Which color?

  • #1 Pepper

  • #2 Forest Camo

  • Neither one: I’ll give you my opinion

Thanks everyone for your help so far. I am planning a walnut one on another project coming up. But, I’m using this one for a practice run. :) I’m also curious, has anyone used one on there “at one”stocks? The amount of adjustment is what I am really after. Has anyone ever used their different profile grips and forearm bits?

I would stay away from the thumbhole stocks like what I posted earlier if you plan on shooting from both your strong and weak sides or if you someone that uses the opposite hand as you will shoot the rifle.

I can't help with the adjustability of the At-One stocks since I don't own one. The Boyds thumbhole stock that came with my Savage MkII has a low comb and does not allow for a good Chee weld when using a scope.

I’m definitely not going with a thumb hole. I personally have never cared for them. I know some that love em, But that’s not me :)

Of the two, I like Pepper better than the camo, but I tend to get more colorful options when I buy Boyds stocks. My “basic” color Boyds’ favorite colors are coyote and nutmeg, but I most often pick one of the more bold colors. I’ve never been a fan of the camo, not quite sure what it is, I think mostly the baby diarrhea color of the yellow/tan, but I’m not a fan. Pepper can look cool, and most of the time, I think it DOES look cool, but part of me always associates a black stock back to cheap polymer stocks, so it’s not my favorite look. But Pepper does have more of an OEM vibe than most other colors (besides nutmeg), and has that sleek, sleeper groove, so again, between camo and Pepper, I’m 100% Team Pepper.
I flop back and forth on the camo. I would like to see a dark brown/green version without the gray. Mostly I wish they were all darker. I also like the royal jacaranda and have one on a pre e-receiver Savage MKII laying around somewhere.

That’s one killer looking sks. Makes me want one……….. who makes that rear sight on there? That would be one slick hunting setup
It's a "custom" job lol. That's a Williams, I believe for a Remington model 8.... I've still got it at the house since I ended up swapping that out for a saddle style scope mount, and the guy who has it now doesn't like iron sights very much.

Downsides are that you have to drill and tap two holes in the side of the receiver and It also rides low enough that the rear sight interferes with your sight picture.
The site picture issue can be fixed by removing the rear sight, or installing a taller front sight.

Otherwise I like it better than any of the other peep site options for the SKS.

I've had a couple of them, a standard and the other thumb hole.
The standard one never even got installed. I didn't like the way it felt, It got put on another friend's rifle and he's quite happy with it. It just had the "sporter" grips on it.
I installed and used the thumb hole style stock for a while but eventually took that off and give it to someone here on the forums as well. That one also just had the sporter forend, so again, I can't say as to how that wider target style parts would feel.
One nice thing about the at one thumb hole is that it's a wide ambidextrous set up.

My major complaint in usage about the at one stocks was that the length of pull adjustment is too short to make it worthwhile for me, but I'm not using them as kids rifles.
The cheek piece is nice but I can add a saddle to pretty much any stock for about five bucks worth of parts and a half hour of time.... Definitely not as cool looking or as easy to adjust though.....

Looks much cleaner than the tech sights for instance. Nice work.

That’s good to know. I’m not doing a thumb hole(I just don’t care for the look) but that is good to know. I’m thinking of getting the camo dip “target” style forearm and grip possibly. Haven’t decided. It would look kind of neat with the forest camo color… hmmmm

My two Boyd’s laminates (Win Mod. 70 7mm REM Mag and Ruger American .22 WMR) both wear the standard walnut brown finish. I guess I’m just plain that way. :)

Of the suggestions the guys have posted, the Coyote laminate one I like a bit more than the Pepper. No go for me on the forest, YMMV.

(I’m sure it will look cool no matter which you go with . )

Stay safe.

You mean like this pre-E Savage MkII?

People can say what they want but this little bugger will shoot and it is not at all picky about ammo. Yes, I am sure a good CZ in the right hands might beat it most times but would need to work at it some.

Just like that! Mine is a hell of a shooter too. I only bought another later E-receiver model to use the Boyd's tacticool stock I bought before I knew the difference.

I have the pepper on my 700. Its one of the cheap 700 rifles that came with that awful black plastic stock and that "matte" bluing Remington uses on their cheaper guns like the express shotguns that looks like parkerizing sort of, and its a total rust magnet so it needs a coat of oil after every use. It makes that bad finish look good.

I have same rifle and put one of those on it. It has been removed and has sat in a storage closet for years as it and I just didn't get along good together. It was just a little "off" in fit to suit me. I agree with "this little booger will shoot" statement. A seriously accurate little gun for not a whole lot of dollars. Too bad they changed them up with the new model.

Put a Boyd's thumbhole stock on my T/C Encore a couple years ago. Had a tough time making the decision, and finally went with the Forest Camo. No regrets and it has kind of grown on me. Here's what it looks like on an Encore... IMG_0520.JPG ..... When I got a new CZ-455 in 2017 the LGS told me that the thumbhole stock it came in was made by Boyd's for CZ. Don't know if that's true or not but it looked like some of the other Boyd's stuff I had seen and the color looks a lot like what Boyd's calls "Nutmeg Laminate"...Here's a pic of it perched on a trail cam in the squirrel woods when I was out changing SD cards. IMG_2924.JPG ....

That Coyote laminate was among the finalists when I was deciding about that Encore stock. Boyd's has a lot of good stuff to choose from. While we're discussing Boyd's stocks, I should add that my stock was a perfect fit and there were no surprise issues with it.

I've had probably at least one of every color that they offer. My favorite is probably the blaze. The last applejack that I got was much more pink than in years past.
