I was thinking about it and it occurred to me that many tools have an alternate use or can be substitute by other tools.
If you need a Philip's head you can often make do with a smalled slotted screwdriver.
Have I used a knife as a pry bar? Yes. (Sorry Hso.)
If I need a rough measurement, I've used my arm span (6' on the money) or my hand span (9" on the money).
But if you're in the situation where you need a gun, there really isn't any other substitute for it. The gun is the only tool of its kind, nothing else can even come close to what it can do as far as power vs. portability (for those of you who are going to argue that a bow and arrow can also send objects flying).
So if anyone asks why you NEED a gun, the simple answer is, "Nothing else does the same thing."
