Just curious...I've had my CCW for about 2 years now and still don't carry. I always have reasons....like 1) my last job was with a Town...2) my new job is with a company that cannot have firearms on their property (including your car)....3) even if I was able to carry at work, I am in land development (civil engineer) and I have to meet with town's/city's officials about once/week and of course, you can't carry in public property. 4) I live near Cary, NC which statistically is one of the safest places in the US (don't argue this point...it's something that my wife keeps bringing up and I keep telling her, it only takes one to become a statistic).

Anyway, just wondering how many people "want" to carry, but still make excuses not too (i.e....other's like me).

And since I'm sure someone will ask...."what's the point of having a CCW if you don't carry?"...well, I get to buy any pistols without having to have an individual permit....plus I can keep pistols in a bag when I go to the range legally. (I'm looking at getting a carry holster now...so I plan on carrying...eventually).

I'm awaiting my CC permit but I realize I'll have limited opportunity to carry as:

1. My job is on a college campus that disallows possession of firearms:

"All staff members are prohibited from introducing, possessing, using, buying, or selling unauthorized weapons, firearms, ammunition, explosives, or items deemed by campus police to be dangerous. This prohibition includes all university-controlled sites and all university-directed activities."

and I take public transit (city bus) to and from work so leaving my handgun in the car isn't an option.

2. If I go out to dinner at a restaurant with my wife, I usual have a couple of drinks. I don't want to carry when I've even had one drink.

So I'm limited to when I go shopping or when I go to the range.

well, just as long as you don't seek to deny others

I don't mind that you don't carry.
If you have never carried before I can understand why it makes you uncomfortable.
It takes awhile before it becomes as ordinary as wearing a watch.
I carried in SF even though it was illegal.

My brother is a cop back east and hardly ever carries off duty (I don't get it)

Do what works for you. That's what I do. Any one who knows me never knows if I am carrying. Sometimes yes, and sometimes no on CCW. Does anyone actually care?

My son-in-law had a CCW license, but let it expire last year cuz I took his
firearm away from him; for failing to complete MY basic firearms training
safety course. And on top of that, he left his fully loaded Bersa Thunder
DT .380 on top of the bedroom dresser, in clear view and reach of my 2
year old grand-daughter. As of today, he still hasn't completed the safety
course; and he has not gotten his weapon back, as its safely locked away
in my safe~! :uhoh: ;)

After all, I'm the one who gave him the new Bersa; so I believe that I'm
entitled too take it away, as a result of his stupid actions~!:D

Matters not to me. The more people get licensed, the more political power we have. As much as some politicians would like to ignore hunters and fishermen, the numbers of licenses sold alone is enough to discourage some of them from pushing their agenda.

you have a permit and don't carry... then you REALLY need to empty your fire-extinguisher and put it back away empty, and make SURE you have the jack and spare tire in your car all ready to go, but throw away the jack-handle and lug wrench...

a tool you have, but can't use or own but can't access is a useless tool... WHY BOTHER with a permit if you won't use it?

I live in a very low crime part of NC, and I do not always carry. However, there have been a few times with my choice I should have been better prepared. I was lucky and the outcome was good, but I still feel it would have made more sense to have been armed with a gun instead of just a knife, a large son or two, and a bad attitude.

Hopefully, as I get older, I will get smarter!

Based on what I hear and see among those who have CPL’s in MI, I would say 90%+ carry infrequently or never. This is only an estimate, mind you, and not intended to be criticism. I could not care less what others do, as long as it does not have a direct effect on me or those I care about.

A Choice we Have

Everyone should make up their own minds about when to carry. I'm in my 12th year if packing and about two times a month I have to go where it's not allowed. That's about 30 minutes a month that I'm not armed. I'd like to cut that time down if I could.

