I believe we should build the wall, and then have it manned with our military armed to the teeth!!! Make it patrolled to the extent that not so much as a cockroach could make it across without getting a boot-heel or a Humvee tire print squished into it. Last year alone, over 20,000 OTM ( other than mexicans ) were stopped, and then many released. Here in Iowa this summer a police officer stopped a van with 9 mexicans in it. All were illegal. INS was contacted. They asked how many were caught. When the officer advised INS "9", he was told to let them go. The INS would not even get involved unless there were ten or more. So the officer had to let the 9 amigos go on their merry way. Our troops should be here, protecting our south border, not in Iraq, becoming targets of opportunity. Maybe Venezuala (?) will declare war on Mexico and our problems will self destruct. In the mean while, we are probably preparing for the war with Iran. Good thing the U.S. in August completed its' "warehouse complex; (aka: military base) in Israel, the size of which is 25 square miles. Plenty big enough for storing all sorts of "toys for bad boys". Could this be the reason why we are seeing so many bases shut down here in the U.S.? Sorry for getting off on a rabbit trail about the mid east. If we here on the Highroad.org can see the need of a wall for the south border, then why can't our elected officials in Washington D.C.??? I get so mad when I think about it, I could spit!!!:banghead: I love my country and those in uniform who have volunteered to protect it, but I despise the fools who are in power and calling the shots. One day soon we are going to wish to God we had our troops home, but then it will be too late. Then we will have the opportunity to see who the real American patriots are. There is a difference between legal and illegal immigration. However, at this point in time, considering the number of immigrants, legal and otherwise, we have plenty on our plate as a nation. It's time for a moratorium on *all* immigration for a few years until we sort our immigration problems out.

Chertoff says the National Guard isn't "trained" for the job. What he means, of course, is that there is no way .gov is going to permit force as a deterrent. The idea of capturing a million people a year and either incarcerating them or deporting them is ludicrous. We'd have to be building detention facilities non-stop. But then, hey, L.A. United School District plans to build 150 schools by 2012, they say. I'll let you guess who their "customers" will be.

the term "illegal immigrant" is confusing..it blurs the line between legal & illegal ... to me..an immigrant is coming here to be an american...not just come here for a job and live in isolated in shanty towns ( parts of Los Angeles are like this) never want to be a citizen, learn english, etc.. to me this is an illegal alien..not an immigrant..

this issue will be a political football for may years & administrations to come..the influx will not be curtailed and many more illegal aliens from central & south america will cross our southern border (whats left of it-why should mexico alone get rich from this behaviour-mexico largest income source is money sent back home from legal immigrants & illegal aliens-some claim the figure to be as high as $14 billion plus a year)

If that's your scenario--and I'm not saying I necessarily disagree with it--this nation is doomed. You can forget any semblance of the country originally envisioned by the Founding Fathers. Not only does half of Mexico want to live here, a big chunk of South America does too--and those are just the countries that could walk here. No doubt the Chinese and Indians will become major illegal immigrant players in time.

Either we find a way to "normalize" the flow or it's over.

Given the current trends I expect a lot of Americans to be looking for new worlds to migrate to. Fight fire with fire. The Caribbean? New Zealand?

The problem is that this problem has become a cancer. Illegal immigration is no longer "local." It's everywhere. That doesn't call for flight--I think it would be ignoble to desert our nation and our legacy--but it does call for a systemic response to the problem. So far I'm not seeing much of that, though maybe there are few serious rumblings.

Four ideas.
First - best. Iraquify Mexico. Go in, beat the snot out of everyone ruling anything, rebuild thier system from the ground up, back out in a few years. Great thing is, leave/liberty for the troops could still be in the states...

Second - hard line action, walls, increased militarized patrols, illegals caught and prosecuted for criminal entry, etc. Will require more money than an invasion, wil require mre and more prisons. Our Mexican National population in prison is growing by leaps and bounds, and NONE of our inmates are here on immigration charges. All are hard core criminals, who cross the border to rape, pillage and kill.

Three - most fun. Get a couple of old crusie ships, strip off the fancy schmacy stuff, make it a bare bones substinance people hauler, and take a load to fr*nce as fast as they can turn around. Tell 'em it's our way helping them with thier high Muslim population problem...just ship all illegals to fr*nce as fast as you can, as cheap as you can...


Four - most effective for long term use, cheapest, most ruthless.
Every illegal immigrant caught in the US is implanted with an RFID chip, then kicked back across the border. If caught again, and the RFID chip is found by a reader, the alien is executed as a spy in time of war. Or enemy combatant, invading in mufti, whichever helps you sleep at night.
