Brady Grades

I cannot believe my homestate of VA rated a "C". A state with no waiting period for handguns...C. A state with a wide ranging and easy to obtain CCW law...C. Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson must be spinning in their graves. At least it was a C minus.

The state where I'm home-stationed at now (NC) merits the C grade. Purchase permits for handguns AND a 5 day wait. What tomfoolery!

New Mexico: F two years running. If we manage to hold on for another year, do we win a prize?

Oh, yeah. This year we dropped CCW age from 25 to 21. Do I see an F- in our future? :D

Go Texas!

I'm glad to see Texas did so well, but, there is still room for improvement. Ever wonder why the Brady website doesnt have a "contact us" link?:scrutiny:

Aww shucks they skrewed up!!
The Brady Bunch gave The Great State of MN a bad grade partly due to the claim that Background checks are not required at Gun Shows, This is inaccurate as I have had a check done at a show.
I better email them and let them know!!! NOT!!!
On the plus side our CCW is now a shall issue as opposed to at Local LE discretion.
Workin in MN to lower our Brady Grades

Considering the Brady nazis have been going to Florida airports and giving tourists fliers informing them to not make any intense gestures at natives for fear of gun violence, I'd have to think we in the Sunshine State would do fairly well on a recent test.

BTW, I think if you maintain an F for 3 years running, the governor wins a set of steak knives.

While we in Florida are very impatient, it is noteworthy that in a mere 4 years we went from a C- to a solid D+. With "make my day" and growing CCW reciprocity, in a short time we could earn the coveted F or F-. :p Joe

why bad?

What is up with that demerit for CCW reciprocity. Brady classifies it as a bad thing... I am actually limiting my vacation options to states that do reciprocate with PA.

Other states considering Vermont Carry

Really? Which ones? Where'd you hear this?

New Hampshire got it through the House in 2004, but failed in the Senate.

Unconfirmed reports that Utah and Wyoming have considered it. Input from UT/WY THRfolks?

There's a scattering of good info on the subject on THR Search, including the messy details of New Hampshire.

Some of the criterion for a "bad" grade -

"prohibits litigation against gun manufacturers"

"does not allow the carrying of concealed weapons, but it does not allow cities and counties to enact ordinances to prevent gun violence or regulate secondary sales"

Of course the first one they list is: "No Child Access Prevention law" - The "Its for the children" sacred cow (no one dares to speak against the sacred cow)

For more of the idiocy, go to the website.

Sounds like a list of which states we ought to move to, to me. Wyomings looking pretty nice!

hawaii sucks...

hawaiis gun laws suck. A- damn we need to get at least to a D. we desperately need help here. too many people are afraid of firearms in general and stuck in their ways. damn blue state.:barf:

Bad news, that D+ is up (down?) from a D- in 2003. Hopefully we'll get our D- back for 2005.

Ohio has a D, but now it would surely be lower. We can now carry concealed. Something this grade left out. Hopefully we'll get an F- in the next one. The idiots in Colombus might do against us though.
I can't believe some states prohibit minors from posessing firearms when they are under a certain age. When I was a kid I had a rifle and a shotgun on my bedroom wall. I don't know if this is considered possesion, but if it is; the govt' has no right to tell parents when they can pass on their traditions and values to their children.

I find this weird.

In Washington, which had a D+, only 68 teenagers or children died of firearms.
But in California, which had an A-, 675 teenagers or children died of firearms.

How do you explain that?

Washington: 5,894,121 (2000 census)
California: 33,871,648

Still, that gives a rate of 1.15 per 100,000 for Washington, 1.99 per 100,000 for California. So Washington's kids are 57% safer from firearms than California's.

I'm just happy that Nebraska is going to loose it's B.

Of course, it took some creative interpretations of the law to give it that high of a grade.
