Which semi-auto pistol would you bet your life on out the box?

:scrutiny:If not given an option: What option do you have?
It's like asking if you were starving and broke into a cabin in the middle of the woods; what would you eat first?

I have and love many different guns, of many different makes. I do not, at present, own a Glock. My experience with Glocks has caused me to believe that they just might be the best out of box gun for durability and reliability, and I vote Glock on that question. If I were to arm myself for a place like Iraq or Afghanistan, I'd pack a Model 21 or 20 if I could obtain sufficient ammo.

I would never trust a my life on a NEW gun out of the factory box, nor would I want to trust any other firearm without firing it first. I would, however, put reasonable trust on certain surplus firearms assuming they are clear of packing grease. My Romanian Tokarev pistol comes to mind, as a quick inspection quickly proved it to be in perfect mechanical condition and these pistols are known for feeding reliably under widely varying conditions and ammo qualities. A trip to the range confirmed this, when it ate a whole box of S&B ammo without a hiccup.

I won't trust my life to any semi auto new or used. For business use I carry a revolver.

Based upon the guns I've had experiences with, my list would include Ruger P-95 & 97, Makarov, Springfield XD in 9mm and 45ACP. I've never had an issue with my Kel-Tec P3-AT, but I've read enough stories from others needing fluff and buff to work right, so that I would not take just any Kel-Tec OOB.

I haven't heard of many difficulties with S&W M&P models or Glocks, but I don't have much experience with either of these. I have a M&P 9c that has been 100% for me, but it's well broken in now. :)

All my CZ-75's, my PCR, and my -83 have been perfect right out of the box. They even eat cheap commie-crap ammo without a hiccup.

XD45 - I have the 4" Service model.... 5500 rounds thru it without ANY failures. Only have cleaned it twice in 2 years. I treat this weapon like crap to be honest. It gets slid around the truck, rained on, muddy, full of **** that would make a billy goat puke and it keeps eating whatever ammo I put thru it. I would carry it into battle, anytime, anywhere.

None. Every gun must be tested before serious use.

Only a baseball bat can be trusted to work first time, every time, if you do your part.

You know, for $200 cash I can probably hire an off-duty cop to spend the night in my house. His on-duty budies will probably spend some time there too, if I supply coffee and donuts all night long.

Yes, the XD is universally reliable out of the box, but you know what, so is a Para P-14, and a Smith & Wesson M&P, and Beretta 92, and a Glock pick a number, and the H&K, and the FN, and just about every other current production auto pistol from the major manufacturers. Nobody is shipping lousy guns like they were as little as ten years ago, and why, because of the internet. The information highway has made our industry accountable, and we have the best guns ever made these days.

Ok I'm late to the thread, but I'm going to go with the S&W M&P9.
Fantastic reliability and I would trust it in a gunfight no matter what.
