Best at what? Best DAO, DA/SA or SA? Best Target 9mm? Best pocket carry, best duty pistol or Go To War pistol? Best value? Best quality? Best looking? Best for aftermarket add ons? Best for me? Best for who?

Not to digress but there is no BEST anything. If I like fishing for Bonefish then the best boat for me is a flats boat. If I like fishing for Tuna then a flats boat is a very poor choice. If I want to run the Everglades then a Deep V Center Console is a very poor choice. Get my drift?

I'll bite.

The best for me for EDC is the Khar CM9.

I'll chime in again later for my vote for the best nightstand & range 9mm.

The best 9mm is my Sig M11-A1. And I can prove it's the best because my Sig M11-A1 is the best 9mm that was ever built.
How's that for circular reasoning?:)
Seriously, my Sig M11-A1 is accurate, it's reliable, it handles well, and while it's not as concealable as a sub-compact of some kind, it's still do-able. Only thing is - it was kind of pricey.:)

I thought the original poster wanted to know which 9mm was excellent and was a real value in the sense of not being overpriced.

I like the Walther PPQ Match 9mm, but at 800 plus I would not say it is a value gun or that I felt like I got a steal when I bought mine for somewhat over 800.

Not sure which 9mm in excellent and also a great deal given the price. Maybe some people would say Canik?

Glocks are over priced, aren't a good value, and there are other firearm that are just as reliable for $100-$200 less, IMHO. The best value for a 9mm that is reliable, has a lot of aftermarket support, and a company that offers great customer service is the S&W M&P Shield at the moment.

Hi Point 916 , $149 dollars and lifetime warranty . It meets all your requirements , 9mm and value .
as good an answer as any.

personally, i do not think there is a "best" anything. there may be "best" pieces of gear that deal with a very specific situation but they probably are not "best" for other situations.

Keep in mind that "best" is a very subjective term. To many appearance or price denotes at least part of what "best" means. If that is what is important to the purchaser, than he got the "best" when he purchased a custom made gold plated pistol for 10,000 dollars. It might not shoot worth a darn, but for his purposes he got the "best".

Best is the enemy of good. What is best for one specific task might not work well for another.

Best duty gun? S&W 5906? We moved to polymer but consider what could have happened if S&W had done that. It would be the equal of most sold for duty.

SIG P320? Might be even better for it. No serial number hand grip unit makes it a contender for beating out the AR15 as a homebuilt gun. Expect it.

Pocket carry? SIG P938? What, you don't? Or maybe the Kahr CW9? Can't pocket carry a 5906, can you?

Best is a internet trollers choice of wording to gin up a lot of posts discussing something that is so vague there really is no consensus. I'm quite surprised we allow it.

Thanks for the input.....the thread is about boats?....I am a boat man!. I currently own a 17 ft Aquasport that I have rebuilt with new everything...also I built a "Grand Banks Dory" from plans. Cypress and white Oak!.... Dory Boat.JPG

What's the task the gun is used for? I wouldn't want to run an open type competition gun for concealed carry, and vice versa.

Having said that, it comes down to picking the gun that fits your hand and needs from any of the reputable manufacturers (i.e. Glock, Ruger, HK, Sig, Colt, S&W, CZ, Beretta, etc.).

I really started this thread looking for a different pistol than I have.....Browning Hi Power,Beretta 92 FS, 1908 Luger,1945 Walther,and several others....just trying to get a reason to buy another...Walther P5?.....CZ?.....Steyr?....???????.

Why tolerate it?...why answer ?

the best for me is a browning hipower. I love everything about it, and it was gifted to me, so the price was right, too.

I had a Star Modelo B that I liked quite a lot and really regret selling.

A sig 938 is the only 9mm luger on my wish list.....for now.

The Steyr S9-A1 is a very good handgun. I like the trapezoid sights a lot but prefer night sights on my carry guns. Excellent striker trigger.

You have some nice 9mm's now , so if you want different I would look at the CZ Shadow Target , if you want to spend some money , or a 9mm 1911 . I have a Pointman 9 , that makes a nice accurate range gun for about the same price range , $1400 . If you not looking to spend that much a SA Range Officer in 9mm .

If you want to be a first , wait on the new CZ P10c , CZ's first striker fire pistol . It's suppose to have a great trigger and reset . But you will be the field tester on a new pistol . It sounds like it is going to be less than $500 dollars .

You will not go wrong with the Walther PPQ or P5 , if you want it now .

The best value going for a CC pistol now is the Shield with the $75 dollar rebate . I have seen them for $240 after you figure in the rebate , you will still need to add the FFL to that . I like the PPS better , but for the cost you can't beat the Shield .
