What are your Gun Goals for 2023?

Deer rifle. Don’t really care how. My old .270 is shot out and needs rebarrelled. I have tried everything I know to try to get it to shoot again but it’s just gone. With 150 gr bullets it kinda holds a group to 200 yards but it’s a foot or so at 200. At 100 yards it’s a 4 inch gun. Used to be I could stack shots using it. I had a load worked up for it that was hot as can be but shot like a dream. I guess I ate the barrel up with those.
I have a 6.8 ar that I have hunted with some but it’s heavy. My 30-30 is nice for brush but I want a bean field rifle. I may just do something in the way of a contender barrel and stock setup. I already have the frame, and stock but no 16+” barrels suitable for deer. I could SBR a frame and call it a day I guess.

If you can rebore to .284, a 280 AI would be a somewhat simple and neat conversion.

I have a grail gun that I have been dreaming of for a few years now. I'm not sure exactly what I want. I have posted a few times on thr about a wilderness sidearm. I camp, hunt, hike, and fish
I want a formidable sidearm for big four-legged critters.
I have been considering:
S&W 629
Bisley vaquero 44mag 4⅝
Bisley Blackhawk 45colt/45acp 4⅝
Redhawk 45colt/ 45acp
Railed 1911 45acp
Railed 1911 10mm
I am also on the lookout for a nice BBQ gun.
Something like a S&W 36 or a colt detective with a little bling. Maybe some engraving and unique grips..

Can't go wrong with a 44 magnum I all ways took one of my hounds with me too bears can be sneaky on humans but they don't fool a dog.

My collection is complete at this point, so I'll just keep on enjoying/carrying/shooting what I have. Maybe a flintlock PA long rifle, or if S&W comes out with a reliable 10+1 pocket 380 I'll get that, but otherwise I'm content.

I'll just be happy if everything I currently, legally own today is still legal to own by the end of 2023. :uhoh:

Ya, no kidding. Looks like State-level dems are doing everything they can to force the supreme courts hand.

I hope they’re holding aces over kings when they lay those cards down, the idiotic law parade needs to be stopped once and for all.

Stay safe.

My goal for 2023 is to use and enjoy what I already have and to not buy any overpriced guns, ammunition or reloading components. If the market is still like this this time next year, that will be my 2024 goal as well. No more.

Given what inflation has done to everything else in this economy +25-35% increase across the board, and with our Fed's monetary policies I don't see it getting better anytime soon.

I will say that primers are still selling for well above $30 + 30% inflation. They should be selling somewhere around $40-45/1000. But other than that most of the ammo and other components sadly is falling in that 25-35% inflated pricing that we've all seen at the grocery store, lumber store, etc.

I know it sucks but one needs to step back and analyze what is the new norm, whether we like it, can afford it or not. I've been trying to analyze my spending that when it gets below what I know it sold for +20-30% then I consider it a buy at this point in time. This is why I'm still not buying primers unless I absolutely have to have them. Right now I've got enough primers to last quite a while except for maybe small rifle magnums, need another 1000 of them.

I think there's more to it than simple inflation. I think we're being taken advantage of by vista outdoors, we reloaders especially. They want us to be dependent on them for all of our ammo needs and they have created artificial bottle necks to facilitate this. The sport has done nothing but go to hell since they started taking over everything. I see their stock is down almost 50% year to date and all I have to say about that is good good good and I hope they go OOB soon.

Financial adviser and I had a discussion about vista recently. There may be a sizable to me but drop-in-the-bucket to them but of stock in the near future. We are 2 years out from Biden-Desantis election antics so buying at a deflated current rate seems less of a gamble than normal. I’m young enough to recover from that hit to my retirement if it were to happen. Seems a better buy than other shooting sports stocks. Gun makers stocks are pretty much all losers right now.

Maintain the herd. If my 3 boys were settled into their long time homes I’d be tickled pink to divy up 98% of them. Maybe a couple more years.

I'm glad I didn't listen to the people saying this market was a buying opportunity a month ago. Have you seen it today? The whole market seems like a dead cat bouncing down a flight of stairs if you get my meaning. These idiots can't even agree that the U.S. is in a recession until it's a year past us (and a new administration is in place probably). Honestly, Vista outdoors is the least of my concerns all in and all and I was just ranting because the high price of components ticks me off.

Hitting any type of 'fun' targets, in case I die with no gradual warning about a medical condition .

Not kidding one bit. How much time do you Know that You have left? :scrutiny:

My guns and targets are never to fulfill some agenda dictated by fashion or fad. No regrets.

CZ-83, CZ ‘PCR’, VZ-58, PTR-91. Oh no, maybe the ATF actually Knows that I bought guns at an FFL?! Let's keep it a secret.........:D

Get that starter target 45 ACP, a detachable magazine 22 rifle, and set up my Keltec S2K the way I want. Of course I have to figure out what that is.

Mostly to shoot between 5 -10k rounds this year, between rimfire and Centerfire rifle and handgun. Buy some primers if the price drops enough. Ditto on ammo. Get qualified to be a range officer at out local gun range.

1.) More and more training and more and more competition.

This year, I spent about 10% of my income on training, range & match fees, and ammo. I hope to match that plus inflation next year. Possibly go to Gunsite or Thunder Ranch for carbine or shotgun. Improve my Service Rifle classification and attain some points toward Distinguished badge. Spend a lot more time on dry fire practice this winter. (i.e. now.)

2.) Have a more successful hunting year in the fall. (But that really has nothing to do with gun or shooting.

No more additional guns. Just keep buying or reloading, and then expending, ammo.

I'll add a follow-up to the OP's question:

What are some obstacles that may hold you back from accomplishing your 2023 shooting goals?

For me: Paying off debt. Increasing investments for the future. Health issues that incur more costs. Unexpected expenses. (Which happen so frequently that they may as well be expected expenses.)

As much I enjoy training, competing, and hunting, I probably have it a little too high on my list of priorities to call myself a responsible adult.
