel is better than a .25 out of a short barrel, but that is apples to oranges.

Out of similar barrels the .25 is better. You get a more reliable centerfire round, with a real jacketed bullet (not just plated). Also, while both rounds will be traveling at similar velocity, the .25 weighs 10gr or so more (50gr vs 40gr for the 22).

So .25 will be more dependable AND hit harder, if only by a small amount (10 foot pounds maybe?)

I pretty much ALWAYS have my little NAA Mini in .22lr on me.

Most days the only places I go is to and from work and it is the smallest pistol I have and I don't even notice it. I also have to be extremely discreet at work. Sure, it may not be ideal. But, it is better than the 1911 I leave at home because it is too big.

On my days off when I am running errands around town or if I have to run an errand during the week. My 1911 goes on my hip with 2 spare mags in my back pocket in addition to the NAA in my front pocket.

So they make pocket holsters small enough? I've never seen one, but I get the impression that they're practically keychain guns. Also, do you use high velocity rounds? I can't imagine that the barrel would be long enough to take advantage of it. Are you confident with it? I know they make a .22 mag version, although I hear it's ear-splittlingly loud.

I pocket-carried a S&W 637 for a long time but will be switching to my hard-chromed Radom P-64 as soon it comes home from Mahovsky's. Just as small and two more shots.

I carry a Seecamp .32 in pocket, sometimes IWB. Its so small it goes completely unnoticed below the waistline.

Yep on the pocket holsters: http://northamericanarms.com/accessories/m-accessories/m-holsters.html

The .22 short NAA is pretty tiny, I sometimes carry a .22 Mag NAA (pic below) as a backup gun to my 1911. I have small hands so I can shoot it pretty well. Mine also came with a .22 LR cylinder that I can quickly swap in. It's better than nothing and kind of neat, but as a serious self defense weapon... well not really. They are a kick to shoot! I always wear ear protection so I don't really know how loud the .22 Mag is.

I always have a gun where it is legal, and the majority of the time that gun is a Kel-Tec P3AT in a Desantis pocket holster. I shoot it well enough but definitely not as good as I shoot 1911's.

I build/install performance engines and work on race cars, so carrying a larger gun is often impractical due to my positions in, around, and under cars that I am working on. It sucks to lay on your side under a car when you're IWB carrying a larger pistol .I'd rather carry something larger but the convenience and ease of concealment in all types of situations is why I usually carry a pocket pistol.

I don't really know how loud the .22 Mag is.

In my younger dumber days I shot mine frequently without any hearing protection in,I can tell you it is extremely loud. It's brutal, think 357 with a 6" barrel.

On topic,
Now days I pretty much exclusively pocket carry a KAHR PM45. I never forget its there but I love it. I do sometimes still carry the NAA.

I sometimes carry a P3AT in my pocket, but I would actually rather have a P32 -- easier to shoot and one extra round.

My usual carry gun is a Security Six with .38 Special +P's, but the mousegun is a lot easier to conceal if I'm wearing shorts, or slacks with thin belt loops.

I will soon

In about 6 months to a year I'll be able to carry. Anyone want to guess which state I live in? When the time comes I'll pocket carry a .380 100% of the time in the summer months. During the winter I'll probably carry something duty sized.
