April Fools Rimfire Match:

Yes, I wanted to embed the video right here. It would take the same bandwidth as posting a small picture unless you actually click on it. If you did click on it you would watch it on the same page that you are looking at now instead of having to go to youtube.com to see it. The code to do it is posted below. It is just that this software doesn't have the capability (well, the addon has not been installed at this point) to display the code correctly. Note that it is just code - it isn't a 5 meg file or anything like that.

<object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/M8d-7aza1Qw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/M8d-7aza1Qw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

Thats interesting, seems like it would slow things down quite a bit...thanks for the information.

:)

I found this in the tech support section of THR:

we've opted to disallow embedding videos from other website as a favor to those with dialup and to keep the number of links to videos of questionable content to a minimum

The reference to dialup doesn't really make sense (for the reasons I mentioned) so I think it is just so they don't to worry about policing the posts (i.e. when I start posting porn videos).

I might jump in on this one. Put a set of Tech Sights on my 10/22 over the winter, went out today and re-shot some of the targets from last year's matches, and wow, what a difference. I also removed the barrel band. My groups have tightened up. Now it's time to put it to the test.

UGH, finally got around to taking my friend to the range this morning and we FORGOT to take the 10/22! Did manage to shoot the target with my Remmington 1100 12 GA from about 10 yards out. I was going to take a picture of it but I forgot to do that too...

Don't feel bad, I have been fairly busy this month (and the later part of last month), but I did manage to make time for the big bore stuff and make use of a relatively new steel target (thanks to Uncle Mike...who BTW is the man) for a little long range fun. :uhoh: I think I'll be able to shoot the match right at the deadline though...weather permitting.

:)

Target Class Non-Magnified

Mav: Here's a target I shot today, but I am not really clear if it was OK to color in the circles on this non-magnified target. I couldn't possibily see it without the color, so if that's not in the "rules," then just ignore this.

I score it as a 37. The second target in the top row just breaks the center dot when you put on a .22 scoring guage.

I hope to get the 50 yard magnified target in before the end of the month. I just finished a Ruger 10/22 rebuild today I'd like to try, plus my old Mossy is still shooting well.

Coloring the target is just fine...looks like it helped too. Not too shabby.

I will be out of town, for about a week, so forgive me if I abandon you guys for a few days. Should be back in time for a little shootin' though, so long as the weather holds out.

:)

Just curious how is the second target from the left on the top row scored a 3 ? Doesnt seem to be touching the center dot?

I used an NRA scoring guage to score that target, which is what I said in my post. The guage just breaks the line.

Scoring gauges show the actual hole made by the bullet, which is usually larger than it appears to the naked eye. This is how official NRA or US Bench Rest compeition targets are scored, so I thought it was legitimate. I have a guage that I use for NRA pistol competion and USBR targets.

If you think I'm cheating, I withdraw the target. I don't need aggravation over this contest.

Is there a big prize I'm unaware of? I don't remember getting a check or a trophy when I won the non-magnified unlimited target in Feb. or when I tied for the magnified unlimited division in March.

Easy now, as I said I was just curious on how you came about the score . I thought maybe I was scoring wrong.
I didnt know what a scoring plug is, as I'm sure most of us dont have access to them.
I didnt ever intend to say that you were cheating in any way.
I know what you mean about the targets being hard to see with irons.
Still really hard with them colored in
Heres my attempt
Hard to be consistant with the wind blowing the target stand
If I didnt score this right someone please let me know. A few were real close so I scored them the lower score
Target class ,non magnified, iron sights
Kimber 82 Bolt action
Rested on range bag
Wolf Match ammo

Orlando: Sorry I took your inquiry wrong. I admit not everyone has a guage. If you had one, I'm almost certain both your top row, far left target and your third row, far right target would score as 3s.

After a bullet goes through a target, the paper closes back over the farthest edges of the hole. A scoring guage is precision-machined to just fit the diameter of a .22 bullet (which is not really .22 of an inch) and it defines the edge of the hole accurately. Some guages have a plastic magnifying collar to make it easier to read the close ones.

I think it may e best to limit the scoring to what is visible by the naked eye, to keep it fair for all participants, the vast majority undoubtedly not having access to a gauge, and I am certain most aren't even familiar with the device. Please don't take this as an accusation of cheating, or doubt, just tying to keep it fun and fair.

:)

I didn't do so great today, Kinda rushed it plus it was pretty windy today. I'd like to get another one in before the end of the month, but just in case I don't, Here is my submission. Forgot to add that the rifle is also equipped with a cheap Bushnell 3x9 scope

Mav: I guess I see your point that this should be less formal than the other kinds of competition I take part in, so I'll step aside and concentrate on them. Please withdraw the target I submitted for the April Fool's non-magnified target class.

purchawk, please reconsider and dont drop out.
This is just all for fun and we need all the entries we can get.
Just leave you submitted target as is or shoot another!

If I had a rimfire Rifle with iron sights, I'd do the other class. Is there a rimfire pistol match? If not, there should be!

Agreed. Please take no offense, purchawk this is not directed towards you, and not necessarily regarding the use of a gauge, but it seems like very change, revision, or lack of either comes with someone that quits participating. I have tried to make the match both fun, competitive, and most importantly bring new shooters into the fold; but it seems like I spend more time reffing than anything else. Between a greater work load and all the arguments I am honestly starting to regret taking over the match. :banghead:

Not that I am aware of; not being a pistol person myself (and no longer owning a rimfire pistol), I never really thought about it. You should start one. ;)

Maverick
You are doing a fine job, and I think you made the right decision.
This will let everyone have a equal chance and hopefully get more particapants
Running something like this is a learning process and will have some bumps in the road.
Please dont give up or get discouraged
