'the original unanimous consent agreement"

The one where McConnell obtained unanimous consent from, "Me, myself, and I". God, don't ANY of those Senators have the balls to object to "unanimous" consent being obtained from an empty room? I wonder if we could get Ron Paul to run for the Senate?

Sen. Levin (edited) proposing an amendment that allows lawsuits to continue in cases of gross negligence where the behavior was a proximate cause of death.

Not sure who proposed it as they are still wrangling over whether it can be proposed - Quorum call to work out the procedural issues.

O.K. folks. In your next e-mail (or whatever) to a Senator(s) point out that if lawsuits bankrupt the U.S. handgun (or firearms) industry we will have to obtain guns for our law enforcement and military from foreign suppliers - who may or may not be willing to supply our needs. Without domestic suppliers we won't have a choice.

What about Glock, SIG, Beretta, etc. who have U.S. factories? If they keep getting hit by lawsuits (as they are now) they might close their U.S. operations and supply product from off-shore ..... but only on their own terms. After all, the object of being in business is to make money. Without competition from American makers they can charge Uncle Sam whatever they want.

OK, they are going to set aside the Levin Amendment to discuss the Warner Amendment, which somehow relates to Levin, and then go back to discussing the Levin Amendment - no suggestion of a vote yet.

Warner amendment proposes amendment to give medical industry same protections offered under S.1805... starts talking about how the gun industry has a narrow following, proceeds to tell about how much he loves guns and how he has one from when he was a kid (why is this almost always a sign some anti-gun legislation is going to be proposed?)...

Give to the medical profession such benefits that the Senate is now considering giving to a very narrow segment of our industry, the gun industry.

Pointing out that FN has contract for many military weapons, points out H&K contract and says that the military isn't using domestic gun industry anyway so this doesn't affect national security

So did he just say?

We don't care about American businesses because we prefer to get what we need from NATO?

The government is above the people and would be exempt from whatever laws they impose on us.

We should trust our national security to offshore interests, with agendas of their own?

What a flaming idiot!:banghead:

Or maybe I'm just being too harsh.

Senator Levin back up to discuss his amendment - starts talking about the DC sniper victims.

Blaming Bushmaster for continuing to sell guns to Bullseye even though ATF audits had shown missing guns. Charges this is gross negligence that his bill would address.

Levin now blaming Kahr Inc. for hiring employee who was crack addict and thief who stole a gun that ended up killing somebody.

Says Kahr Inc. is to blame for not conducting background checks and utilizing a more compex inventory system as well as installing metal detectors, x-rays, and security cameras.

Hey, back to that gun lock on a fire extinguisher thing. Someone (maybe a bunch of us) should call in this suggestion to Craig, right now. Wouldn't it be cool if we watched him on C-Span actually holding up a gunlocked extinguisher?--this would be tit for tat on the cheap theatrics Boxer and Feinstein pulled off carrying "assault weapons" onto the Senate floor.

Other option (that had already been suggested): national mail Boxer our gunlocks day.

She is so anti that nothing like this could possibly make her more anti. If she got a couple thousand gun locks in the mail one day with little messages like "something for your big mouth...a dangerous weapon" or "a gunlock so your brain stops going off half cocked", I think it would be the appropriate SCREW YOU that she deserves.

Further...

I think Craig and the rest should be prepared to trot in some bazooka's, grenades and other even more obviously ridiculous things to expose the stupidity of Feinstein and Boxer the next time they do such a thing (at the same time). Now that would be funny.
;)

When will Byrd finally just give up and retire?

Good thing I wasn't the acting President when he said to be more alert. I'd give him a reason to be alert.

He asked for four more minutes.

He has talked about land mines the whole time, and is now stepping down.

Harry Reid D-Nevada wants to move on to morning buisness.

Robert Byrd D-something wants the floor, he is talking to Reid.

"we will need three to four hours on monday for feisntein" - I think that is what Reid said.

Carl Levin D-Michigan is talking about gun dealers and lawsuits.

Carl is talking about straw purchases and dealers.

"we are going to immunize their own reckless behavior unless you can prove thier neglagence." - close to what was said

He is saying police oppose it. (not true)

"this bill would deprive them of their of their basic right to prove their case in a court of law"

"according to a recent report 47% of crime guns can be traced back to 1% of dealers."

Talking about class action suits and this bill.

"this bill seeks to impose a federal tort regeim."

"unless someone else is injured, and unless that plantiff can show that the conduct was illegal..." talks about it is a radical departure from normal.

"my amendment will give us the opurtunity to give amunity..." to something or other about opoximite immunity.

He steps down.

Launtenburg is up (D-NJ), proposing an emendment. Does not want it read.

Terrorist aprehention amendment. Co sponsored by DeWine.

I has to do with weapon purchases.

He has a fancy light blue chart.

He is saying Terrorists buy from gun stores, not illegally.

"like the .50 caliber assault rifle that can shoot down a helicopter"

"6 inches of steel plating and has the range of a mile"

"it can also carry an indisindiary round"

"the DOJ requires that the FBI prove that terrorists should not be allowed to buy a gun"

"they have three days for the FBI to prove they should not be able to buy."

Now he wants to remove innocent until proven guilty from the DOJ for suspected terrorists.

His amendment does that.

1st Lautenberg amendment is set aside.

He is showing his chart to how the Nics and gun checks works when a suspect goes to buy a gun. (note picture of AR-15 as gun)

2633, does not want it read.

"it is to protect our most prescious recource, our children"

he is blamming the NRA and gun dealers for some supposed harm involving terrosts to children.

"the rights of sniper victims and police offciers"

"are we now going after children" - something like that

This is a huge emotional for the children speech.

LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE ! .....

My gawd Lautenberg just said a 50 calibur assult weapon can penetrate 6" of steel :banghead:

whatever !

Bob Adams

Lautenberg just said the Dept of Homeland Security wants people on the terrorist watchlist to be barred from buying guns. What happened to innocent until proven guilty? :uhoh:

Loudinbutt just said "... 50 caliber assault weapon that can take down a helicopter." This is too much, I can't watch anymore!

David

what exactly is a "terrorist." Just because it means one thing today doesn't mean it could be different tomorrow.

Oh boy, now he's invoking the "children" concept. I can't wait for him to drop in the phrase "common sense."

Seawolf,

Exactly!!!

Next year they may consider all Christians terrorists, or all Jews to be terrorists.

Or anyone who posts on a gunboard to be a terrorist.

I.G.B.

"how can we be about the children, the children's families"

CDC stats on children injuries.

1,500 killed in accidents. (missed the time span)

"Children in our country are at more risk to gun accidents than 15 other indrialised countries." - those countries do not *HAVE* guns!

more for the children stuff

he steps down

Robert Byrd is up D- west virginia

Talking about elections. SS, health care.

He is suggesting that buyers have to prove they are permitted ot buy guns, rather than NICBC simply being used to reject unqualified buyers.

This is what boston T. party was talking about when he noted that NICBC (national instant criminal background check) has become NICS (national instant check system), thus expanding from denying criminals, to denying other classes. Tax resisters, political activists, people who hang out on gun discussion boards...

How about the state department quit issuing visas to terrorists, huh??? Then we wouldn't have to resort to treating citizens like criminals.
