Bed side gun?

Up until last saturday, I had my Ruger P90 loaded on my nightstand. After last Saturday, it's my S&W 66-1. I also keep my AR, with a loaded 20-round magazine, near my bed as well.

I used to keep my 1911 on my nightstand loaded with Corbon Powrballs but then I got my present carry peice (GLOCK 26) and just use that now as it got to be too much hassle putting away and taking out two different guns.

Now my GLOCK comes out of my pocket at the end of the day and straight onto the nightstand, then in the morning it goes right back in my pocket. Easy-peasy. Besides, I put a small scratch on my 1911's lovely blue finish once when setting on the nightstand. I don't care so much about the GLOCK getting scratched up.

Like Eljay, only mine is a 100-pound Rhodesian Ridgeback, either next to or on the bed. Then, in the nightstand drawer (no locks - no kids in my house) is a Sig P220 in .45 ACP (round in chamber, decocked) with Crimson Trace grips (I don't want to have to hunt my glasses), a Surefire light and a spare magazine. Cell phone either there or on charger on other side of room.

Springfield 45 microcompact in a fanny pack by the head of the bed. It is my carry gun and has night sites. Also a very bright flashlight next to it. I see the flashlight as a necessity to avoid 'friendly fire' against a family member. (I have 5 children). Alarm system goes on every night.

Yes, Nightstand next to bed

...

My night gun is my all Black, Sig P229 CT (Crimson Trace laser grips) Carry 9mm w/JHP's, in a black holster, and in the second draw down, open, with my black-warm-ups (I wear in the morning) in the open drawer, then the black holster and gun on top of them, so I can look slightly down, and see the rear Night sights, and it's an easy arm's reach close/grab.

Big Blue Flashlight, right next to the bed, leaning straight up, on the bed post support, again, right below, at arms reach, both very quickly. But as mentioned by others, the first thing you see when you look for one's gun are those 2rear, green-glowing, night sights, making it a sure thing.

The drawer is opened just wide enough for the black pants, then gun and holster (all black as well) to fit just leaning on the edge, so the grip is up and at me, first.

Never have been woken by anything bad, but I never miss any of our Earth quakes, they wake me up, no matter. And, we know the big German Shepherd has the downstairs all to his needs, during every night, as well.

But, I do thank the good Lord/Spirit around, and above, for all the safe nights, as they don't go unnoticed.. as do the safe days.

How well put!

For relevance: Gun.

My kids are grown/gone. A black K-Bar (always loaded) is ON the nightstand. A Ruger P-89 with Trigicon sights is IN the nightstand. I'm REALLY good at braille, having spent too many years for my own good doing things in the dark. . . .

Noxx, if you fired that 686 off in your bedroom, would you be able to see, or even know where you were any more? Those suckers make a flash and boom.

If I had just rolled out of bed? Probably not.

However the wife and I view our master bedroom as our safe room. The dogs sleep in our room, we don't have children or anyone else in the house to worry about protecting. They can have the TV if they can carry it. Hence my bedroom is *heavily* re-inforced, all the way around. By the time I'd actually have to shoot someone in an o-dark-thirty break-in, the cops are en-route, and I'm up with the lights on having a sammich with that 686 in my lap.

FWIW, some serious reinforcement to your sleeping quarters can be worth a lot more peace of mind than one might think, and is not all that hard to accomplish provided you can send the wife somewhere for a weekend while you're ripping out drywall.

Ready to be used at night near the bed... lets see whats present, beretta 96loaded. AK47 /w bayonet wrapped up under bed if time permits. And as the solution to the original question, what if the guy is right on top of you, I think I have the strangest solution US MODEL 1903A1

opps, didnt finish. I tend to sleep on my stomach so my arm naturally goes up over the top of the mattress where it is lying, so if/when I wake up like that it used to ready as a club, however now it has turned 180 degrees and has the o so friendly model 1905 bayonet attached. just enough (16") to really ruin someones day. From sleeping position I can easily get more than enough swing to punch through 2 people. or decapitate a midget.

Does anyone here have a loaded gun that is near you while you sleep?

Yep.
Started about age 5 with a .22 nine shot revolver.
Added a youth sized .410 single shot with a slug chambered best recall about halfway into first grade, age 6.

Get a bit bigger, Model 10 and single shot 28 gauge, with a round ball slug loading.

K frames, J frames, 1911s, BHPs pretty much the standard,...not that some others are not used like Model 29s with full house .44 magnum and .44 Special loads to keep me and mine comfy...

Shotguns, and rifles in addition...

How raised - what you do.

My nightstand gun is my SA-XD40 with a loaded 12 round magazine of Winchester Ranger 155's.:D I've also got a Streamlight TLR-1 mounted on the rail. My Mossberg 500 12 gauge is also close at hand, 3 steps from the bed.:D

XD40 in a holster, holster fitted into a Night Sentry rig that fits between mattress and box springs. I always sleep on my back, and can draw cleanly and quickly, without even sitting up if need be. I also keep a Surefire on the NS rail, so I don't have to bump around looking for it landed after the cats have knocked it off the table...

The NS is not at all obvious unless one is looking for it (and it's covered by the bedspread during the day); I can't say that about laying it on the nightstand as I used to do. I do keep an extra loaded mag on the stand, but that's about it

My Springfield .45 Micro wich is my carry gun, retires under whichever book I happen to be reading at the moment on top of my nightstand. Three-way light switches allow me to turn on the lights from multiple positions in every room. The wife keeps her .44 special on her nightstand. Considering the deadbolts, the alarm system and our Boxer I would imagine we would be awake and ready to greet any intruders in the night.

S&W .38 in a gun rug in the dresser drawer, Makarov with one in the chamber and a spare mag on a closet shelf.

The plan is for the wife to gather the kids and the .38, while I keep the bad guys at bay with the Mak until the cops get there.

Trying to keep things simple, reliable, safe for us, and to not send a stray round through a neighbor's walls.

You bet I do. Springfield XD 45, or one of my Glocks. Mine resides in a small Gunvault on my nightstand because of small children in the house.
