I just have to express my disgust at the coverage on the shooting that occurred in Columbia Maryland earlier today. It appears, so far, the shooter had two individuals targeted, shot and killed them and then turned his shotgun on himself.

The county executive appeared to be using this event as a commercial to promote the police departments for their swift response and how thorough they were being in clearing the mall of other dangers....I feel the entire event was being sensationalized and no doubt there are folks in Annapolis salivating at the prospect of persuing an opportunity to ban shotguns.

I doubt this incident could have been prevented by any laws or bans of any product and as unfortunate as the entire incident was, it could have happened at a bus stop, private residence, church.....anywhere....it just happened that the shooter knew where these individuals would be at a particular time.

This incident was bound to happen no matter what and if a firearm had not been available then a knife or baseball bat or whatever would have been used. One additional person was hit in the ankle by gunfire which was probably a stray pellet while the remainder of the four injured were hurt by the rush of people trying to escape.

I feel the news and local authorities are trying to portray this as a mall shooting of random people when in reality it is more of a planned, targeted murder.

Nah it was done with a shotgun not an ar-15 or semi auto pistol coverage will be over by monday. Shotguns are one of the highest hanging fruit in the gun debate and not going anywhere for a long time.

I'm getting tired of the police doing that, as well. Active shooter, kills himself.

Police come in and lock the place down and act like they are doing something. Things are bad enough without the police trying to act like prison guards.

^+1 on being armed at all times. Unfortunately, this occurred in Maryland so the chances of anyone getting a carry permit is, uh, well.....you probably stand a better chance of winning the lottery.

Yes, I feel for the families that lost members too. The shooter....not so much. He had choices but picked the wrong one.

If the 2 people are close together, in a crowd

anybody couldd stab one person before that person even realized that they were under attack, and get the other one before they could do anything to stop it, unless the second one was Jet Li, and if the knifeman wanted to and was agile, he could kill a dozen more before the cops showed up. No gun is needed to create a mass killing. This is without poison or pipebombs, mind you.

Well, this isn't going anywhere useful.

As usual, bad people doing bad things with guns isn't our focus here, and the predictably suspect media coverage isn't really either.
