Yes BAMF,
Our leader Nem. has a set of those sights so PM him and maybe he can steer you in the right direction. The only advice I can give you is return the XS sights and order a set of Skinner Sights. Dr. Skinner sights fit my 336 exactly with the factory holes.

B.A.M.F, give XS a call on Monday. They are awesome folks, very helpful.

There are several sets of XS sights for 336, depending on its age. They can ask you questions over the phone to decide which ones are right. Just have a ruler handy when you call, and it may help if you know at least approximately when your rifle was produced. Then, it'll be a matter of sending back the ones that don't fit to them, and they'll ship you out what you need. I speak from experience. It was fast and painless, and cost only a tiny bit of postal.

By the way, I agree with your assessment of the rifle, also. These are indeed awesome rifles.

The rifle is brand new(within 3 months) so it might have been a set of older sights. I went to another gunshop to pick up a williams reciever sight instead, but the guy told me to try a bunch of different types. appartantly its common.

Hello,
"New Member" but middle aged with firearms. My first "serious" rifle was a 70's era 336. Really wasn't keen with the flip up/down rear leaf sight. Removed that and added a Williams receiver "peep" sight. Really works well, but it has been years since I've shot it and it ended up in the back of the safe.
When I return from overseas, I'm heading to the range to blow off about 150rounds of 25 year old ammo. I'm going to blast away, quickly reload, and do it again. That should be a hoot! When done, I'll clean the gun well, replace the magazine spring and put it in the front of the safe where it belongs.

New 336W 30-30.
Nothing special just factory stock and added the nylon shell holder to the stock.

First time to the range shot about 2" 3 shot groups with the 170 CL with the factory sights. 100yds.

I think I am hooked.
Now I am looking a receiver sights

Just joined the 336 club with a new model C in 30.30 purchased today. This joins my 1894C and Model 60 (first gun I've owned). Haven't been to the range with it yet, but looking forward to it. Bought some LEVERevolution ammo for it. Based on my experiences with the 1894C, I'm sure I'm going to like this gun.

yeah my dad didn't know what he was buying. He was told by my grandmother that her friends neighbor was selling a deer gun at a yard sale. He needed one sonce we only had shotguns and went to get it. The gun still had the warning stickers on it.

He brought it home and put it away until deer season. When deer season came we took it and my shotgun upnorth. He put me in a spot and walked across a hill. I could see him messing with it. shortly after he walked back over to me and said" I have to go back to the store" he thought it was a 30-30. He returned later with the correct .35's. No deer were seen that weekend so I loaded it up and blasted away at a target. Talk about a fun rifle. a year later I finished off the box. What an accurate gun! That was maybe 8 years ago...

Two years ago I took it to the range and shot 20 more rounds. It had more recoil than I remembered. But it brought a lot of attention..

I don't think it will see much use now. I live in Indiana and I can't use it for deer. Going back to Michigan to use it will not happen(130.00 for a nonresident deer tag).

I am trying to talk my brother and father into a hog hunt...maybe I can get me a big hog with it one day.

Count me in, after a lot of searching I found a circa-1983 336 about 1-1/2 mo. ago and stumbled onto another one mfg'd in 1975 just yesterday - both in very, very good condition. Paid $395 for the 1983 and $275 for the '75 - not "steals" by any means, but then that's not what I was looking to do. I just wanted a couple of lever action 30-30's in good shape for "usin'/fun" (+ pretty good SHTF guns) and also to hang on the custom black walnut gun rack I ordered for my western style (because that's where I grew up and still live) home office.

This is wide open, long-range hunting country for deer, elk, coyotes, etc. - so for the most part these aren't hunting rifles (that's what my .300 WinMag, .270 Win and 22-250 are for) - but I really wanted to add a couple of lever actions to the mix, and thanks to the folks on this forum I learned enough to decide what they should be.

as hunting weapons yet, though,

I just got a Marlin 336XLR in 30/30 about a month ago. It would have never crossed my mind to get one but it was an oral auction item (along with a Ruger Super Blackhawk) at a local fundraiser and well I just couldn't pass up a nice pair of stainless guns especially when the money was for a good cause.

Sweet gun, I can hardly wait to try it out on deer next year.

jlacy: a note on that nylon butt cuff, if you leave it on too long it can dull the finish on your stock.

Elgin: as Nem alluded to, the LeverEvolution ammo adds significant range to the lever gun. The .30-30 is still about a 200+ yard rifle, but the new 308 Marlins will get you out there a bit further. It's not quite equivalent to the .308Win. And the XLR rifles are designed to get the most out of the powders used in the LE cartridges.

Didn't mean to discount or discredit the 30-30 as a viable hunting cartridge, here or anyplace else - a whole lot of deer have been killed in this country with 30-30s and .300 Savages over the years, that's for sure. Not so many these days, but that has more to do with the numerous options available than with the effectiveness of the 30-30. Also no doubt the Leverevolution ammo significantly extends the range and usefulness of the caliber.

You are a wise person in at least two ways:
1) you own a 336, and
2) you are paying it off before moving to the next one.
(Debt is eating many people in our culture; don't fall prey.)

I owned a CZ 452 Style.

Fine rifle.

But the bolt action didn't work for me
(bein' a lever guy, and all).

Although the accuracy is there,
I didn't find it more accurate than my 39
(even though I haven't had the chance
to get real familiar with the 39 yet).

And, the action cycle of the bolt was
about a week slower than a lever.

So, I sold the 452 and
bought a 39 with the proceeds.

Damn, pricier than I thought!

My ejector fell out the first time cleaning the gun. I cannot for the life of me find it in my gun room.

Is it at all possible it slipped down into the action of the gun somewhere? I did get everything re-assembled and it cycles fine, there's just no ejector in place.

If you shake the rifle, does it rattle?

I suppose that piece could be in there, but it's unlikely.

There's not a lot of wasted room and a loose piece rattling around in there would surely jam things up.

No, I don't hear it and I couldn't find it when using a bore light to poke around.

Seems ejectors are about $8 at Midway for a 'standard' one. Do I really need the nicer one from Brownells?
