I am curious. For those who buy .45acp, what is your favorite round to buy? Also, I am thinking of buying some flatnose(flat point) FMJ ammo in this caliber, but don't know what's worth trying out.

WWB for practice and Georgia Arms 230 gr Gold Dots for serious use/carry.

Have a couple of K of 200 gr swc reloads that work great in one 1911. When I run out of those, I'll reload another 3 or 4 K. :)

I usually reload my own and tailor the load to the gun. When I buy ammo for one of my 45's I usually go to Walmart and get the 100 round box of Winchester USA 230 grain FMJ for $19.99. It's cheap, it works, it's readily available and it is reliable.

Range rounds: Blazer Brass or the well-known USA [Winchester White Box]

Serious Socializing Ammo: Remington 230-Gr Golden Sabre

Also use a Commercial Reloader's stuff for range rounds National Bullet Company of Eastlake Ohio [www.nationalbullet.com

Blazer Brass and UMCs

When I can get 200gr LRNFP reloads from a friend of mine for $8.00/box, this is the best target ammo I have found to shoot in my SW1911.

For practice ammo, I've used a lot of S&B and Winchester White Box. At equal price, I prefer the S&B.

For more serious uses, I like 230 Gr Golden Sabers for standard pressure loads and 200 Gr +P Gold Dots though the latter is a notoriously questionable feeding round.

WWB for practice until I get some reloading supplies.

For personal defense I choose Speer Gold Dot 200gr +P out of a 4" Kimber Pro Carry.

Mostly WWB or S&B hardball. What do you all think about WWB 230 gr JHP for defense?

Sellier & Bellot 230-FMJ from Natchez @ $8.25/box of 50. Great stuff, accurate, and reloadable!

Natchez also has Rem UMC 230-gr FMJ @ $7.99/box. I haven't used this one myself, but have read that it is very good as well.

Before I started reloading mostly S&B 230gr FMJ with the occassional WWB thrown in. The S&B ammo is IMO superior to the WWB as it is more consistant and a bit hotter.

Now I reload. For practice I use a 230gr FMJ. For SD a 230gr Hornady XTP. My Sig gets HP-38 and my 1911 AA#5.

Remington 230gr Golden Sabre for serious work!
Georgia Arms 230gr FMJ -- Canned Heat -- for the range & other fun stuff.

I'm still in the early stages of trying it for all-round practice and carry ammo. Gotta admit it's hard to give up carrying 230-gr standard Gold Dots, but I don't feel any less well-armed when i have the USA45JHP WWBs in it.

In my informal testing (set up by a NASA engineer shooting pard) it performs very, very well and has not plugged nor failed to expand. This thru 4-layer denim, 1/4" ply and water jugs (or clay). They held together extremely well without shedding its jacket from the core.

It is as accurate as any other brand I have tried. And the flash is quite low, almost equal to the factory Speer Gold Dot 230-gr cartridge. Velocity standard deviation is about normal <20 fps.

Practice? UMC, PMC, Federal American Eagle, Winchester White box 230-gr FMJ

Rearranging a bag guy's plans? 230-gr Hydra-Shok or 230-gr Gold Dot.

Competition: Federal Gold Match SWC 185gr.:Reliable, accurate, very little recoil
Carry: Speer 185gr +P, JHP: Reliable, accurate, lots of muzzle energy.
Everything else: 230gr. hardball based on $, mostly Fed. Amer. Eagle, Blazer Brass, Aquila, Win. white box; all about the same with slight differences in point of aim. I have also run S&B, Zero, Black Hills and Speer Lawman. My finicky SIG P220 turned me off to S&B; my S&W 625 doesn't like Zero. My Kimber seems to be able to digest everything without getting an upset stomach (without me getting an upset stomach, that is.)

Carry: PMC-El Dorado 230-grain Starfire JHP. Feeds and functions flawlessly. Reliable expansion and nice thump.

Practice: Anything that's affordable, and often reloads too.
