30-30 ammo recent prices?

For those of us who reload and where bright enough to stock components, it is a non issue.
That goes without saying, regardless of cartridge.
I have enough factory 30-30 and components to be able to hunt for the rest of my life, I do like to shoot my guns recreationally though and so availability of factory ammo and components does matter. This isn't me griping about prices/availability , just an observation that 30-30 is disproportionately higher in price and less available than many other cartridges .

Would like to know how that bullet will perform on deer.
That Lee mould is a clone of the old Ideal/Lyman #311041. It was specifically designed for the .30-30 over 100 years ago.
It's relatively heavy for the cartridge, my Lyman 2 cavity throws it at ~183gr. The flat ogive gives it a wallop, and the weight gives it penetration. No need to run it at 2000+ fps, it works fine at 1600-1800.
That bullet has been performing admirably for decades.

I saw 2 boxes of it at wally world a few weeks back. Aside from some oddball stuff, that was the only ammo in the store.

I have 140 rounds of 30-30 a friend gave me last year, problem is I do not own a rifle/carbine in 30-30. When I informed him of this, he said he thought it was 30-06. I guess I either need to sell/trade it, or find me a 30-30 to shoot it out of.

I don't think a person has to look any farther than some of the new "tactical" lever guns hitting the market. People are learning that even levers can double as home defense, and in the event semi-autos are legislated into oblivion, papaw's old Winchester is a better option for putting rounds down the hallway quickly than their bolt rifle.

In that regard, I can't argue with the logic, especially when logic in general is skewed by the panic buying.

Better yet, sell half of it right now and put the money away, when things come back to reality buy a 30-30 with it and use the remaining ammunition.

Interesting . What powder do you use for those speeds and do you know how they do in microgrove barrels

I found a really good deal on a large amount of powder that is useful to load everything from 45/70 to .223 just before the crunch hit ,I also bought a .405 gr. Hb .460 mold and a 30/30 mold and last summer a club member divested 6 boxes of 30/ 06 to whoever wanted it for free mostly corelok ,nobody else thought much of it ,I said thanks after waiting through the meeting!not as .22 lr rich as I would like but not poor either, these were just lucky grabs,in the right place at the right time.Bright or lucky not sure which but at least I can shoot.

Lee c309-170f, 18gr IMR 4198.
1512 fps, SD 24, ES 73 fps
8 shots into 1.25" at 50 yds with a Rem 788 and a 4x scope.

This wasn't a cherry picked group, but my first effort at finding something to shoot. I haven't yet gotten back to it.

Jmorris glad the brass helped kill a couple of the hogs. We could feed everyone in the U.S. if we could kill all them suckers. They are going to destroy the mountains here in Tennessee if they don't get them under control. Wife came home about a week ago and one ran under hill where we park the cars, she said it was as big as a small to medium bear.

whats LGS?
Don't feel bad bottomlands, I too get tired of the abbreviations, sort of like the icons on car dashes, just spell it out, because sometimes it is easier. I have asked these questions also. My saying is if you don't know ask it, the only dumb question is one you know the answer and ask it anyways.

Paid 32 out the door for a box of Hornady Leverevolution .35 rem
No 30-30 to be had locally.

Fine with it, since I prefer .35 rem in a slide ;)

Hunting ammo is popping up now and then. LGS had some .308 Federal yesterday.
Some .223 in varmint and FMJ as well.

Zero 9mm,.45 acp or .22 lr. No .357 or .44 mag either.

Hey all,
Seen it mentioned a few times but no thread directly addressing this.
All ammo prices are high right now as we all know, 30-30 seems to be especially high and in great demand. I can understand that there are a lot of deer rifles that may be the only gun someone has and they want some cartridges . it seems like the old traditional cartridges would be somewhat less affected but I'm seeing gunbroker prices of well over $100 for a box of 20 and there are bids on it. Seems the 30-30 ammo prices exceed many others that I would think would be more in demand.

What's going on with that?
You know, I've not really paid attention to the run on ammo, because Ive got enough. Fine.
But you read stuff like this, 30-30 @ $5/rd, 9mm @ $1+, .22lr and all the rest selling for super astronomical prices right now... and you realize that you're basically sitting on a small fortune. Heck you could keep enough for yourself to be comfortable and still offload a ton of stockpiled ammo.
Question is - Is it wrong to sell your existing ammo supply at these insane prices? Or even a few extra firearms that fit the bill? Is it price gouging??
