Awesome bag for day tripping. It is a one shoulder strap design so it can be rotated to the front for fast access of important items w/o taking it off.

It has more pockets than a mutunt kangaroo.

I have a couple items that I have added hanging off from it just so I can find things quickly. NiteIze black case with a multi-tool and flash light, that can be removed and go on my belt, and a flat velcro general purpose for smart phone or camera.

I barely leave home without it, 2 space blankets, energy bars, first aid kit, packable rain jacket and pants, fire starter, water filter straws, stainless or Nalgene water bottle, para cord, mags etc you know the drill, the standard zombie apocalypse bug out real quick bag.

DA - Whoa; you must live in an area in flux. The only things I don't leave home without are my 4044 (or 642), glasses, wallet, car keys, pocket knife (2), nail clippers, FOX OC, cell phone, and a comb (have to look good you know).

That's a real nice Maxpedition bag, DA. I've looked at a bunch and even owned one once -
I forget which - not that one - but it didn't work for me: way too small.

Just to keep this on topic though, and not too far down the BOB road, the Maxpeditions are ideal for CC.
That single strap that allows quick access to the carry pocket is nicely thought out.

Still, I suspect that one would be too small for me, also, even for my EDC. I don't own a car/truck, but walk or bike everywhere (yeah, sometimes the bus). So when I leave home, for the afternoon or the day, I carry a LOT of gear. (I know myself enough to know that I may just decide to head off to the woods for the afternoon, and want to stay until after dark to watch a moon rise, so.... Much of the same stuff that you listed, but more, including at least one full meal. And importantly, I usually carry one more layer of fleece than I think I'll need, but want to have room in the pack for another layer should I need to take one off. (Here in upper New England especially, the temps can drop quickly by 25F as night comes on.)

Also for me, even though I totally love the idea of a single strap, it just doesn't carry the weight I need/want to carry. I need two shoulder straps. But much more importantly for me, I want a good, weight-bearing waist belt. I don't want to carry weight on my shoulders.

Here is my EDC bag. It'll carry up to 30 lb, though mine is usually more in the 20 lb range.

I am woefully under equiped in this discussion as my everyday carry capability is the pockets of my Duluth Trading Company pants (jeans or cargo). But they both have big deep pockets.

My 642 has been wearing these (no longer in production) Safariland grips for a few months now. I have a set in black as well, in an unopened box. They offer a full grip, and fit in my pockets just fine. YMMV of course. Loaded with semi-wadcutters. Sorry for the cellphone pics.

I have been reading all your post for some time now and you helped me decided between the Ruger LCR and S&W X42, thanks for all the valuable information! Now just to start working on the accessories; pocket holster, ankle holster, speed strips, hogue grips. Any other suggestions?

Congrats! Sounds like you've got everything you need once you pick up some ammo for it (target and defense) and some targets to shoot at.

Of the things you mentioned, I'd leave the ankle holster for last. I've got an ankle holster for my 642 and I've maybe used it twice in three years. And then just to see if I could easily conceal three guns at a time (I can ).

I tend to agree with P'Dawg on the ankle holster, but that's just a gut level, not based in experience.
They just never seemed that practical to me, but then I'm no expert.

Any reason you'd consider an ankle holster v, say, pocket carry, OWB or IWB?
