Gun trafficker is another undefined word. I bet half the people on this board are gun traffickers according to Lautenberg. After all, who needs to buy 10 guns in one month?

I promised myself that I would watch this, but I can't. I'm sorry friends, but I'm going to the gunshop. I have some purchases to make. I don't have the money and when my wife gets back she's going to nova, but I'm going to by 50 gunlocks and every "50 caliber assault weapon" I can find.

gruven: Many of the antis over the last few days have said that buying 12 at a time is rediculous and obviously a crime. They were talking some bad guy who was smoking pot that bought 12 hand guns, IIRC.

Robert Burd D- WV is talking about the economy still.

He is talking about the working man.

"working with their hands! in many instances."

Now he is going on about when there was no SS, and coal mines.

Talking about coal miners growing old early due to hard work.

This guy keeps acting like a grandpa telling stories to his grandchildren.

Moparmike: He has permission.

Robert Byrd Thinks SS is the best thing that ever happened.

Two words big guy. Retirement Fund.

Now he is going into his life story and how wonderful it was when he first saw SS checks.

He went through taxes, promises, and SS.

Now it is colleges. Drug prices. Senior citizens.

"old folks! senior citizens, I can call them that because I am one of them, thank god"

He is still going...

"to limit debate"
"those people out there, watching through the electronic lenses"
"we're in danger of seeing a mushroom cloud, but non have been found"
"until we are white and blue and black in the face, they will say they are still out there" - something like that

He is talking about terrorism and the war.

The budget, and the war in iraq.

Saftey nets, the poor.

He yeilds and steps down.

700 posts, 161 in the last week.

Sorry gruven, I missed it. I think he said his mom got the SS check, so I doubt it.

Kent Conrad D-North Dakota is up.

He is on the same topic.

Both Conrad and Byrd are complimenting each other back and forth for about a minute each. Going on and on about how smart, and great other person is. They need to get a room.

Talking about SS, and the economy...

"the top 1% got 33% of the benefits of the tax cuts, being paid from ss" - this guy needs a calculator
"this is class warfare"
"take from the many, and give to the few" - you mean, take a lot from the few, give back less to the few. Take a little from the many, give back a disproportionate amount back that is a higher % than the rich got back to the many.

Dustin's comment: The rich pay a higher %, but get a lower % back. They get screwed twice. Sure the rich get more back, they paid more than everyone else combined.

If I could get a refund of my SS contributions (with the understanding I wouldn't receive any benefits) I would do it.

I wouldn't even require any interest on my payments.

In fact, If they'd just cancel my future payments, I'd forgo the benefits...

Let's end this pyramid scheme. Let's stop bribing the people with their own money.

In fact, If they'd just cancel my future payments, I'd forgo the benefits...
I would sign up in a heart beat. Keep the money, just leave me alone!

I have a question. Are the tax cuts even a drop in the bucket compared to the debt and downward plung we are in?

He yielded the floor.

quroum call.

Communication Style

Hey all-

I'm new to this board, but I've been lurking around THR for some time ...

I read something here that inspired me to join. While Sen Conrad (D-ND) is yacking about social security, I urge those of you who haven't, read the float entitled "The End of Gun Control" here

http://thehighroad.org/showthread.php?threadid=67578

As you watch this debate, watch how the prohibitionists appeal to emotion, in open defiance of logic and common sense. And it works! When Sen. Lautenberg says "do it for the children" we sneer. But it works. Someone (sorry, don't remember who) on this forum has a signature that says something like "The left sorely needs a new playbook. Fortunately for us they don't have one." They don't need one! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

Reed (D-RI) is an elitist weasel. But if you were not sensitized to his lies, he would appear reasonable and prudent. This is what we need to counter, not ideas. The left doesn't have ideas, they have feelings.

Oh, and see the sig ...

Thanks for listening,

Quorum call.

In a minute, more classical music. I vote for Holst, "Mars, Bringer of War."

I wish I could watch all this unfold at home, but fortunatly for me, you guys are doing a great job of keeping us at work informed.

Anyone else have this sinking feeling as we watch the politicians throw our rights away?

Great Awakening

fix:

I hope it is a great awakening for lots of people. But I don't think one Senate debate, even if the Scary Gun Ban is involved, will wake up those who can't be bothered. Appealing to their emotions, a la the left, just long enough to get them to think, might truly open their eyes.

All of us here know we are right. We've got to convince people, from the woman on the street to our nations Legislators, who are too busy, ignorant, or intellectually lazy to see what's going on. We'll never convince the hard core leftist extremist, but we need to effectively expose them for what they are.

Ugh, I could not log on or post. Is there a traffic jam on the high road, or is it just me?

Tom Markin D-Iowa is going on about the situation Hiata.

Harkin (D-IA) is demanding that we send troops to Haiti! Do you want to use US armed forces for nation building, or don't you. You can't have it both ways!

Subtly reinforcing, all the while, that the evil men in Haiti are the "men with the guns."

Masterful. Hateful.

316SS

Just now, Harkin says, paraphrasing: "Is the only way to get anything done to take up a gun? To kill people?"

He's not even debating the Gun Liability Bill, but he is! Masterful. Hateful.

"Emboldening the gunmen and the thugs" in Haiti. "They think we are on the side of the gunmen." Gunmen gunmen gunmen thugs gunmen terrorizing killing policemen well equipped big weapons AAAAARRRRGH!

Now talking race issues in Haiti. No shame. But a master. Evil genius, if you will.
