Your Favorite / Least Favorite Handguns & Your Reasons

It is hard to pick a favorite when you have more than one, and it is probably not wise to talk about what you do have since we don't know who will be reading these posts. My present favorite and daily carry is a 386PD S&W with a 2.5" barrel, however I have single action Ruger that is high up on my list of favorites. My least favorite was a Ultra lite Taurus Judge that I just got rid of, it was what I consider a totally worthless gun, in the same class as a Hi Point or Mini 14.

My fav current gun is my XD9 Sub Compact, its now my
daily carry and has been 100% perfect.

Its on top because of its versatility as carry and home defense gun,
and also is fun to shoot at the range.

14 rounds in carry duty and 17 rounds on the nightstand.

Least fav was the kel tec pf9, an utter piece of garbage that out of
100 rounds only 1 mag was without malfunction.:fire:

I sold it so cheap I practically threw it away.

Jimmy

My favorite revolver is my Dan Wesson 715, 6" VH barrel with custom sights. A close runner up is the S&W 28 I wish I had never sold.

Least favorite revolver was my first gun, a Taurus 83, a total POS.

Favorite Semiauto is the Baby Eagle/Jericho fullsized. Any other CZ or CZ clone is great too.

Least favorite semi is any 1911 based gun. They look nice, but I haven't seen many I would trust with my life.

Favorites= S&W magnum revolvers 586,686,29,28 ect. Rugged, reliable, with big power.
H&K USPc pistols for the reliability, ergonomics, and accuracy.
Good 1911s due to the fact they are the most fun and accurate pistols for me.
Least favorite=anything in .380 I have yet to see one that does not jam and I just do not like the cartridge.

Favorite / Least - Handguns

As promised, here are some of mine (just a few - not finished). Some Favs- Single Action Rugers (RF & CF), most S&W's, 1911's, Military HG's, some Colt's. Least - Double Action Rugers , Potmetal junk, any that jams or otherwise malfunctions. Some I like but never owned- SIG P210, SIG-Sauer, CZ-75. More later.:)

My favorite is a Custom built Colt Bisley by David Chicoine of www.oldwestgunsmith.com My second is a Colt Police Positive Special. Both of these guns sport pre-ban elephant ivory grips by Jerry Meacham. My most carried would be either my NAA Black Widow or Model 649 first year production gun.

Least favorite... modern polymer specimens, they lack character.:neener:

My least favorite is pretty easy...
I had a SW9VE (an inexpensive S&W wonder9)
I couldn't hit the side of the barn from the inside.
So I sold it.

My favorite...
Hmm, I have lotsa favorites.
But I guess I'd have to say my S&W Model 10.
Ya, I know it's just a 38 Special, but it has character, still has 90+% of the bluing & is VERY accurate.

Runners-up include my Uberti SAA, a S&W Model 38, a Ruger GP-100(3" blue), a Colt Army Special 38 (dated 1915)
and about a 1,000 more LOL ;)

My favorite handgun is one that works.
Least favorite is one that doesn't work.

My favorite handgun that I currently own is my Ruger Single Six. The reason being, is that it's very handsome and fun to shoot. It takes a little while to load and unload, so you kinda relish each shot and spending a day with it is relaxing. My least favorite handgun I've owned was a Keltec PF-9 it didn't perform very good, I had to keep sending it back and the problems never got resolved.

Favorite: 4" stainless HB Ruger Security Six; accurate, tough, perfect size, and I know how to stage the trigger so that DA is as accurate as SA and faster.

Least favorite: Circa 1968 S&W Model 37; hard to shoot well, not tough enough for continuous range use, DA is a trial; BUT it's small, light, reliable and always there for me.

My personal favorite is a custom build on a Springfield frame done for me a by gunsmith in Colorado. I have research time and a lot of money invested in it and the 1911 platform is my overall favorite anyway.

My least favorite is Glock. They work well for a lot of people, but for me the grip angle is all wrong and the triggers are pretty bad, except for the short reset. And they're thick as a brick.

1911 vs. Glock

I'm with you ! Like 1911's (called 'em Colt .45 automatic's in my day). Don't like Glock, feels like plastic rock, and don't have time for them on my clock, at least on my block, & keep 'em under your lock, or under your frock, Mr. Spock ! This is called Glock hock !:D

several favorites

I have several favorites right now.
1. Is my SIG Sauer 225. It has the perfect combination of a smooth trigger, very good sights and a grip that seems made just for my hand. I find that I can hold it better than almost any other mid size auto.

