I don’t know formal target scoring rules, but I’m sure Mav or someone else does.
I should have explicitly stated the scoring, but I was thinking that the majority of the hole (50%+) would be in the appropriate level. Which would make yours a "95" as I count. If we (not me, but rather the majority) want to modify that we can, but I'd rather keep it as challenging as possible due to the short range (lest we end up with a lot of ties).

:)

Fine by me, Mav. Like I said, I don't know formal target scoring rules. +50% in, call it 95, good by me.

P51D:

Geez, nice shooting. I won't bother to post my miserable 105 benchrest target after seeing your 130.

Do you print the target out normally, or does it need to be "blown up" first? I have a regular inkjet printer that will print out 8.5x11, but I don't know if the target it supposed to be bigger or not.

Also, I know bipods and such are a no-no for "unsupported" class, but what about if you're sitting at a shooting bench (don't know if this is allowed or not) and have your elbow on the bench for support? No bipod, just the elbow. If benches are out, I'll shoot prone, but figured I'd ask since we have benches at our range and they nice to shoot from :)

Thanks!

Oops, forgot to mention that...blow it up to full-size. :)

Sorry, idiot question here...are they blow-uppable (is that a word??) to the correct size on a regular printer (i.e. make the scaling box go to 100% or "full size" and print them on 8.5x11 paper) ? I apologize for my low degree of computer literacy...I might be known for certain things, but computer smarts isn't one of them!!!

What's your ruling on the shooting bench? I was thinking of sitting at it, but not using it directly as a rest, just my elbows resting on it to help steady the rifle (this will be in the "sporting rifles/unsupported position") and "with optics" class).

Thanks again, this should be fun!

Yep, for the optics target you can print directly from Adobe Acrobat [Reader or Pro], and for the non-magnified target you should be able to print from your browser.

Sorry for not answering you before. Phone call + me sidetracked = me hitting "post" prematurely. Resting on your elbows (on the bench) is fine.

:)

Purchawk - I scored my targets incorrectly and vastly inflated my score

I scored a 95, so your 105 will take care of that.

Mav - Just to be clear: You're saying we can sit at a bench, and rest our elbows on the bench, and still be in the unsupported category? Just looking for clarification.

Thanks

That is correct...does that seem unfair? Seems to me that it wouldn't be any greater advantage than prone.

Mav - that's fine by me. I just wanted to make sure I understood the rules. ;)

Yawl let me know (preferably not in the middle of a match) if you want to modify any of the rules (or anything else), we operate as a democracy. :)

Thanks very much for the response. I think I will brave the foot of new snow and weekend forecasted cold and run some rounds through the good ol' Marlin 60. Being a college student makes it hard to have one of those expensive target rifles, even though it's been on the Hannukah wish list for some time :)

Now that's the spirit, I'll be here in sunny Bahamas drinking a nice mojito in your honor...jk, I wish. :D

Happy Hannukah, P.

:)

Thanks man...now if I were able to get a bullet through each of those stars or bullseyes, that would be a heck of a bigger miracle than keeping some old lamp lit for eight nights in a row. :D

My uncle and myself are the only Jewish guys I know who are gun enthusiasts...my dad not so much, but he has been known to pull out the 1100 from time to time and break clay. Not to hijack the thread, but a local gun shop found/inherited an old box of German war regalia some years ago--all the stuff the bad guys wore, SS stuff, swastika bands, you name it--and interestingly enough a local Jewish couple bought most of it. I thought that was kind of odd until I heard the shop owner tell me why the couple had bought it. He said that the man had told him it was, "So I can show my children, to let them know this can never happen again". It almost brought tears to my eyes, and I'm pretty hard to crack.

Ok enough wishy washy stuff, off to find the Marlin and hope that scope is still sighted in the way I left it last time, or else I'll be spending a long, long time recalibrating my optics.

Enjoy that Mojito :)

I own a old German SS Sports Medal, but fear not, I fully support the nation of Israel and have nothing but respect for the Jewish people. The medal came from my Grandfather and the guy he pulled it off of probably got the stink beat out of him bout that time. :D

Good luck;

Mav. :)

P51D - The matches, all prone, single shot, and slow fire, were all scored the same. This was with the IL Valley Rifle League. If it broke the line, it counted. They even had magnifying plugs to really look at those close ones. I never did shoot a match, but I watched them all the time.

Never participated so I have questions on where class this falls under.

-Ruger 10/22 stock model except for a 4-9x scope. Can still use Irons though because the scope is raised.
-Shoot from benchrest, or leaning against a post standing. Is leaning against a post considered supported? Also is Prone considered Supported?

Nothing wrong with beating the stank outta the guy who was wearing them...I would have joined in! They are interesting little pieces with a whole lotta historical value, I've seen a few of them myself.

Weather for this weekend is saying high 20s and super windy. I don't have a scope with windage adjustment going up to "why are you trying to shoot right now?", so something tells me the indoor shooters are going to be at a significant advantage over me!

P51D:

Nope, I oariginially scored by the NRA system (next highest score if line broken or touched), so you still beat me by a country mile. I come in at 71 for my 10/22 and only 70 for a Mossberg 144. I got to get some better ammo for the Mossberg; I know it's more accurate than that.

Maybe next month.

By the way, my 65 year old eyes could barely see those stars through a red dot. Missed most of them entirely.

P51D:

Thanks for the kind words of encouragement. It was fun to shoot this, despite not doing as well as I would have liked.

You've got a heckuva accurate Czech gun there, and you know how to shoot it.

purchawk, there is still plenty of time to improve your score (and the one you shot may not be that bad...lets see it).

:)
