OK, now the .45 GAP has the look of being successful, Springfield is making the XD in it, the major ammo companies have a bunch of loads out. So you just know what is coming, don't you?

The .40 S&W was necked down to the .357 SIG, the .380 was necked down to the .32 NAA, the .45 ACP was necked down to the .400 CorBon, so I predict that the .45 GAP will be necked down to .40 caliber. And since .400 CorBon is taken, it will just have to be called the .400 Bart, for obvious reasons.

Finally, eternal name recognition.

I want a .22 LR cartridge necked up to .45.

Imagine being able to carry .45 cablier rounds in a .22 sized gun.

Yeah, that's what I want.

I'll call it the .45 THR.

I think we'll see a bigger rimfire cartridge than the .22 Magnum in the future. Maybe something along the lines of a 22 Hornet/.223 Rem sized cartridge.

I also think that someone will come out with a very short and fat .40 caliber center fire cartridge for rifles.

Someone still has to do something with the much neglected big cartridges. I thought the .577 Tyranosaurus (sp) and .600 Nitro Express would be the be all do all of the really big cartridges, but someone will come out with something even biger and badder.

Lastly, now that there are plastic (Polymer) cased center fire rifle cartridges out there I believe we will see a lot more of this new trend. Maybe plastic cased .45 ACP's.

But what I'd like to see is someone play around with putting a .35 caliber bullet in a case the size of a 7.62x39mm.

How about a 500 S&W shortened and necked down to .45 and launched out of a 1911 platform? Coonan? MRI?

450 S&W magnum will be next, commercially anyway. 500 necked 45 and velocities that are just plain silly requiring NEW bullet designs to be worthwhile.

Dang, pauli! I'm just trying to imagine the looks of a .17 BMG! Make it a 250 grain bullet about 6 inches long and it might penetrate the M1's armor after all!:scrutiny:

/me waits for the 17bmg...
When that catches on, I'm going into the barrel-making business. ;)

Fire three rounds to sight in? Replace barrel. Which requires another sight in. :p

WonderNine, that's a shame too because I think those are two of the neatest and most worthy cartridges around. :(

well, i'd like to see .500-17 salvo; that means multiple fin-stabilised .17 caliber darts in .500SW case; ultimate long range rat gun ;)
