Didn't hear that story about the .223 but I do recall one where it was claimed that the bullets were supposed to tumble, thereby tuning them into mini buzz saws which would easily cut the limbs off of enemy soldiers!

I've heard that too, from an Army armorer even, or whatever the official designation is for that.

For the wounding thing I've heard that for both the .223 AND as a reason for keeping with FMJ from various veteran and or LEO/SWAT family and friends.