I carry all of the time, when legal. I, too work for a company which prohibits firearms (among other things) at work, but my first stop once I arrive at home is to open the vault & arm myself. Having a permit to facilitate purchases may be a "perk," but God forbid, should you ever need to defend you or yours, your handgun would be a much more effective deterrent than attempting to give the BG a nasty paper cut with your permit. Should you decide to carry when allowable, ensure you are proficient . . . take some training, if necessary. IMHO, "some of the time" is vastly preferable to "never."

My CCW was gotten as political statement.
The politicians are much more likely to be a danger to my freedom. I will carry when I am comfortable with doing so, but that is not why I got it.

During my work week, I often go to military bases and other gov't facilities, so for me, CCW generally isn't an option during the week. I do carry at most other times.

I don't carry regularly since I live in apartments that border my college campus,so around campus and going to class I never carry(though with the surrounding neighborhood i probably should but I don't want to get expelled from school) When I go to work though I carry 100% of the time(I'm a pizza delivery driver for a chain that will go unmentioned as its against company policy to due so) and when traveling I usually carry.

I totally do not get having a permit to carry then not carrying. A co-worker got his CCW and never carries. He has a full size 1911 (Norinco) and says it's to big (I agree but if it was all I had I would use it). Now him and his wife go out once a month to expensive dinners with people. They have also made revervations at the Outer Banks in NC for a a week this summer which will cost well over a couple thousand bucks. But when it comes to defending himself and his family he balks at spending a measly $500 for a GLOCK 26 or even less then $300 for a lightweight revolver like a Charter Arms. I just don't get it. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

No Permit and I DO Carry....

What's ironic is that I don't yet have my CHP and I Open Carry here in Virginia every chance I get!

Your note about not being able to even have a firearm in your car on "company property" is disturbing and a controversial topic. The law has so far been changed in 5 states (more coming soon) to allow you to keep a gun locked in your. Are they going to assume responsibility for your own personal safety all the way back to your house where you can get to your firearm? Just another way corporate America is intruding into the lives of employees. We're employees and citizens, not lowly serfs..

Here's an NRA-ILA page about this.

I work in a place that makes and is taxed on alcohol. The Feds and owners really frown on use "carrying" on Company property. So, No not all the time.

He has a full size 1911

I carry a full-size 1911 & have for many years . . . in the waistband or in a shoulder rig . . . or in a MOB holster . . . circumstances dictate how . . . I dictate when (which = whenever I can do so legally). With the proper accessories, I find the 1911 to be an easily-concealable choice . . . but then, I LIKE 1911s!

Whenever I leave the house, I'm carrying. If naught else, it spares me the bother of having to decide whether to carry or not. Realistically speaking, I have to believe my life is worth defending wherever I am.

I am from Illinois so I can only carry when out of state, which I am a fair amount being only a few miles from Indiana. Basicly I carry pretty much any time I can do so legally. My wife doesn't normally carry, but is going to Florida this month and will carry in all states she is legal. Jim.

My primary carry gun is in my truck. I make the decision to carry after I get in and drive off. I have other firearms inside the house. Carry is the dominant choice unless I'm going into government buildings.

Just another way corporate America is intruding into the lives of employees. We're employees and citizens, not lowly serfs.
I totally agree! This applies to a number of legal activities.

Fortunately I live in a state with very few restrictions on what you can carry and where you may carry it.

The only one in the world who is charged with maintaining the safety of me and mine is me. I carry all day every day.

After all, who is with me every where I go every minute of every day? Just me. And wherever I happen to be, you may make book that I have a concealed deadly weapon on my person.

I have a relative in NC who chooses not to get a ccw permit for the simple reason that he can't carry it anywhere he feels that he needs to carry it. His son became a reserve LEO for the same reason, as a reservist he can carry in all of those off limit places.
As for me I carry every where that's legal and some places that are very Grey.

I spent $262.00 to get a CCW permit because believe in it. My employer does not allow me to carry at work, or in a company vehicle. The only chance I have is on the weekend. I believe in supporting the cause.
