If you could only have one semi auto hand gun?

I would have to go with my Sig P226 Navy.
Wide availability of ammo, accurate and always reliable. It handles better that anything, well maybe a 1911 would be an exception!

It's funny...

I have lots of 1911s, and HiPowers, and a couple of CZ-75s, and currently NO Sigs.
I'd pick the Sig P220 in zero seconds flat if I could only have one auto pistol. Never met a Sig out of the box that didn't at the very least shoot straight. The 220 is a little big for a single stack, but light enough to compensate for its size, and reliable enough to be the ONE pistol in this case.
Maybe I should buy one again. I haven't had a Sig for years.

USP .45

Normally I'd say a 1911, but I feel the USP has a much higher tolerance of getting beat around. Double stack .45 is also pretty nice. The option to carry C1 is also available, which is a big plus.

HK USP .45F or Sig P220. I can not make up my mine which one to give up so I'll hold on this one until I'm forced to make a decision! I'll hide the rest of my stash somewhere!! :D

As much as I love guns like the 1911 and the High Power, if I'm only going to have one pistol I need one that can do it all. For me that gun is the Glock 20, 10mm auto. Stock barrel for self defense against two legged critters, a 6" barrel for hunting or self defense against 4 legged critters and maybe a .40 barrel to take advantage of cheap and plentiful WWB .40 ammo. Since the gun is under $600 and the barrels about $150 each, I'd have more than enough left over for a 22 rimfire conversion for plinking or small game. And still enough left over for half a dozen 10mm magazines and a couple of boxes of Doubletap 10mm ammo.

It's hard to beat the versatility of the Glock 20.

Glock model 22 .40 cal. w/ Cor-Bon 135 grain Pow'r ball for the winter, because of the thick clothing issue . And 180 grain Gold-Dot for the summer.

A factory 1911 with the balance spent on gunsmithing services for some light customization.
DW RZ-10
SA Loaded
Sig GRS
Something like that.

Although I must say my Kimber custom shop Gold Combat stainless was close to that when I bought it and it's been perfect with nothing added.

On the other hand, BlackMajik brings up a good point about the USP45.

Mine would be a 1911...

I have been very impressed with the S&W Commander sized 1911Sc with a Crimson Trace grip on it. I think I may have to pick it over my Kimber Pro or my Custom Caspian if I had to pick only one of them.

Wow, allot of Sig recommendations for sure.

hey, how about the Magnum Research Baby Eagle 9mm by Magnum Research?

Love the looks.
