Knife vs. Gun at Contact Distance

Tueller assumes that the knife wielding attacker already has the weapon in hand as he approaches, correct? If so, then it's an unfair comparison, simply because he's already got access to his weapon, while mine's still on my hip.

However, if my gun's already in my hand, and the knife-wielder has his weapon, and he starts his assault at 7 yards, the guy is gonna get shot, at least twice, before getting to me.

That's an interesting picture tepin, but ironicaly it illustrates the opposite point. That guy not only survived but killed his attacker. So much for the effectiveness of slashing. Ugly wounds...nothing vital. That picture has made the rounds through various forums and training facilities.

I'm with Gomez & Brownie...at 0-5ft, a empty hand strike to whatever vital exposed area is closest can be delivered in the time it would take to draw. After you injure them with said blow, you can draw if the opportunity is there.

Rearch "Karate master beats pimp" on you tube or google it. You will see a good example of a close quarter strike to the side of the neck that can lay out any size opponent. The guy doing it didn't even hit that hard or commit his body weight. It is also a gross motor skill strike. Do something like that, then draw.

inutero,

That is really only true if skillfully used, and especially with a larger blade. This is an old, old thread. Someone start a new one if you have something new or different to say.
