I could easily be mistaken. Biden and Team are so overwhelmed with their confused public relations image 'issues' of science, non-science, the esteemed Dr. Faucci's 'sunshine patriot' "medical opinions" while most kids can't attend schools, that Biden needs to Sound bold (if the audience is carefully pre-selected), for a quick applause.
Our new...eh... leader...knows that political calculations prevent him -- just like his Jedi Master Instructor, Obama -- from Touching guns . Biden also has a pen and a phone.
Let's recall that Obama, even Before his 2008 election, had Zero plans to change gun laws, only healthcare legislation to give people something, and give himself a positive legacy. And Biden is "riding" on both Obama's policy themes and some of Trump's policies and actions.
If anything quite dramatic were not politically Very risky (are they not Painfully aware of "their" slim majorities in Congress--and Biden's weak leadership?), then he already would have signed an Exec. Order at least trying to freeze sales of ARs, AKMs, maybe even Mini 14s etc.
The fact that - so far - Biden is afraid (based on His lack of action) to ban just future Pistol Grips, Flash Hiders, "normal-size" mags says something. They can't even risk banning these features on guns sold months from now---without a horrible incident to boost temporary support.
Biden required a very specific school venue/location which would accept his easy, cheap shot remarks. His speech writers/handlers are also trying to keep the radical loony-tunes faction off his back, to limit their public criticism, hence the bold, "politically correct" remarks.
I'm not naiive, just trying to see the real world factors in the bigger picture. >>>>>Please contradict me , but explain how these factors create a different picture.<<<<<<
Senators Joe Manchin and Kristen Sinema, being on the edge of the extremely slim Senate majority, aren't always marching to the same Party Drummer's rhythm. They are a significant factor.

Ignition Overide, it was not , and is not my intent to get into a debate or spitting contest. Your argument is well reasoned, and logical. I hope it's also correct. The central problem is that humans, and especially politicians (or politics itself) are seldom logical. Often, they're quite irrational. As Commander Spock said in one of the STAR TREK movies, "logic is the beginning of wisdom, not the end."
In 1994 President Clinton forced the first assault weapon ban through. It actually was voted down first, but Clinton forced a re-do, and one republican kongresskritter did a Benedict Arnold, and it became law. Then in the next election, republicans took kongress.
The fact that Biden made such a point of passing a gun law in this last campaign, Kamala Harris as well, and both Eric SwalwelL and "Beto" O'Rourke also promised bans, indicate to me 1.) The Dems have not learned the lesson of the first AWB, and 2.) They still are willing to kowtow to a leftwing base. Biden came out again Sunday, the 3rd anniversary of the Parkland shooting, for a gun control agenda. He's wasting energy if he is doing it for show, but then that's almost "part for the course."
Owning the executive office and both houses now, the Dems are well poised to stuff through many laws. Maybe there are enough progun Dems to thwart a AWB .... maybe there's enough who realize those they represent will vote them out if they do pass one they'll cave to them.
Or maybe ..... just maybe .... they believe there's enough support for gun control out in flyover country to get one through, now that ORANGEMAN BAD is out, in the wake of the sad Jan. 6th D. C. "riot."
We shall see, I guess.
