Mexico Retaliates for Border Wall Plan

So what do we do if Vincente unleashes the dogs of war? After we kill his poodles, do we take more Mexican territory for the U.S.? Do we let them cry "uncle!" and go back to our side of the border?
Well, we tried giving them back their nation after we soundly thrashed them in open war, and look what the result is. I say if it comes to war again, this time we KEEP what we conquer and make the land and peoples OURS.

Touche.

I just find it so unlikely that things will go that far that it becomes farcical. I cannot imagine Mexico is suicidal...

I guess I'll toss in the obligatory defense for GWB, a president I worked long and hard to help get elected, and of whom I am immensely proud.

He's still a great president, regardless of the empty-headed sentiments being displayed by some of the more rabid posters in this thread about a problem he inherited from Slick Willy.

If you don't like what he's doing, maybe you should start winning elections.

And who was in before Clinton?

If they truly want a bi-national life they can vote to join the US, accept English as the national language, and live under our constitution. We go to our now southernmost states and route out all the criminals. We absorb their military retiring all the senior officers and running all the enlisted and junior officers back through basic, AIT, OCS and OBC. We make them adhere to our environmental laws. We close off the much shorter, now, southern border.

A great many folks still believe that they did.

Ack! It looks as if the hashish is being passed around. :banghead:
Nah, it's waaaayyyyy past hash. We're into acid territory now.

Mexico is not going to formally declare war against the U.S. They are getting what they want right now. And they are conducting their own slow-motion culture war without having to fire a shot. Economic merger will be the next step in the process. Hey, why fight when you can get your people put on Uncle Sam's Social Security rosters, counting work done in Mexico as part of your requirement?

A real war would be preferable--IF we had a regime here that would institute the massive reforms needed south of the border. I don't see that. McArthur is dead. All I see would be Mexicans being told they could live as they choose to and more massive no-bid infrastructure contracts for the ususal suspects, plus a gargantuan expansion of the welfare state.

I feel that if someone asked me to get back into my old gear to defend our borders...then I and many of my friends would be more than willing to help.

Do I honestly think that somthing will be done about the "threats" ? Nah...

I just feel that we need to ask Tokyo to borrow Godzilla. :what:

Had to interject a bit of humor into this...sorry...

Now...I say build the wall...this country needs to get a little introverted, in my oppinion.

D

"Mexico is not going to bear, it is not going to permit, and it will not allow a stupid thing like this wall," Derbez said.

Good thing we are not building it on the Mexican side of the border then. :neener:

I didn't like the idea of the wall until Mexico started complaining about it. If they think they can dictate what we do our OUR soil, then I've got a news flash!

Mexican illegals can NOT vote in American elections. Legal immigrants will be unaffected by this, and will probably benefit from it!

Now, I'll be happy to help build the wall. They could keep the costs down by using volunteer labor. I think there would be plenty willing to help build that sucker :D

Fernando Robledo, 42, of the western state of Zacatecas, says the proposals could stem migration and disrupt families by breaking cross- border ties.
............................
"We learned to believe in the United States. We have a binational life," he said of Zacatecas, a state that has been sending migrants north for more than a century......................

I know that quote's been highlighted in the other thread, but I cannot emphasize enough how that one quotation defines the absolute problem in a nutshell. That perception of a borderless commingling is entrenched with a great majority of our neighbors to the south.

One other note - I didn't post in the other thread because the discussion has dropped to some "kill them all" lowest denominator and I refuse to participate in anything associated with that line of reasoning. If this thread goes the same way, I'll gladly erase this post.

they are going to turn the international community against the plan? Why would the international community care, and how can anyone tell a sovereign nation they can't secure their borders? Much of Europe is MUCH more strict about not allowing foreign immigration to their countries--not that that would stop them from criticising us of course.

Personally its not a big issue for me given where I live, but the people out there seem to get really perturbed about it so its obviously a big deal to them.

"If people in the U.S. and Canada had an accurate view of the success of democracy, political stability and economic prosperity in Mexico, it would improve their views on specific bilateral issues like immigration and border security," Rob Allyn, president of the PR firm, told The Associated Press Tuesday.

Apparently my unenlightened view of Mexico's economic prosperity is skewed by the direction the workers are headed.

Who says "kill 'em all?"

I don't think that's the great fear. Hey, they are being indulged, even subsidized, not killed.

I think we should be worrying about their killing us, first economically, then culturally, then literally.

I'll stand on my remarks about phoney compassion being our undoing.

What bothers me here is the referral to "a growing tide of anti-immigrant sentiment" in the US.

I see a lot of anti-illegal immigration sentiment. Most of the folks that I know don't really care about legal immigration.

Or, we could just kill them all, take the land, and re-populate it with Americans.

Think of it, Mexicans become no more, and we create 6 little Texas-like states. They wouldn't go let-wing because left-wingers wouldn't have that adventurous spirit. Only people who like places like Texas, or Montana would head down.

Cheap (or profitable) and efficient. It would be the best war we ever got involved in.

Really, I just don't know how to respond. I'm aghast.

Paging General Custer, General George Armstrong Custer...

I mean, after the hardcore "Manifest Destiny" stuff let go earlier in the thread, now we have an outright plan for "re-population" and annexation?

You know, I've been sparing with, by appearances, some hardcore military types here for a few weeks now. We do get heated, but they're not stupid men nor do they consider the sorts of things espoused here. In sum, they and I are nowhere close to the line in terms of driving each other off the deep end.

This garbage, however, there are not enough "emoticons".

I'm stepping away from the computer before I let loose with a diatribe that involves folks' relatives and gets me banned...
