Woof, welcome. (At least I think you're new to the club; haven't updated the roster in a while ...).
That's an excellent idea about "used 336 for 'dummies' ". I'm not capable of it myself, but I'm betting others are, and hopefully they'll teach us all a few things.
Z_, I'm thinking ghost rings for the '894C. I may even see if the ones I have for the 336 will fit (I think someone said they will) since I'm not sure if I'm fully happy with them on the 336. (They're going to be backups anyway since I plan to scope it when I get the money. {New tires for the truck must come first ...})
But, I'm also tempted to try out a set of skinners on the 1894C. I really like the way they look, and with that screw out aperture, could be used for a variety of situations. I definitely positively will not scope it.

This 336 seems to like the 170's better though.
You know,
Mo, I think I've read (either in this or some other THR thread) that most 336's seem to like the 170's best. As soon as I get sighting set up better, I'm going to collect some better data about mine, too.
I think it'd also be fun to sponsor a "336 club" poll in rifle country to see what rnds by various manufacturers are favored in 336's. We did that over in the 642 club about rnds for J-frame snubbies, and gathered some interesting data.
We could make a list here in the club house of all the available rnds, then I can put them into a poll posted into rifle country. (I think the max number of items in a poll is 16.)
So, let's start listing .30-30 ammo. I suggest this format or something similar (for example):
Federal PowerShok 150 gr soft point
Where do I sign up for the 1894 club?
You know, I'm thinking it's about time we had one ...
