Kimber Custom ready to R&R (one 8 rd in it,2 next to it, 4 more through out the house) just under the edge of my bed. I can reach it from in the bed or just roll off and use bed for cover.

PT 145 w/extra mag ready to R&R in the night stand.

870 exp within reach of bed in corner.

On HER side of the bed

Mossburg 20ga in corner and,

357 in her night stand

another 870 in the office here next to puter

Colt 1991A1 loaded with gold dots very close to me, .44 mag within arms reach, bushmaster xm15 within arms reach, and finally a Mil Pro in .45 by the computer desk near the end of my bed. All in condition 3, with at least 1 spare mag for each. The AR just so happens to have 70 rounds ready to rock :)

"Does anyone here have a loaded gun that is near you while you sleep?"

Does anyone not have one??? WTH...
Mine's a Glock 19, +1 spare mag.:D

I keep the remote for this on my nightstand:

:p

But seriously, my bedside gun is a 4" Ruger GP100 loaded with 110 gr. .357 magnum Corbon:

I have a rig I designed set up behind a leg of the night-table. Very easy to grab from the bed if you know its there, not so easy to notice if you don't. In it, is a P345 with a tac light. Also sometimes nearby and accessible are other guns, most commonly a Mossberg 590.

I figure if you post here, you probably have some sort of firearm within a reasonable range of your bed. I'd be more interested in seeing how people have them set up so they're maybe hidden from plain view but easy to get to.

XD-45 in a XD-Gear holster jury-rigged (no bailing wire or duct tape) to the side of the night stand between the bed. It's within easy reach, as is the sure-fire 9P. I had set this up before I got into X10 stuff, all sorts of monitoring crap wrapped inside a bunch of perl that sends SMS messages to my cell (also bedside). Motion sensor at the front and rear doors, motion sensors on 1st floor windows, audible alarm if locked door opens. Two canine that could gnaw the kneecaps off a fraggle, but do a good job barking ferociously when the front gate opens, they don't send SMS though. :) I figure I'll have enough time to get the kids downstairs to the "safe" room whilst the cops on en route. I haven't had to clear the house of any BG's yet, hopefully it stays that way. I don't want to hear what a 180GR Gold Dot sounds like at O'dark thirty, not sure I want to know what it looks like either.

My Bedside Protection

I keep a SIG P229 - 9mm with Crimson Trace and NiteSites in a Wilderness Tactical Safepacker Holster.

I have a King Waterbed, so I fold the holster flap over backwards, and place it between the waterbed mattress and the frame which keeps it in place and secure. I also open the velcro on the holster so that the gun sits right at my head and I can grab and draw extremely fast. :D

I keep it loaded with 147 gr hornady JHP: one chambered and 17 in the magazine. I also have a spare 17 rd mag in the holster mag compartment.

As someone else said, my early warning is a closed bedroom door, with a solid doorstop placed behind it; so if anyone tries to open it they'll have to struggle against the doorstop - which gives me warning and time to respond ! :neener:

S & W 686 with 2.5" tube loaded with Gold Dot 135 gr. +P in .38 special. Excellent gun and more than adequate round.

I am from the mountains of Tennessee but I am in the military and stationed in Virginia at the moment. I have an apartment right outside base and it is really ghetto. The apartments lower the price for military but they can not segregate and rent out to only military, they have to let everybody in... which means, lower prices = scum of the earth. There have been quite a few shootings and other various gang crimes in the parking lot since I have been here. I am just thrilled at the thought of my lease being up so I can move to a better/safer area. I have called the cops a few times, their reaction time is around 3-5 minutes (they are used to coming here). I have an AK and an SKS. I used to keep the AK loaded by my bed just in case but I started thinking about my unborn sons hearing in the occurance of me having to use it. Then I found this safari knife at a junk store and fell in love. This is my first line of defense now.

In the case that bullets ever did come in through my window from some gangbangers shooting each other and especially if they injured me, my wife or my son the morgue here would be fully stocked with wanna be gangsters.

Man, a lot of XD owners here. Too much plastic in this thread :) So I keep one of these under my bed. As well as a RockRiverArms Entry Tac AR15.

Sorry, but I think a closed and locked bedroom door must really be living in fear and I personally hope I never have to go that far in my house. If I can't get ready to take action before they break down the front or back door, I am in deep chili!!

As long as their "kicking" down the doors, you're probably right. Problem is the silent entries ! They're in your house BEFORE you know it, and at your bedroom door !

Believe it or not, there are many B&E "artists" out there who can easily enter without "kicking" down the front and back door.

Hence, my closed BR door (not locked).... and the important item, the DOORSTOP.... that way even if they're an expert picking locks, they'll still make noise with the doorstop AND be surprised when it doesn't open for them.

I'd say "artist" or no "artist" its gonna be a hell of a lot easier to get rid of your door stop without making a sound then it will be to get into your house silently. If he got that far already there are bigger things to worry about.

Maybe you'd like to see my "doorstop" ?

It's the one used by LEOs to make sure doors don't open behind their backs, and they work real well ! :D

XD 45 with 14 rounds of 230 grain HydraShoks. I keep it on the nightstand beside the bed when it's not on my side.
