642 Club Part Three

Request permission to join the club, please. Picked up a new 642 a week ago today.

I basically wanted something that would be very close to the full hammered, all steel .38 snub I have carried for years and want to semi-retire. I also wanted something that was lighter and more pocketable, yet just as reliable.


This is perfect. Only shot a cylinder's worth through it, but it appears that all is well. I put a little bit of black electrical tape over the last half inch of the butt to "personalize" it and help cover the exposed gray-colored back strap and bottom. I actually like the look of the 442 better, and very nearly got that instead. Anyway, happy camper here and now my very first gun can get a much-needed break.

Didn't actually carry a true J before-hand. I have a Taurus 85, made in 1994 according to the Taurus website.


I will still use the Taurus at the range and even for the occasional bit of carry. I think the 642 will be a very worthy replacement, as would any of the other true Js. Used to think Bodyguard (humpback) frames were ugly, but they've actually grown on me over time. Been meaning to get an Airweight of some sort or something similar for a long time. Finally did it...
 
I may as well beg in as well, just snagged a no lock specimen. I kept my Uncle Mikes combat grip knowing I'd be back sooner than later.

Thank you! Yeah, the old Taurus has performed flawlessly, and has rode with me for many a mile. After 20 years of service, I have decided that it has too much sentimental value to me for regular EDC.

So that's why I'm just now getting the 642. Only took me almost 9 years and about 419 pages across all three "642 Club" threads... but better late than never! :)

After many years of trying every option and caliber known to modern man, I have been carrying 642's almost exclusively for the past year or so.

Just such a great machine. Weight, recoil, natural point ability.

Really dig VZ grips on them as well.

Well, I am once again, not the owner of a 642. My love is the K Frame revolver, and I found a great 3" Model 10, so I traded my 642. The good news is that I'll be getting a Pro Series for my next one.
 
OK, sign me up to the club. Ran up on a 642, guy had had it almost a year, fired a couple of cylinders through it, said $300 and it's yours. Paid a little more than I would have liked, and it's got a lock, but I guess nothing is perfect, and I've been jonesing for one of these things for a few months. Looks new, clean as a whistle, he still had the box, receipt, everything. It's lying on the bar in the kitchen, I guess I'm gonna go out and shoot some of this cheap ammo I've got lying around. If I like this thing as much as I think I'm going to it may hang around a while.
 
Shot five cylinders through it, sweet. I had a tendency to shoot high at first, but it didn't take long to get that under control. All things considered (nothing carries like a snubby IMO) this is a keeper.
 
after 3 yrs, im back again. my buddy has a college freshman going to TCU. i helped him out with his 442. (undisclosed $). anybody have the ergo sure grip on their gun? if so how do you like it? I haven't shot it yet. But it sure rides great in my left front pocket as I type this.

I was able to run 50 rounds thru her with the ergo grip today. Hated it. Felt like the gun would fall off my hand. Shooters fault not the gun. Here she is in her original boot. Happy labor day Y'all!

I posted in the main revolver section, but got no hits. Has anyone tried the LaserMax Centerfire for the 642?
 
LaserMax for Ruger snubs-not an answer really

I have 2 LaserMax set ups -one on my Ruger 357 LCR and one on my .22 LCR while I await getting a 9mm LCR. Very nice set up. I also obtained a nice custom OWB belt holster for this rig. The lasers work great , and can be mounted and dismounted very easily but remain secure. This IMHO is a great system. Turn it on and turn it off. I have not seen reports of LM's on the S&W's.
I also have 2 CT grip lasers for my Smiths and interchange them a bit. I do not like these as much as the gun (not grip) mounted LaserMax set ups. Reason is the limitations on the grips-no function problems.
I really like my Rugers. I like my Smiths too but have moved to carrying the 357 Ruger. Take your pick.
 
Would like to become a member of the 642 Club.

I've got a 642, carry it in either a DeSantis Nemesis or a Masters OWB. As Camjr mentioned in an earlier post, he's fallen in love with the Masters. For a moderately priced snubby holster it can't be beat. Holds the snubby tight against the body and disappears under most any garment, even a loose t-shirt.

I'm currently trying out a set of Ergo grips. Takes some getting used to, so the jury's still out.

For years as an LEO I carried a Model 36 Chief's Special. Sure, it was steel and somewhat heavy, but I don't think it shot any better DOA than the 642, which is much lighter and much easier to carry.
 
I had to buy my wife a 642 this past weekend, they had one at the LGS with factory CT grips and she just had to have it,,,, so no complaints from me ,, she loves it , I live it , life is good........:evil:

P.S could I gain membership to this highly exclusive club,,,,, please,,,,:D:evil::D,,,,

Question: Apparently the 442 is the same as a 642, except one is stainless and the other is blue. So, does it make any difference in terms of membership in the 642 Club if I trade my 642 for a 442 (or am I automatically kicked out of the Club - in which case is there a 442 Club?).
 
My 642 has arrived at my FFL today, and I pick it up Friday. Already have the holster (for front pocket carry) and the speed strips. I have carried a Walther PP, and then a Bersa Thunder until this Friday! It just struck me that this is the first new handgun I have bought since my Model 19-4 in 1977.
 
Picked up the (new) 442 today. Obviously the same gun as the 642, just a different color. It doesn't look at all like a blued steel gun with its shiny polish, rather the 442 is a flat matte black that, oddly, makes it appear smaller than the stainless 642. Of course it's not. On further examination, and in a different light, the barrel and cylinder being steel have a bit more luster than the frame, which is absolutely flat, absorbs light rather than reflects it. Looks uber stealth.

Merely a few observations.