2. Another favorite is a pre-war WALTHER PPK. It has proven every bit as good as its legend. The trigger is not great, nothing like the SIG, but is usable and the gun is very compact, but still controlable. It is a frequent carry gun.

3. Last is my little BERETTA Tomcat. It really is a miniture version of the larger
BERETTA pistols which are extremely reliable and easy to shoot, yet is barely larger than the .25ACP mini pistols. It is the gun that I carry the most frequently when off duty because it is so small to dissapear in my pocket, yet always fires and usually hits the target.

Those are the three that right now I like the most and shoot most often.

Jim

Least favorite.

American Derringer .357 mag
Probably has 40 rds through it since new. Was firing some .38 specials in it and after last trip to range, came home to clean it and found large score mark down top of top barrel... straight and not with the rifling. Wrote to AD and explained the problem to them, and let them know that the thing was out of warranty, just wanted to know if it could be repaired. Never even got a reply.

Favorite.
Tossup between Ruger Single Six .22 WMR and Ruger GP100 6" SS .357 mag.

My least favorite is my KT .32 not fun to shoot but will (hopefully get someone off your back in an emergency).I carry it when there is no other choice.
Love my S/S Blackhawk in .357--38sp and the Taurus 1911. Both shoot great.

Favorite - 4" S&W 19-3 that I bought new.
Close second - Springfield TRP in 45ACP.
Least favorite - Ruger 44 SBH. No IHMSA locally anymore and I use a TC Contender for deer hunting. The SBH just languishes at the bottom of the gun cabinet.

Current favorite - A tie, of course.

- S&W Model 14, mid 1970's (even like it better than my late '50's model 14)
- S&W model 36 three inch bbl., late 1960's.

- almost a tie is my Ruger SR9c. The perfect carry gun, IMO.

Current least favorite

- I sold a Tokarev in 9mm earlier this year. I shoulda got the 7.62 x 25 version. Least favorite of all time was probably a bad SAA colt. Mostly cause I paid a bunch for it. Had it been a good example, I would've loved it. Also once had a Single Six I didn't like.

The Book of Five Rings tells us to have no favorite weapon but to master as many as you can.

That said all around favorite would be the 1911 series pistols in .45ACP If I ever win a big lottery I would like to go hog wild on making one an everything gun with a .22 LR conversion kit, old .38-45 set up, .38 super, 9x19 (not sure how to deal with the ejector issue) and .40 S&W set ups, as many Springfield armory SASS units in as many different calibers as possible and shell shrinkers and a carbine conversion unit. What lower case survivalist could refuse such a dream?

In a 9 silly meter CZ 75

In a largish revolver S&W 27 (.357 is enough, thank you very much)

In a service revolver 4 inch S&W Model 15 or 19

In a little defensive revolver I actually like the Charter Arms under cover with bull dog round grips better than S&Ws.

Smallish auto shrunken 1911 clones like the Colt Mustang or Star S series

Single shot Merrill or who ever was making it when last seen.

Least favorite......Type 94 Imperial Japanese Army pistol

Of the handguns I have owned or own now;
Favorite tool: Glock 19
Favorite art: S&W 686
Least favorite: Rohm 22 revolver. POS disintegrated shooting 22 shorts.
Biggest Disappointment: Kimber Ultra. Wanted to love it but it wasn't worthy.

Movies?

Na, I was recently trying to get my son to read The Book of Five Rings and so was re skimming it myself.

When I was shooting action /plate stuff regularly I tired to never use the same gun twice in a row or more than one in three matches. Just more fun that way.

When I was in my 20s my buds and I always brought extra ammo out so we could each shoot one another's firearms a bit. Between three cerifiable gun nuts that liked different things, one got a lot of experience.

I actually turned down an offer of a free type 94 once.......

Now I understand. From one gun nut to another. But, as far as the 94, OK ....except if it's FREE.....well, I'd have to give it a try !:)

My favorite out of what I own would be either my sig p228 or my g19.
The least favorite I ever owned was a Taurus pt 709 slim.

Favorites:

Any of my 1911's. I like them the best, but cannot pick just one. Smith& Wesson N frame revolvers are a close 2nd.

Most trusted:

Any of my Glocks. I know you didn't include this category, but I had to include it. As much as I like the 1911's, I won't reach for one when something goes "bump" in the night.

Least Favorite:

Anything CZ

I've owned several. Most overrated gun on the internet. They tend to be accurate, but have crude workmanship, below average reliability, and poor triggers. Not a bad choice for a range gun after being worked over by a good gunsmith, but not what I'd ever consider for personal protection.
