We are fighting a battle for our national soul, and attaching firearms to a political slant or particular demographic is short-sighted and WE WILL LOSE. Firearms are not beloved by all Republicans, nor hated by all Democrats, and the same goes with the poorly applied "liberal" and "conservative" labels. Further, using them tends to alienate the curious who are here to learn. Let's help them learn that some gun owners are accepting of all law-abiding potential gun owners, regardless of where they sit on the political spectrum.
Due process of diligence in politics is similar to due process of law. Due process of law applies the law on a case by case basis to individuals who are tried on the basis of their personal actions, not their membership in, or perceived affiliation with, any group. Generally, prosecution or legislation against anyone because a perceived or real group association is a denial of due process of law.
In politics, it is easy to group politicians by their party affiliation and while this is helpful to some extent, is can be hurtful as many political candidates hide their true beliefs behind a party label. if your attention does not extend to the individual candidate's political statements and actions, you have denied that candidate (and yourself) due process of diligence.
Due diligence takes extra effort. Straight party voting is the lazy way out.
