i'm single too...

then again...

i'm 15...

so far i only have 2 pro-gunnies... i girl you could almost say was my girlfriend thought i was paranoid with the idea of CCW, and was afraid of guns(i'd have tried to bring her to the range to familiarize her, but, again, i'm 15.)

anyway... there's my story. not much of one, though.

Mine's not a gun widow, not by any stretch.

Wife #2 has been a real departure for me. Her dad's a retired Marine GYSgt, she was the only girl among three male siblings, and her vocabulary can make a sailor blush if she so desires. For a while, her dad gave her grief for marrying an Air Force puke, but all was forgiven once she sent him pictures of the Gewehr98 arsenal. Hard to believe this cute little 5'2" pixie:

Grits her teeth and tears the center out of an X-ring at 100 yards with a Colt:

And has the gumption to launch a few 405gr blackpowder rounds into the steel swinger from offhand. Note the grin and recoil stance:

So I'll keep this one for a while. (If only she'd bait her own hook...) :D

It's comforting to know the Ruger #1S can handle the stoutest of loads...

But it's also a heck of a lot of fun to make pretty darned accurate blackpowder .45-70 loads, using 55gr of FFg, 5gr of WW231, Wonder Wads, swaged Marcel® bullets, and Crisco as the bullet lube. Smells like a Chinese takeout kitchen each time a round is fired, and you can actually hear the round as it impacts the berm at 100 yards. There's that beautiful cloud of smoke, wafting back towards the munchkin in the picture above, too. The BP loads are so comfortable to shoot, she's not intimidated by them, unlike my Beartooth 405gr/Reloder 7 2100fps zingers. (Which intimidate even my 6" 200lb carcass)

Rotfl - :D Agreed there must be a certain ''charm'' - but rather you than me with the mess!

I load two 45-70's - one is medium pressure for BFR - 41.5 RL7 shoving 405 Lasercast. And for #1 - 52 of 3031 (virtual compressed charge) (until used up then switching to RL7)... it is quite a screamer with an element of ''ouch'' factor. I too am 6 and 200# - so must be similar build... I am just an awful lot older!!

I was planning on 49 grains RL7 for my screamers when I get to them - what's your top load for the ''zingers''?

Ah, Grasshopper, you must note that I cheated...

Agreed there must be a certain ''charm'' - but rather you than me with the mess!

No mess. Or very little mess. See my BP load info above? There's a pinch of smokeless pistol powder in there, against the primer, before the main charge of charcoal gets drop-tubed into the case, ie, a duplex load. The charcoal burns hotter and cleaner, and I have no fouling problems. Looking down the barrel from the breech, the residuals resemble light fly ash in consistency, and are very sparse in their distribution to the muzzle. Cleanup is a pinch, no rougher than normal smokeless cleanup.

Work up to that 49.0gr Reloder 7 load very carefully and gradually. That's what gave me 2100fps with the Beartooth gas-checked 405gr bullets. :what:

Thx again Gewehr - I had not realized that ''duplexing'' did in fact clean things up so much - in which case - a much more attractive proposition. That hopefully also keeps the brass fouling much more bearable too.

The ''screamer'' load, yeah - that will be handled carefully, worry not - anything up ''top end'' gets very special attention :)
