I have been wanting a 10mm.

Who all makes a 10mm, and which ones the best?

Some pics would help.

Smith & Wesson makes the 10 series. 1006,1026,1066,1076 and 1086.

EAA Witness comes in either the full size or compact models.

Some 1911 (Ed Brown) manufactures have 10 mm varients too but Im not sure which ones.

I picked up the full size 1006 S&W this week for $400. Gonna use it for carry out in the field. Will post pics in the morning.

Too many beers for me during the SuperBowl to be handling guns tonight.

But here's one from gunsamerica

I recently bought a Kimber Stainless Target II, and its been a good pistol for me.

I have a Dan Wesson Pointman Major in 10mm. It is a full size 1911 pattern pistol. It is amazingly reliable with all types of ammo, and has a fit, and finish that is second to none. Acuuracy is spectacular. I wish I could post a pic of it, but I have posted all of the pics I have of it in other threads. If I get a chance....I'll try to post a new one here later.
As far as the different choices for a 10mm.....I'll list all of the ones I can think of.

Dan Wesson: Pointman Minor
Pointman Major
Pointman Dave Pruit
Patriot
Razorback
( Soon to release several compact models including a bobtail)

Glock: 20
29
And I believe they have some compensated versions of those models

S&W: 1006
1066
1076

EAA: Witness
Witness compact

Kimber: Not sure which model...But I do know they make them

Colt: The don't currently make them, but you can still find the old Delta Elite models. They are a heck of a nice gun.

Hope this is helpfull. Just be prepared.....Tens are quite addictive! Great choice in calibers BTW!:D

There are a lot of 10's out there. DA/SA auto's: S&W 10xx series as mentioned above. The Witness 10mm. There is also the Glock 20 and 29 in 10mm.

There are several 1911 based 10mm's. Dan Wesson makes one as well as Kimber. There are lots of Colt Delta's out there.

What about a revolver, a S&W 610?

Do you want to punch holes in paper, hunt with it, compete with it, or what?

Presently I have two 10mm's. A Caspian based custom 1911 and a Colt Delta Elite. Looking at a 610, and thinking real hard about it.

How much more can I add?

The 10mm is a true affecionado's cartridge. Born fom the F.B.I's desire to supersede the S&W Model 13, (in .357 S&W Magnum) this cartidge can truly be loaded into a round "for all seasons!" :)

Embrace it, (read: load it judiciously) and it will serve you well.

JMHO,

Scott

What do you want to do with it?

The best for target shooting is a Les Baer custom.

The best for hunting whitetail is probably a g20 with a 6" barrel.

The best for reliablity is probably a 610.

See where I am going.....

I don't think Baer offers 10mm guns anymore. The only calibers listed on their site are:

9mm
9x23
.38 Super
.400 Cor-Bon
.45 ACP

Here's a pic of mine that I purchased last week for $400. Came with the wood grips but I elected to put on Hogue grips instead.

I have a Glock-20. I like it alot. Easiest and cheapest for conversions/do it yourself mod's. The Glock trigger takes some getting used to. Low recoil.
1911 styles have better triggers and sights usually.
S&W-(used autos)-every one who has one seems to rave about them.
S&W revolvers should be good, but require the use of clips-can also shoot .40S&W.

My first 10mm was a Auto-Ord, sloppy, not very accurate, but not one jam in 3 years. I wanted somthing more accurate so I swapped it for a Glock G20, very accurate, no feed problems, but it hated me and I hated it, the tang would bounce off my thumb nuckle and hurt like heck! I had some LEO friends try to show me some different holds but none seem to work, my hands are just too small for double stack pistols. Well, I took it back and dropped some extra cash down and got the last kimber 10mm in the state, glad I did, never regretted spending that much and I will never go back! :) here it is:

This is the prettiest 10mm I've ever seen. It's also the prettiest Caspian build I've every seen. Maybe I'll own something this nice one day.

gunfan,

Not trying to be an arse, but actually the 10mm didn't come from the FBI in any fashion. It was partly the Brainchild of Col. Jeff Cooper and was developed during the early 80's, and debuted in the Bren Ten in 1983. It wasn't until after exstensive trials that the FBI adopted a 10mm handgun (1076), and that was in 1990.

The .40S&W on the other hand...........

Longtime 10mm Fan here,

Which 10mm ... ?

Well, the Deltas are very nice pistols - if you can find one that's reasonably priced and in either NIB-condition or slightly used but shot very little.

There are a lot of S&W 10XX-series still around, many NIB or nearly so. Even those that are labelled as "LE trade-ins," though they may show slight exterior wear, were typically carried a lot and shot only at qualification time. Best to handle and check out one, if possible, but it usually means the interior and barrel are minty. Ditto on sights. Mags are still widely available and offer 9+1 capacity in a slim, single-stack profile.

Two of the more frequently seen S&W models are the:

and 5" 1006

Colt or S&W

Being afflicted with the 10mm disease, I would have to recommend the Colt Delta Elite first. Very nice pistols with plenty of options for improvement with the proven 1911 design.

Dan Wesson is also reported to be making the Patriot in 10mm for 2004. That would be a nice gun based on the performance and feedback on their other 1911s.

S&W semis are very nice pistols. I picked up a 1066 that had been sitting on a small gun shops shelf for three-years. Nice pistol and very accurate.

Have heard mixed reviews on the EAA Witnesses, but think I will eventually add one to my 10mm collection. The Witness seems to get poor reviews in the US, but international IPSC competitors are consitently using these psitols to compete and win in world events. Make your own assessment and heed the warnings of other owners. Lots of Witness posts on Pistolsmith.com and CZforum (under cz klone).

Have fun!

Dear 2x tap:

No offense taken. None at all. The only reason that I had mentioned the F.B.I.'s involvement with the cartridge, was that their initial acceptance is what inspired the 10mm's primary "splash" in the realm of "civilian pistoldom."

I believe that it was a big mistake for the Bureau to switch to the .40 "short and weak" in order to obtain an increase in capacity. I'm certain that we, as knowledgeable shooters, agree that volume of fire cannnot make up for poor marksmanship.

That said, I believe that the engineering of the .40 G&A was the genesis of the 10mm Automatic. Irving Stone was a co-engineer in this particular project. This was done, I believe, in 1972.

When was it stated that the bureau switched to the .40 short and weak for increased capacity? As I remember, their agents couldn't handle the recoil of the 10. In fact my buddy's brother is an agent; he got one of the 10s on the cheap when they were turned in.

Just bought a S&W model 610 and a S&W model 1076.....can't wait to get them out to the gun range and try them out.............the 610 was NIB, and the 1076 was used with hardly any wear, must have been shot at qualifying and that is about it.............
