Why Ruger is my favorite handgun maker

Ruger makes great revolvers, but their autos are lackluster and forgettable.

Interesting post. I have an old P-94 .40 caliber pistol that I spent a lot of time learning with. My only real gripe with the gun is I don't like the slide mounted safety. I honestly wish it was decock only. I also have a SR 1911. It is a nice pistol & makes me look like I know how to shoot. My wife is recoil sensitive I got her a full sized American 9mm. I'm not really a revolver guy although I do own and like an old Dan Wesson model 15-2 I picked up from a pawn shop back in the 90's. Before everything went nuts with the pandemic stuff I was looking hard at the American 9mm Compact. Buds had them for under $300. They have been running significantly higher since then. If I see them come back to $300 or below I may buy. I have been wanting a Mark series pistol forever. There are some of their offerings I don't care for but there are others while maybe not the nicest thing available are a good value for the money spent in their category. Of course I believe that is what they are going for.

Finally, Ruger offers a wider variety of firearms than any other manufacturer I can think of

The only type of common firearms that I can think of that Ruger has never made are single-shot, pump and auto shotguns. Derringers too if you want to include them as "popular" (I don't).

Browning has made a lot of different kinds of firearms too; I suppose their biggest "deficit" being revolvers.

I was late getting on the Ruger bandwagon, but I've come around. The last 5 handguns I have purchased within the last 2 yrs are all Rugers.
MKIV 22/45 LITE, MKIV 22/45 5.5 TARGET, SR22, ECS9 & SR9C. They have all been absolutely flawless. The 9's have over a 1000 rds through them and the 22's have 1000's & 1000's of rds through with the SR22 getting close to ten thousand rds. Ruger's customer service is also 2nd to none. Fantastic firearms , fantastic company!

For me, I have always been a Smith & Wesson guy for Double Action revolvers but Ruger for Single Action revolvers. My recent experiences with S&W regarding their QC and QA are causing me to reevaluate things when it comes to “new” gun purchases. I have yet to own a Ruger DA revolver. I do believe it’s time to change that and give them a shot...pun intended. :D

For autoloaders I am a Glock guy.

Far and away more Ruger handguns than any other brand, ranging from the diminutive LCP to a 7.5-inch Blackhawk Bisley Hunter.
Long guns favor Remington, but there are a couple of notable Rugers in there, too.

All my Ruger handguns are older and were acquired used. Pretty much the same with the other brands as well. I am not too enamored of any of the current Ruger Polymer offerings. BH, SBH, MKII, MKIII, old P series, that's about it...

I like Smith revolvers.
Have had a few.
Had some old 3 screw Rugers,... SBH, BH, SS ( couple of each ).
Pops was in the RCA.
Just sold my last fingergroove 1022. Pops still has his 44.

I recently got another #1. Only Ruger rifle I really like and they aint perfect.

There is one fairly new Ruger handgun Im interested in......the adjustable sighted Bearcat

Too freakin cute! Makes me want to start trappin again.

I dont target shoot anymore so dont need a lot of specialized items.
My cz455 is all the .22rf I need and yeah, its tolerable, not up to the hype though ( imho ). Just dont shoot enough to justify 1500 for a .22 sporter ( Anschutz ).

A MK2 6 7/8 tapered bull would be coo Sold my MK1. It was clean.

I absolutely detest the Ruger warning labels and newer stuff has it smaller and on underside. So......proly need to buy a MK 2 and have a bbl swap.

And D&T. LoL

If I buy another used Ruger DA revolver it would be an old half lug GP100 or another Six Series revolver. A couple years ago I saw a nice old GP100 half lug 357 for $425 locally. I've been kicking myself for not buying it and haven't seen another since.

Ruger Mini 14's at the range. Mine is the stainless with the folded stock. The stock is worth more than the rifle. Not my favorite 223 rifle but it was pretty fun to shoot.

That Mini folder is a true B.A.Baracus special!

Very nice. Gun Digest Magazine did a cover story on those very Mini 14 folders last month ;).

Stay safe.

I, too prefer the half-lug look of the GP. The Ruger full lug profile doesn’t come close to the good looks of a Python or a 596/686. The Kimber revolver sort of copied the GP profile... I don’t know what it is, they just don’t do anything for me :(.

Stay safe.
