Will cheap .22lr ever come back?

I'm not sure if I care if the prices come down or not. I have decided to not to get involved with the hoarders and crazy prices. I cleaned my K-22 up and put it in the box. I have a couple of hundred rounds put away to shoot in my 22 rifle some day and that is it. I have just been shooting the heck out of my Springfield Range officer.
the other day Cabela's had a couple of bricks of German 22 target ammo for $93 a brick and I had never heard of the brand before. the guy I know that works there said they would be gone by the end of the day and he was right. the price may be right for the ammo but this stuff would normally stay on the shelf for just about anybody except the dedicated target shooter.

Well if .22 ammo does come back in mass quantity and pricing much like it use to be before all the panic buying/hoarding, then you might want to stock up on it while it's available. That's what I did every time I went to a gun shop, gunshow, Walmart, or a sporting goods store. I didn't try to clear off the shelves either; just a couple of boxes or maybe a bulk pack if it was a decent price (like at Walmart), or on sale at the other places.

I do not feel prices for 22lr will return to pre-panic levels. The manufacturers have discovered that folks will pay higher prices and folks are starting to get used to higher prices.
The prices will ease back to some level that the manufacturers feel are sustainable and they will not go any lower.
But, that assumes no incremental increase in capacity. If the panic buying continues, more capacity will be added to cash in on the high prices. Once the demand subsides, the manufacturers will lower prices to keep their investments operating.

I ask the same question as my daughters shoot up my .223 reloads. Funny that those are cheaper now.

Reasonably priced .22 ammo will be back for sure. Anything now will cost more than a year or two ago due to inflation but when the panic buyers are full up the ammo will be on the shelves again. I also slowly purchased two boxes and shot one over the years. At this point I have two almost full 50 CAL ammo cans of loose .22 ammo. One of WIN plated HP and one of Federal plated HP. Also a few K of CCI of various flavors. When this blows over I recommend slowly stocking up when funds allow as a hedge for another run that WILL someday happen.

I would like to see good inexpensive come back (not necessarily cheap .22)
I hope Remington has been replacing its worn out equipment and the .22 Remington Golden I remember from 1960s comes back. And I would be willing to pay a bit more than I paid for the crappy bulk pack Remington Golden (I would pay 1960s price adjusted for inflation).
I have traded to my son my Winchester SuperX that runs fine in his Colt M4 for some of his Remington that won't run in it but will feed in my .22s (Colt M4 Walther-made European chamber is on the tight side).

The prices haven't went up at a lot of the major retailers like Wally World and Academy. When they get them in, they're the same price as before, so yes it will return to normal. Our Wally World had them the other day for $22.99/550. True they didn't have very many and they sold out fast, but the prices haven't changed. When the quantities come back, and it will, I don't see much difference in price. If the shelves are full and the big box stores are selling it for $22-$25/550, the others stores will have no choice.

Gander Mountain had an ad start this past Sunday. They had Federal 510 {same as Walmart Federal Lightning} on sale for 1.99. $20/brick.

One is the production of AR platforms for .22lr and conversion kits for our other non 22lr firearms. The other is the surge of new shooters that have come into the shooting sports.
Granted its been rough these last 10-11 months but according to a Forbes article the number of gun owners in America has now passed the 100,000.000 mark.

10 cents a round would be $55 for a 550 pack. I was at a gun show this past weekend and they were selling for less than that. And that's a gun show. Wally World still sells them for $22.99/550 here. Its just a matter of supply catching back up and it eventually will.
It will come back down to close to what it was selling for this time last year. Wholesale prices are not much higher than they were before from most sources, and as demand eases supply will catch up. The only reason prices are as high as they are is because people are willing to pay it.

Probably not,I think the days of cheap promo type plinker 22RF are long over. No more .80-.99 cent a box blaster ammo. Everything has gone up 2-4 times in cost. I pay the same for air gun pellets now what I paid for cheap .22RF. Cheap 22RF was like 18-20 bucks a brick last I saw some,I noticed at Wally World even the cheap promo shotgun ammo went up $6 bucks per 100($28 now).

Just this weekend I was able to pick up a couple bricks for $0.043 per round. That isn't as good as what my big stash was bought for years ago, but was good enough for me to get a few replacement boxes of CCI SV. It's coming back, just a matter of time.
Of course it will, but the question should be what price will cheap 22lr settle on.
