Gun "Super Owners"

For some reason I never ran across this term until tonight, but I've since found it in about 20 different articles once I did a Google search for the phrase. Anyway, apparently I'm superior at something!

While I've long figured that a minority of gun owners probably own most of the guns, I didn't realize that owning 8 or more guns qualified you as a "Gun Super Owner". I suppose this is probably true with most activities, where the real enthusiasts often own multiple versions of things that are relatively similar. Honestly, I feel a bit proud, LOL. Even though this term was probably a political attempt to slam serious gun owners, I'm still amused by it.

So, are you a "Super Owner", too?

Owning more than 8 guns makes you a "super owner"? Who defined that? I'm not doubting your findings, but 8 guns seems shy of "super". I've never heard the term before but when I read it, I pictured 75+ at least. If 8 is all it takes then yes, easily count me in as a super owner. I would suspect most of us here on THR are. Or very close, or well over.

Click the Guardian link on the Time.com article for a good dose of anti firearm bias. Any statistics concerning american gun owners provided by Harvard/Northeastern University and published by a United Kingdom news source is, IMO, dubious. The article makes a lame attempt to provide both sides of the issue concerning firearm ownership but, to me, it's overall message is clear. Guns are evil and gun owners more so.
The headline "Gun inequality: U.S. study charts rise of hardcore super owners" sets the tone for the entire opinion piece. So if you own more than eight firearms your not only a super owner your a "hardcore" super owner.with the actual definition of hardcore being open to interpretation I guess.There are a couple of video links in the Guardian piece that I can't/won't watch as I'm out of my blood pressure meds and can't get a refill until later today.:fire:
And you can color me HARDCORE x5.....

When I first started buying guns, if someone would ask 'how many do you have'? it was easy to give them the number. Always figured that when/if I couldn't answer such a question it meant I had enough. So now...I've either got enough or Alzheimers because I can't put a number on them.:) 'Super Owner' many times over for me I guess.
 
Yeah, there was a thread on this here a year or so back, and I think I identified myself as a "four-time-Super-Owner" then.

I would define a "super owner" as someone who has lost count of how many guns he has. I reached that stage years ago. Now, I can tell you how many I have in a particular category: 5 M1917 Enfields, 5 Garands, and so on.
 
Funny how multiple guns become an arms cache, with a hoard of ammo. Those who can't justify ownership of one gun recoil in horror at having as many as, *gasp* eight. Locally, I know a man with 64 guns. As for me, I cannot ju$tify owning a gun not used pretty often for some designated purpose. I also do not consider, at my age, guns to be a suitable investment. I am definitely not a "super owner".
 
When the term first came around I think last year check out the threads started on THR, good stuff lol. Yes there are many of us out there.

I've got a friend that owned 16 guns and I said 'if you buy one more you'll be in the SUPER gun owners club' haha. (He did).
 
I've got eight steak knives in the counter knife rack and just as many in the drawer. My wife as at least that many cake, bread, and muffin tins for baking. There are dozens of wrenches in my two tool boxes - metric vs inch - and I won't even begin to relate the number of automatic knives in that box.

I've got that many watches for crying out loud. All working. And double that number of pictures of the kids on the wall just in the living room alone.

Christmas albums on LP, much less CD.
Coffee mugs.
Radios.
Cell phones, half in use.
Oven mitts for cooking.
Frank Sinatra albums.

The problem is that the concept focuses exclusively on guns - which then makes it seem desperately important when the writer deliberately excludes comparing it to all the other normal stuff we own. And I'm not all that well off - shall we count in those who collect "collectibles?" My coworker likes Hot Wheels, he buys collections rated in the tote case level, ie shipping crates. He and others who I've worked with own PALLETS of totes filled with Hot Wheels.

Someone mentions they bought a pallet of ammo here and even the hardcore shooters raise their hackles. "You shouldn't post that the gummint don't need to know you have an arsenal."

Which is where the "super owners" leads to - by discussing those who have more than whatever number is picked out of the air, the anti gunners can then fix attention on them, and the first ones out of line get to be the poster children for new laws regulating the number allowed in possession.

More regulation is anti gun.

This is why the subject is given little discussion on the boards. There is nothing good to come from it.
 
8 is a "super owner"? I am a super owner of underwear and never knew it.

Next thing you know I'll be a "hoarder" for hanging up my winter jacket that I won't be using for months.

All I can say is whoever came up with that must not own any.

I'm with you. If you don't shoot it why have it. I'm at the point where if I were to get another gun , something has to go. I go to the range twice a week and I usually take 2 guns each time and I struggle to shoot all the guns I own. I guess one thing that slows me down is that I reload for every gun I have except 22LR and shotgun.

I have gotten lazy. I'd rather stockpile some ammo than reload. Yeah, it is bit more expensive but lately I am all in to convenience.

The author of the study.

It's just another approach to "divide and conquer" by the anti-gun groups; put a label on the minority of people who own half the guns and then you can segregate them from the majority. If the anti-gun groups can then get the label to stick, then apply the specious "How many guns do you need?" argument to villify them and minimize opposition from those with fewer than eight guns.

It is a label that, in my opinion, is best ignored and allowed to fade into academic obscurity.
 
The Anti-Gun movement has long condemned the ownership of more than one firearm. The Euro laws which may allow a shotgun and 10 shells? The Left has tried for years to restrict gun ownership by instilling fear in the public's mind. Recall the movement aimed at gun ownership regarding children?
A mother should find out if her children were visiting playmates who's parents owned guns? They should not allow their children in any home where guns were present.:(
 
Well, if you listen to the media, 2 .22 caliber firearms and a bulk box of .22 ammo is an "arsenal"
 
What's funny, is that if you're "super wealthy" the left thinks it's unfair and wants to redistribute your wealth. But they certainly don't want to redistribute the firearms from the super owners. No, those people should be ridiculed as they are clearly insane!

I wonder how many guns it takes to be a 1%er?
