Would you trust your life with a 380.

In this case a 380 "worked"

But......

This BG is shot FOUR times in the chest from a 380, and was still talking with the CCW and is alive and well today.

So...... WHAT IF..... the BG was a little more determined???

While the 4 rounds were being fired, one or both of the victims could have been shot and/ or killed.

In my opinion the chances for the BG to stay in the fight longer... maybe MUCH longer...... is larger, the smaller caliber used

This extra time could be fatal to you.

Sure
1) Its better than a stick
2) "I wouldnt want to get shot with one"
(Is there a more worthless arguement? I dont want to get shot with a BB gun, but would never carry one)
3) a 380 on you is better than a 45 at home
4) Shot placement is most important
5) A 45 isnt a deathray

However......the bigger the bullet, the more damage a person would incur

Same hit, same center mass, a 45 cal will perform better than a 40 cal, better than a 9mm, better than a 38, better than a 380.

Those folks that think a 380 wounds like a 45 should read some more.

A 380 "can" work....... but.......be honest.... if you had but ONE shot
on a BG to get him out of the fight. Which would you choose.... really

For POLICE, 3.5 rounds fired on average. I highly doubt a civilian fires that much in these same cases
would you REALLY choose a 380 over a 45 when you only get 1 ot 2 shots?

For me, I want a round that puts the biggest hole in a BG

I may not get a chance for a second shot

The rifles are at home...... the 45 is on the hip.

I have CCWed a 9MM before and would only trust a high quality round like an
HST or Corbon DPX.

Not a 45, but significantly better than a 380

I wouldn't have it as my main OC piece. I would keep a 380 ACP pocket pistol concealed as a backup weapon in case if my main gun got taken away or was otherwise an invalid measure.

The doctor on here, John Galt (if he truly is a doctor or one in training, I will assume he is)

I am. In fact yesterday got called one of the older doc's. OUCH! The gray is here to stay.

Ok here is the really funny part. I prefer whenever I can to carry a 9mm or larger. When I can, I carry a EMP in .40 or a CCO sized 1911 .45. (Meaning I agree in theory with guys I am criticizing for trying to back there opinioons with medical antecdotes.) More often a small single stack 9 (LC9 or soon a DB9). In a pocket is a .380. Prefer to carry something else but many times is all I can carry. When you intereact that close with that many people everyday all day long it is too easy to get made. Pts and staff would freak out. But like I said everyone should carry what they prefer. Caliber wars are silly - I think. No one wants to get shot reguardless of caliber. I posted mostly in objection to the idea that there is any medical validity to one caliber over another.

Caliber wars especially around the .380 are silly-and as I said before I trust my KahrP380 because it is reliable and extremely accurate. It has proved itselfat the range at 10 yards allrounds in the center black target so where I point that's where the rounds will impact. I am confident that I could acquire a head/face shot with this pistol with no problem and it will incapacitate.
I want to add one more thing: the percentage of anyone ever drawing a firearm for self defense is practically zero regardless of the caliber. I think there is an emphasisof anticipation that one will be attacked thus one has to be armed 24/7.
I don't subscribe to that thinking even though I have a CPL. Many times I don't carry due to my job; that's a huge amount of time. Situational awareness and avoiding places that are potential problems is another. Add living in a safe area. I think one has to weigh the overall situation locally/nationally and globally - are we at a point in which we have to be armed because of an imminent threat be it gangs roaming the streets in search of food? We are not.
So this entrenched thinking that one has to carry a .45 24/7 everywhere is something I cannot subscibe to. That person is most likely to recycle their ammo at the range 20 times in the course of the year supporting the fact that the percentage of being attacked is extremely low. Most CPL carriers will never draw their weapons ever in self defense.

This guy^^^ lol. That's a sheep's mentality. You living in a "safe neighborhood" doesn't mean bad things can't/won't happen. That one day your like ,"nah I'm not gonna carry today" is the day you go to get milk at the local 7-11 and it gets robbed and the bad guy who "wasn't supposed to exist in your neighborhood" suddenly in your "safe town". You should actually tell him he shouldn't be there while hes robbing the place.

One day i drove to a local beer store with a buddy of mine only to find a bunch of cops out front. We were told the store was closed by an officer. I went to another beer store and picked up a 6er. Went home to find out the first store was robbed at gun point. Now that night my buddy and I were being a bit indecisive in where to go to get said beer so that indecisiveness saved me from being a victim of armed robbery especially since i decided not to carry my FNX9. I also fell i live in a pretty safe area, but to think I'm immune to crime would just be asinine. So i carry something to defend myself at all times now. Even if its just a knife.

I think the round is pretty important too. I carry a .380 LCP about half the time - when it is not realistic to carry my 9mm. I use the Hornady Critical Defense rounds in both the 380 and 9. Never had a feed problem and consistent spread with the Hornady CD rounds. I think one or two well-placed shots center mass would stop someone - with either the 380 or 9.

i carry a tcp 380 because my day to day wardrobe wont allow for my m&p .40.. but whenever i wear a jacket i have a under the arm shoulder style holster i use for my .40 and have my tcp in my pocket along with a knife.. i feel anything is better then nothing but 380 is the absolute lowest caliber i feel safe with and will continue to carry it until the make a 9mm or bigger caliber in a smaller gun for a reasonable price.

I have in the past and would again. If I knew trouble was comming I'd carry the biggest and baddest piece of artillery that my truck could haul. If it was all that I had I'd carry a pellet pistol or a sharp stick.

There are times I do.

I'll carry my KelTec P3AT when I can't conceal anything bigger. And it never worries me at all. But then, I'm not a likely target working in a high risk environment.

I certainly wouldn't feel helpless with one, if that's what you mean.

If I had my CHOICE, I wouldn't use one. Heck, my backup gun is a full 9x19mm Luger, but I accept the possibility that I'll be in a situation where I won't have my choice in weapon.
