A local store has this as the range kit with the carry bag and five magazines what do you think about this gun? $549

I personally think S&W hit a home run with the EZ.
My wife got one when they were first introduced and ditched her G19 as it was far easier for her to operate. (Arthritis).

My hands dont suffer any ailments yet, but have shot it multiple times and found absolutely nothing to complain about. That in itself says something as I dont typically like SWs M&P line.

I'm thinking the $549 might be a bit high but it comes with the range bag and 5 magazines

Support your local LGS. If you think the price is high, tell them and maybe they can come down a little. Last year (around June) my friend paid $500 OTD for a .380 EZ with 2 mags and a range bag.

I paid $373.63 (Tax included) in December 2018 If I recall correctly mags are around 35-40 dollar range.

So that is over 105-120 in mags. A bag? 10-50 depending on how nice or cheap.
So the price is close enough given the current situation. Even though the gun doesnt check any of the ban tick marks.

Course you already snoozed on the deal and its likely already gone.

^^^^^ This.

In stock @ local dealer = a decent deal.

Factor in today's market = imo, a good deal.

If I was in the market for it, I would have bought it on the spot given the current times.

I'm not sure if you're asking about the pistol itself, or the price.

I just bought one for my wife, and my mother (85) has the .380 version.

I went to break it in for her yesterday (she'd rather be shopping). At least it was a good excuse to get out of the house and hit the range. No problems with the 100 rounds I put through it, but recoil was a bit snappy - more than a Glock 48 in my opinion. I guess it's not unexpected due to the weight. And totally subjective, so your opinion may differ.

If past history is any indication, she won't like it because of the recoil. If that's the case I'll get her the .380.

She has trouble with the slide on everything I own, but can do okay with the EZ. I guess that's what counts.

I find the EZ9 easy to shoot and so does my wife. I got mine for $400 a few months ago. Now the going price for the gun alone seems to be $450. So with 3 extra mags $550 seems in line.

If you buy it check the serial #, to see if it's included in the recall.

Mine was. They replaced the hammer, took about 4 weeks for turnaround.

Considering the marketplace I would have bought it, no questions asked. Nowadays I just order what I want/need regardless of price. My bargaining days in this sport ended early last spring.

Your right, I waited too long. But he took my number will text me. Seems pretty certain he can get more by spring. To be honest after dropping $600+ for the Kimber and ammo i'm not sure i'm ready to spend another $600 for the S&W this soon. Spring works for me.btw he won't come down on the price says he can sell all he can get at that $
The range bag is the small one just holds one gun and 5 mags. The mags are the S&W EZ load with the slide button. You slide the spring down with one hand and put the rounds in with the other.not a bad idea imo.

Well I just found out about the recall glad I didn't buy it now I have no idea whether that gun he was selling was part of the recall or not I assume that if I wait until the spring what he gets back in stock will be okay?!

The recall was for a very specific period when S&W apparently had an issue with sub-contractor supplied hammers.

At my local LGS the gun sells for $485 in 9mm and $435 in 380 and they currently have them in stock. The price you quoted with five mags sounds like a good deal. Spare mags are hard to find.
I bought a 380 EZ as a teaching aid and find it to be a magnificent example of an easy to rack, disassemble and clean, and a reasonable size for carry or home use. I am really impressed with S&W's offering.
It does come with and without a thumb safety.

I kind of see the thumb safety is overkill since both models have the grip safety what is your feeling about that?

I rented a Shield 9 EZ at the range yesterday because CMC arthritis in the base of my thumb is forcing me to move away from my Glock 26, and I wanted to see if the EZ might forestall my journey down to .380. I found the slide easy to rack and the mag easy to load, but the recoil was hitting my thumb at least as hard as my Glock.

Another big issue, for me anyway, is that I'm not comfortable with a safety on a carry gun, but the trigger on the EZ was so short and so light, that I would be hesitant to carry one without a safety. It felt like a true SA trigger to me. I know people say that the grip safety makes up for that, but 1911s have a grip safety, and I've never seen anyone recommend carrying one in condition 0.

However, it was reliable and accurate, and shot well, if you don't have my hand issues. If I didn't have the arthritis and was a manual safety guy, it would be a good pistol. For the non-safety version, I guess that's a personal decision.

Good question. Being a 1911 fan my thumb is always riding the safety so I bought one in that configuration. In reality, if I had it to do over I may have gone the other way. It is a redundant feature. If there is any potential for someone else to get their hands on the gun it may give you time to intervene and disarm but I always think worst case when it comes to guns.
Truth be told, it comes down to what is available and either is a good choice.

In 9mm they are $549 in Dunham's and only come with one magazine. Spare magazines when you can find them in stock are $40 to $50 each. You should have jumped on it.

Story of my life I had a chance to go to the original Woodstock but wouldn't go because I didn't want to give up my crappy job

I got it! I missed out on it with a local dealer but when I bought the Kimber I signed up on the email list of Cabelas .I got an email from from them this afternoon that they had the kit for the same price $549. They had the one with the thumb safety but I got the gun five clips and the range bag Unfortunately they had no ammo to sell me. But I still have a box I got with the Kimber so I will go on to those online sites you guys recommended and see who's got 9 mm at a halfway sane price.
Is there any of that online stuff I should watch out for avoid?

Well done.
A year ago I would have advised against Russian Steel and a few others. Now-take what you can find. I would still avoid a purchase from Cheaper Than Dirt.

Congrats! If you are interested there are devices on eBay that make loading even easier. They are like a collar that goes around the mag, you push that down instead of the two tabs on the mag.
