What's your favorite handgun caliber?

.357 - for some reason the recoil feels great in your hand, feels crisp but not overpowering.
.45 Colt - Gotta love that power behind that round-nose.
10mm Auto - Feels like a 9mm, performs like a .45. Well, almost.

Sadly, I don't have any .357 or .45 firearms. Wish I did :(

1) 9MM
2) VERY VERY VERY VERY close tie between .40SW and .357SIG (Although I KIND OF like .357SIG a LITTLE bit better :p)
3).45ACP

45 acp

GLOCK 21 in 45 acp or either my trusty 686-1 in 357. I use the GLOCK for home defense, the 686-1 for road trips, w/ a ROSSI 5 shot 38 spl for my full time backup weapon.

45ACP.
I have thought it through.
If I ever have to pare it down to 1 caliber.
I will sell off everything, build a half dozen 1911s in 3-, 4.25-, and 5-inch models. I will have two of each, plus one longslide for good measure.
Both 3-inch guns will be alloy frame models -- Colt Defenders with the internals replaced with the best on the market. They are carry guns.
I will have one alloy frame and one steel frame 4.25-inch gun. They will be set up for carry as well.
Both 5-inch guns will be steel frame guns. One with adjustable sights, one with a Dokter sight.
The longslide will be for hunting and long range plinking. It will be 45 Super capable, adjustable sights.
I will miss my 22lr handguns but as it is I shoot way more 45 than 22lr anyway.

For What Purpose????

If it's for plinking; then a 22LR is very cheap and fun. If you want more oomf; then a 7.62x25 tokarev. It's definitely a better caliber than a 9mm; 1700 fps and 500+ ft/lbs make it better than just about any handgun round except for the 357 and 44 magnum. Obviously, it's a 308 caliber; so a 45acp is better in the fact that it makes a bigger hole. But the 7.62x25 ammo is only about $6 a box of 50 if you buy bulk. $140 for 1250 rounds.

I'm not sure...

I own more revolvers and pistols in .38 Special than any other caliber. Adding .357 Magnum as in ".357/.358 bores" I have more of them than dang near everything else. Yes, I like the caliber.

Next on the list is .45 ACP. I have several different pistols and revolvers in .45 ACP. Just like .38 Special/.357 Magnum, it is versatile and easy to load.

However, in terms of emotional investment, I have a serious attachment to both Super .38 and .44 Special.

I suppose .44 Special has to be the favorite, but that doesn't mean it's the one I use most.

Double Tap 9mm+P 147 gr. gold dot JHP is my absolute favorite. .70 caliber expansion with 15 inches of penetration sounds ideal for just about any use to me. I like to carry it as trail gun because of the capacity without a reload compared to a revolver. I bet 16 rnds of this 9mm load would deter a bear. We have wolves here in Duluth MN, but they don't bother people. For my Smith 638 snub, Im loading it with Winchester Supreme PDX1 .38+P 130 gr. JHP. This the newest "tacticool" .38 snub load out there. It's basically a ranger bullet design that's bonded. It has a little dot in the center like Gold Dot and Golden Sabre JHPs do. Must be part of the bonding process. I also like Double tap 125 gr .38 +P gold dots. HOT!!!!!

.357 if only because you can also shoot .38 spl out of anything chambered in it.

.22lr is a close second because of cost reasons. I shoot those more than anything.

Since I prefer semi-autos to wheel guns (love wheel guns) my order of preference in handguns is as follows...

.45ACP
.357sig
9x19mm
.357mag
38 special +P

I dont much care for or see the need for 40S&W (I like .357 sig much better).
Can't see carrying .44mag for SD and likewise with 10mm (although I would like to own both for the sport of it).
