I have been very remiss to be so long in posting. I see some familiar and unfamiliar names, but it is good to see that The Club is doing well. Life is full and busy, and I don't get to the range near enough. Regardless, I must make more effort to visit here more frequently--it still feels good to just come and lurk.
My 642 is doing well and handling the CCW duty just fine. I always pocket carry in my Mika round cut, which is holding up just fine (it really is the best pocket holster).
I hope you all had a wonderfully Merry CHRISTmas and I wish you all a very Happy and Prosperous New Year.

Funny story about my 642 happened just the other day.
My wife owns a Makarov. She picked it, she likes it, she shoots well with it. I like it, too, for that matter. Really easy to shoot, and very accurate and reliable.
She hates carrying it. It's too big and heavy, and as a result, she almost never carries anything because she isn't interested in getting something else. That's her gun, and she likes it, except for that little part about actually packing it.
So, we were visiting her family 200 miles from home, and she'd left her Mak in the safe. I had my model 13-3 for hunting backup, since I was hiking with the dog and my shotgun, and my 642 for packing in town. She was going for a walk with the kids, and I handed her the 642.
When she came back, she was going on and on about how light it was and how much it didn't weigh down her purse and how she forgot it was there. She still had it in there when we went out to dinner because it was so light she forgot about it, so I had to carry my .357. LOL.
I doubt she's going to convert to one, unless I only load it with super light handloads, but at least it has opened her eyes to the fact that there are other guns out there, and she might find one that she likes well enough to actually pack the durned thing.

Got myself a Mika holster as well as an IWB Blackhawk for carrying. The Mika is superb, I just need to go shopping for some pants with larger pockets! The blackhawk works well also, I use it when I'm fishing and other such things at the lake.

Kept coming back and looking at those Heritage grips. Couldn't stand it any longer so I ordered a set for my 442 yesterday. My 640-1 has Spegels.Another cousin.

Can I join. Picked this one up today.
I am not new to a S&W Airweight, as I have previously owned a 638. I recently went back to a S&W Airweight and bought the 642. Mine came with the Crimson Trace grips which are nice, but I was wondering something. The standard comes with the regular length boot grips. Why does the Crimson Trace model come with the longer grip? I want the boot grip length so it will fit in my pocket easier. Just thought that was odd that they made them longer for that particular model.
If anyone wants to trade me the longer grips for the boot grip length Crimson Trace with rubber overmold, I'm game ;-)

WOW, I haven't been here in a long, long time. It was great looking back a few pages and seeing some of the names that made this post what it is. Much water and tears have gone under the bridge since I have been here last, but it sure feels good feeling good again.

I just picked up a 642-2 earlier this week and was wondering if I can join the club too. Took the little snub to the range on thurday and remembered why I love the little J-frame (had a 638 years ago but I sold it foolishly). It is now a permanent member of my collection and a will be a frequently carried CCW. Currently loaded with 129 +P Hydra Shoks.

Gunner, IIRC you can probably find the ILS surgery on You Tube.
Many have done it and there are even plugs you can purchase to patch the hole. Don't forget to put it back in original order if you need to sent it in for work. I don't know if S&W would have an issue with repairs or not with a modified item.
You could always buy a lockless version and sell yours.

CT Swap Out 405s for 305s
I have wanted to get my hands on a set of CT 305s (the larger ones) for a number of years. I ran into a good deal on the internet where Optics Planet was selling demo, refurbished CTs at a good price so I made the buy and did the swap on my 642-2. Installation tood minutes and the fit was flawless. Couldn't tell these from new. This is my Wife's bedside snub so I think a larger grip is appropriate for IWB, OWB or night stand.
Although it doesn't look like much of a difference, it does provide a full grip as opposed to pinky under and just a little more bulk. Very comfortable. I tried it in my Mika roundcut and a pair of blue jeans. At least in this pair, the full grip was almost exposed so that 3/8s difference is considerable in marginal pants.
I tried it IWB in an Uncle Mikes number 36 and it was really nice. Much faster to deploy and I it wouldn't matter IWB or OWB concealed properly.
If I were only going to own one or the other and particularly if I were only going to pocket carry, the smaller 405s are a better fit and work well IWB and acceptably OWB.
For deep pockets, OWB only I would default to the larger 305s. IWB it's probably a tossup unless the longer butt might cut into dunlop-over syndrome.

I had a strange parts failure on my 442 at the range yesterday. I was shooting when the cylinder release flew off the gun. I found the release, but not whatever part keeps it on the gun.
My 442 is less than a year old, so I requested a label from S&W; I presume they'll fix it on their dime.
The gun still functioned and fired fine, it was just a bit harder to open the cylinder.
