Common calibers in collection?

I like having firearms that the ammunition is easy to find for. My handguns are in
.22LR/.22 magnum
9mm
.357
.40

The biggest drawback to .40 is the cost. It is about $5 more for a box of .40 fmj at walmart here than 9mm. That said I like my .40's. Whether you should keep the 27 or part with it for a 26 is strictly up to you.

The more the merrier. It also increases your odds of finding "some" ammo in one of the calibers you may shoot. Our handgun calibers:

.25 ACP
.22 LR
.380
.38
9mm
.357
.40 S&W
.45 ACP
.45 Colt

Rifle:
.22 LR
.38/.357
9mm
.45 Colt
.223/5.56
7.62x39
.308

Shotgun is easy - 12ga.

Probably adding 10mm soon ;)

I'm retired, and wanted to simplify the variety of calibers I had...

I traded several guns, now have 3 in .45 ACP, 2 in .357 Magnum, 1 in .38 Spl, one in .32 ACP, one in .25 Acp, and 3 in .22 Rf...also have 2 antiques in .38 S&W, but they are not shot often.

I used to have others in .45 Colt and .44 Magnum and .44 Special, but I found ammo was hard to find locally and very expensive.

Depends. Do you handload?

Before I started handloading, I did not own the 10mm, .41 Mag or .45LC. Since I can now manufacture my own ammo at a reasonable cost, I now own each of these chamberings.

I've been "simplifying" my handgun collection recently. Right now I am down to:

  • .22LR
  • .357Mag
  • 9mm
  • .45APC
And I'm thinking of selling off the 9mm (an old G17) to help finance the purchase of a S&W .22 Kit Gun which would bring me down to just three calibers which I feel cover all the handgun roles I have (not just three guns mind you but just three calibers).

Now, this is really just personal preference. Especially of you reload there is no real reason not to have a dozen different handgun calibers in your collection. On the other hand, most people can get by easily with just two or three.

I try to keep it as simple as possible. Been thinking about adding
.40 though to my collection.

I'm a collector so I have a variety of handgun calibers.

Pistol
10mm
.45acp
.40S&W
9mm Luger
.380acp
7.62x25mm TOK
.32acp
.25acp
.22lr

Revolver.
.45 Colt
38/357
.32S&W
.22lr

You never know when ammo's gonna get scarce like during the Obama panic. The only caliber that was available in stores on a consistent basis around here was .40S&W. The worst was .380 it couldn't be found for love or money.

I do reload so I could keep myself supplied for awhile, but even components like primers and bullets were scarce and hard to find.
