This one is open to any and EVERY 22 caliber (and 17 caliber) rimfire rifle including 22 Mag and 17HMR. This match is meant to be challenging and FUN. Hopefully it will get you out to the range and shooting your rifle.

You may enter with multiple rifles.

There is Two Optics Divisions:
->50 feet for iron sights and non-magnified optics and red dots
->50 feet for any Scope or Magnified sighting device.
Please note the change in distance. This change is to ensure that everyone that wants to participate, and has access to an indoor/outdoor range of at least 50' in length, is afforded the opportunity.

There are Three Rifle Classes:
->Unlimited/Target Rifles (highly modified rifles, rests, target sights, high magnification optics [in the appropriate division] may be used, all .17cal rifles should be classified as "Unlimited Target")
->Limited Class Target Rifles (defined as .22cal ONLY target rifles that are not complete custom target rifles, custom accessories, high magnification optics, and custom modifications are permitted)
->Sporting Rifles (Includes All Non-Target Class Autoloaders, Bolt Actions, Single Shots, Pumps, & Lever Rifles)

Both Target Classes can be shot from any position, Sporting Class is shot from any unsupported position. When you are satisfied you've done your best post, or PM me a photo of your target to me for scoring with the following information. The Targets Are Linked Below...

50' Non-Magnified Target: 1 shot per star. Scored as 1pt. for any shot that is on the border of the star, and 2pts. for any hit completely inside the star.

50' Magnified Target: 1 shot per target. Scored as 1pt. for each ring, increasing by one each additional ring, the bulls is worth an additional 5pts. for a possible total of 10pts. per individual target.

All submissions due by the end of the day on New Years Eve, 2009, at which time you should resolve to go shooting more (If participation is low, we can decide to extend the match as necessary). :D

Shoot straight and more importantly...Have fun!

Wooooooooooooooooooooooohoooooooooooooooooooo! Might actually get to participate in this one.

Terrific! Looking forward to getting out in the next few weeks. Out of town this weekend, but probably the following.

Looking like the Unlimited class, as my eyes aren't what they used to be and the front sight blots out the target at 50 yards!! LOL!

EDIT - oh wow!! We're talking 50 FEET!!!

Yep, wanted to make sure EVERYONE could participate. Figured I'd go with an easier target for irons because I didn't want to shorten the distance any more than I already had, and two folks were nice enough to send me targets to use. Also if your eyesight is like mine, you may have better luck choosing the appropriate peep for your rifle (ghost ring for short range, standard aperture for medium range, and vernier tang sight were applicable/possible for long range).

Thanks for joining in.

:)

Maverick:

Much obliged for the 50' contest. Just what I asked for. Now if I can get a day that's above 45 degrees...

By the way, I was going to suggest the UK Rimfire Benchrest 30-bull target. The association no longer has the target on its web site as a down load, but I have a PDF of it if you think it would work.

I like it at 50'.

Sounds like fun! Maybe a stupid question, but can you define 'unsupported' for me? I assume a prone position without a bipod is acceptable. Bipod would be supported? Is scanning the target the best way to submit it? Thanks!

You are very welcome, hope you enjoy the match.

I'd rather keep the original targets that are linked above, just in case someone has already been out to the range; but if you can find a copy send it to me and we can use it next month.

:)

Not stupid at all, no bags, rests, bipods, shooting sticks, or fence posts are allowed. The prone position (as well as all others) are fine. Elbows are permitted and the use of slings is encouraged.

Most folks just take a photo, but scanning would be just as good. If a scanner or camera is unavailable (or if you would rather) you can mail it to me (PM for address). Glad to have you on board, Gregaw.

:)

Maverick:

Yeah, I meant the UK targets for another month. Where do I look for instructions on how to attach a PDF to a post, or can I e-mail it to you if you have a safe e-mail that you can put up here? Or, any other way to do it?

Maverick:

BTW; The NRA B-17 is a good target. I use it a lot. It's also nifty out to 50 yards if you like scopes.

All you need to do is go to Quick Reply at the bottom, click "Go Advanced" and look for the paperclip icon at the top, it allows you to attach several types of documents/photos, including PDFs; you can do the same for PMs. If you have trouble with it, send me a PM and I will send you my E-mail address.

UK Benchrest Target

I think it's attached. Thanks for the instruction.

Mav,

With you on peeps. Have them on a 39A and a few others. Like them a lot. Still a damn struggle, but eyes getting fuzzy is part of the game. Thanks goodness for scopes!

Pistols another story. Been playing around with point-shooting. Okay results, but do miss the days when I could keep them all in the black shooting bullseye. Thought about selling them, but figure I can still see well enough to fondle 'em!:D

Peeps seem to work great for astigmatism. My eyes are actually slightly improving, but my poor eyesight is a result of an accident rather than natural deterioration. Several years ago I got a strong alkaline (battery acid) in my eyes, which as you can imagine caused a great deal of damage (went from 20-15 to about 20-35 IIRC). Over the past few years I have seen a little improvement, and hopefully that will continue.

:)

Hey, Maverick, what are you considering a "complete custom target rifle"? I've got a gun that I don't consider custom at all, but others may consider it as such.

Something Olympic class, not a 10/22 with Volquartsen parts or any production rifle (all .17cal rifles fall into the Unlimited Class). If it came complete as a custom match grade rifle it will fall into this category.

:)

I'm going to the range Thursday. :) I'll try iron sights on a Remington Model 550-1 that I got for free a few weeks ago... have not even shot it yet, and have no clue how it shoots, but I was told it shoots great... we'll see I guess. :)

Well... too much wind this past weekend, and during the time I had to spend, we called in coyotes instead. Well... much to our chagrin an 8pt responded to our jackrabbit in distress calls,a nd walked nearly 20ft beside us. Awesome day.

Will try and get some shooting in this weekend, but Sat. is pig time. Keep up the good shooting folks.

OK, if I understand the rules, here’s an entry for the Limited Class.

Parameters:

50 feet, indoors, supported
22 LR, CZ 452, Weaver 3-9 x 32 A/O scope
Winchester DynaPoint 22 LR ammo

One of the targets is a very close call, and I’m happy to leave it up to Mav. I used “On Target” for that one target to help delineate the bullet diameter. And I’ve posted a “close up”, and hopefully you can zoom in on that more. To me it looks like I nicked the bullseye ring, but I didn’t completely cut it. I don’t know formal target scoring rules, but I’m sure Mav or someone else does.
