What are your Gun Goals for 2023?

I’d second what seems to be a common theme of using what you have rather than buying more. I really wish I had spent money on hunting trips instead of guns. Now I’m 72 and the days of a bear or elk hunt have passed, as have all the guns that I sold off. Now I can afford a dozen trips but physically can’t do them

Anyway, I have five acres and need to get my 100 yard range set up here on my land

Well I must have bought a dozen guns in 2022, so for 2023, maybe just one. Something with a metal frame, hammer, maybe 9mm. CZ75, EAA High Power, . . .

Still on a downsizing campaign but there's no hurry. Sold off most of the safe queens and have an old Stevens 820B 12 ga. that will go to the auction this coming year. Getting down to guns that I enjoy shooting. The new concept is to just have guns that I use. What a novel idea.

Load more, shoot more. Seems to be a pretty common trend here. My collection is pretty much where I want it, other than a few modifications/repairs that I want to get caught up on.

Although, maybe, just maybe, this will be the year I build a flintlock rifle. That has been a dream since I was a youngster.

I need to buy 2 or 3 safes. Maybe finally get a suppressor or 2 finally. I only want a few more lever actions in my collection so maybe I should finish that off as well

Kind of like the New Years resolution to loose weight, I need to join a club and shoot more. ;)

My want list not in any particular order;

If powder and primers continue to come down in price and become more available I'll replace what I've shot since the pandemic started.

I'm thinking about building a night time hog hunting rifle. Probably a Remington 700 short action in 300 BO with a suppressor and thermal vision.

There are a few classic handguns that I still want. A Browning HiPower, a Colt Gold Cup, a S&W Model 27, probably a few more. I'm sitting on some money from selling a few guns right when the pandemic started but I refuse to pay these much inflated prices.

I haven't had a bad year for a wore out retired guy. We moved and bought a new house. I lost my shop in the deal but increased the size of my loading room. Including a new bench top, another bench, several sets of nice shelves. I also bought enough Lapua brass and Berger and Sierra hunting bullets to see me through to the other side. I also built a nice Deer Rifle and bought another Concealed Carry handgun. Probably a few things that I'm forgetting.

My goal is to rent some revolvers at the range, and to select one that is affordable and concealable. I am quite proficient with semi-auto pistols, and have been since being issued a M1911 in the Corps. But my near 81 year old hands are getting worse from arthritis, and I have retarded its advance since it showed up in my sixties.

I have never fired a revolver, but I know that I don’t have to rack one and that will eliminate a handicap for me. So I have made my goal for 2023 to try and then buy. That will be fun. I love the look of revolvers. I think I’ll like owning one. Sad thing is I cannot get 15 round capacity I am used to. I’ll get over it.

I've vowed to shoot and do more rifle load development., Revisit my hunting loads and target loads maybe get something better. I sure hope component supplies hold out. :)

I'd like a PCC. Not sure if I should build or buy. Been wanting one for a number of years but other things happen. Still want a .223 bolt action, or something close..
Still looking for a single action in .32. Those are my top "wants", at least today.

I did solve the .45 Colt lever action itch this bast year so I'd like to load and shoot more for that which goes with the above line of more shooting and load development. Overall shoot more while still trying to hold the line on supplies.

Hopefully have a happy, healthy, and prosperous new year :)

My wants/needs are covered already (well, maybe one more:)) so I'll continue to concentrate on shooting what I have. I'm still good on loading components for a while but if prices come down some more I'll increase my primer supply.

@BreechFace, I like the idea of a thermal scope, too.

I just don't know where to begin...

I have a few buddies with ATN's and they seem to do the job, but I haven't tried them out yet.

Would love it if @Double Naught Spy and whoever else on this site would do a breakdown in prices, features, and what to look for. I may have to start a thread sometime in the future and request peoples personal experiences as well as suggestions in different price ranges.

When I was at Tumbleweeds last week, a guy there let me look though a couple of IRay scopes. It was daylight and I have no experience with which to compare them, but they were pretty slick.

I second the motion of a dedicated thread.

Like to get me a good affordable 22 rifle.

Maybe a tx 22 or something also. Got a hankering for the little beretta bobcat and tomcat. Gonna keep an eye out.

Colts are calling my name again. Ugh.

So is the old ppk/s. I keep contacting walther to release 32 acp versions. I think I'll keep up this harassment. The ppks in 32 is so awesome.

Maybe a pcc from ruger.

Most of all, enjoying what I have in good health with good friends and family!

I really have no gun Goals. I'm not a gun collector. I have what some would call a lot of guns. But I don't "collect". I just " have". Most guns I have I don't really even shoot much. Maybe now and then. Some I do. I have wants, wish I had. Right now I would like to have a 380 and a 40 cal. But tomorrow that might change. Sometimes I tell myself that I need to get rid of some. But I won't. Somewhere up above somebody said something like " Just to shoot and have fun". I guess that fits me pretty good.

I hope to shoot what I have more than this year. This year was bummer for shooting in my case. My wife had serious health issues this year that took a great deal of my time but she is much better now. I have been suffering from a serious hitch in my get-along at the same time which made things even more difficult but I have improved a bit in the locomotion department.

I picked up a TC Encore rifle at a gunshow in late January this year and haven't even shot it with the barrel that was on it. I need to do that plus a few other acquisitions that have seen little use. I'm going to try to remedy that in the coming months.

Get two S$W 686+ revolvers (7 rounds each), one on each hip, for 14 round capacity. I think Ruger has a .38/.357 in 8-round if you want to go for 16 total.

Nice with revolvers very easy to get a padded rubber grip to help tame some of the recoil from beating up your hand. Just keep your other hand away from front of the cylinder where a lot of nasty gas blows out the gap and can damage flesh.
