2009 New Years Eve Rimfire Match

When we shot last week we played with the target for this contest as well as a few others. We had a lot of fun with the target I am attaching here. We called it a bulls-eye if you completely took out the dot and gave it 4 points. The small circle was 2 points and the large circle was 1 point. To get credit the hole had to be completely in (meaning you got 1 point unless the hole was completely inside the smaller circle - no greater than 50% stuff). It was very easy to add up the points and was a little more fun that the targets we are using for this contest. Not meaning to say I am not having fun, just adding my $.02 as a very novice shooter who is starting to play with a lot of different types of targets. We only used the top half of this target (the 20 circles). You might want to try it and see what you guys think. We have found that it is little easier to see where you hit on the white targets on our indoor range. Not sure if it is the same outdoors (where we usually shoot at the fancy .22LR metal spinning targets).

Next Month's Targets:

I like it...but we will have to use something bigger for irons, and someone else posted a small target (for optics) first. Mind if we use it the following month (February) instead?

I have found a couple targets for non-magnified sights that may work...which one do you guys like?

You are welcome to use it any time you like. I was just putting it out there as a fun target to shoot and easy to score - not necessarily something that I was asking to use for this contest. It has been the best one for the scope that we have found so far. I stole it off rimfirecentral along with a lot of other targets (they have quite a few that may work for iron sites). We are probably going to try this poolball target tomorrow and see how it works. I think simplicity was the main thing that has determined which ones we thought were fun. No question about when a shot was in like you get one some of the smaller targets. I'm not sure how something like that works on a contest with a lot of people but in our weekly "loser pays for lunch" it works great.

Edit: In the end, I'll probably make my own target for our lunch contest. Probably something close to the 20 circles on that target but a little larger.

I didn't read the rules on this match till after I went to the range. Don't know when I'll be able to get back, so I'll just post what I did.

Both targets were shot with a 22LR AR (22LR CMMG upper, 5.56 Rock River lower) at 50 yards using iron sights. The one on the left was shot from a table using sandbags for support, one on the right was shot from the prone unsupported. I think I fired 30 rounds at both, minus malfunctions. There was a good number of malfunctions too, I was trying Remington Gold Dot 22LR for the first time and that CMMG upper just didn't seem to like that brand. So each target may have only had 20 to 25 rounds fired into them.

No problem, happygeek, I can't really score it, but nevertheless am glad to see people out and shooting in the frozen tundra. :D

Make sure and stay tuned for this month's match, which will begin on Friday (due to the extension for this match).

:)

I'm going to try and get back out there this coming weekend, and I invited a co-worker who wants to go with me. So I'll put up some smaller bullseye targets I got at Walmart. I think that the shortest I can shoot at that range is 25 yards though.

Hopefully more targets to come soon!

Seems like I can't get short enough...or far enough away for everyone. May have to do one match at 50ft for irons and 50yds for optics...that *might* be somewhat agreeable. dunno.gif

well I was hoping to get a target submitted, but I'm not healing from my shoulder surgery fast enough to get to the range. So hopefully next time around.
