Do you own, or have you in the past owned a pickup truck

  • Yes as a gun owner, I also own or have owned a pickup truck (an SUV or similar does NOT qualify!!)

More of a sports car type.

I currently own a Hyundai Santa Fe (more of an overgrown station wagon than the SUV portrayed) and my wife has a Tiburon. I do not currently own a pickup.

I have previously owned Datsun 240Z's (three) and Ford sedans. The one and only pickup I owned was a 1978 Ford (Mazda) Courier.

Plans are to purchase another utility vehicle when I retire and move to the country. Possibly a Pinzgauer. However, the utility vehicle will be for utility purposes, not because I feel more normal driving a pickumup truck.

I just found another image of a couple of guns associated with my first truck:
an early jeep pickup that my dad and I hobbled together from parts.

I'm not in the picture (I took it),
but two of my friends (Steve & Bill, long since lost) are.

Circa 1964. We were "running" the river bottom,
shooting cans and squirrels for the stew pot.

As a world-class cheapskate, I have owned every kind of vehicle at one time or another. I owned one new Suburban and leased one new Crown Victoria before I had a rush of brains to the head and realized that it cost beaucoup bucks to turn them on the first time.

I've had a full-up one-ton Chevy with a 454 engine and a full-up camper for the top end in weight and a '73 240 Z on the low end (fun!).

I buy vehicles on the cheap and have always had very satisfactory performance from them after the initial shakedown cruise.

Present vehicle is an Audi 5000CS Quattro Turbo I picked up for $500 with a trunk you could have put the 240Z in. Or many many rounds of ammo and many many guns.

And, and, boys and girls... it has a Ski Tunnel in the trunk. Big deal, you say? Yes. Because two or three rifles can fit in there. Or an M2.

So here's one to take the correlation coefficient (rho) of trucks and guns down a little.

I think we should do another poll.

As a gun owner, have you ever driven a VW bus or a Volvo?

I can answer yes to the first:
I've had two VW buses (and two beetles). :what:

Balancing out the stereotypes...

I drive a cosmetically-challenged Toyota AWD wagon with 305K miles on it, covered with liberal/environmental bumper stickers and a Christian fish decal.

I use it to take other liberals shooting. :)

I retired my JEEP Wrangler to the garage as a toy. My daily driver is a lifted 2000 Ford Ranger 4x4 extended cab pickup. Yep I proudly fit the stereotype. No Saabs in my driveway:D

Oh, like it's really a statistically-valid poll...

I don't think people are reading the questions thoroughly. if you HAVE or HAD a truck, vote yes.

Just because one adds comments doesn't mean one hasn't voted correctly.

The comments are what makes polls like this fun.

Valid, no, fun, yes. That's why there are eight pages to this thread. :)

A VW bus.......... Since it's a one ton vehicle, I guess it is a truck

A VW bus has no where near the payload capacity of a one ton truck. Just because the vehicle weighs over 2,000 lbs does not mean it's a one ton in the sense we're talking about.

The unibody construction, Independent rear suspension and tiny wheel bearings in a VW bus will not handle driving around with a pallet of flagstone over them.

A VW bus is not a truck by any stretch of the imagination. It is a scaled-up beetle.

miss my pickup

I traded my Silverado, one of the best vehicles I have ever owned (and I am a car nut), last spring on a luxury SUV - a Buick Rainier that I really like. It has a 6500 tow rating and carries my two labs more conveniently than the PU. It is pretty plush but built on a full truck frame (think cross a Chevy Trailblazer with a Park Avenue). Still, I miss the pickup at times.

when the going gets rough: the world's rattiest Yamaha 4 wheeler, Yamaha dirtbike.

Oh yeah - I smoke cigars, too.

keeping this kinda sorta gun related...

the lower center seat cushion folds up to reveal a hidden compartment, where I keep my back up gun.
