Texas Open carry idea

OC all the time.
I might get warned for this comment, but it needs to be said.

It seems like the Anti OC people are children who are trolling. They make these wild claims about the weapon being stolen or snatched, and then claim that you will be arrested by the police for OC.
I spent a lot of time researching this stuff, and it just isn't true that you will be arrested for brandishing or armed to the terror.
Sure if your state doesn't allow OC it is a different story, but if it does OC away.

Sort of makes me wonder if the Anti OC group here are really anti gun.

I wouldn’t say that is universally true, Mike. There are various opinions regarding OC that don’t relate to being anti-gun. I, for one, have no desire to OC though I’ll do everything to support my fellow gunnies that wish to do so.

OC is far more comfortable and the more people see guns the more accustomed to them they will become thus toning down the ‘sheep factor’. OTOH, it could backfire on us. CC is ‘Out of sight out of mind’ in my opinion. Texas is a fairly open place when it comes to CC. My main concern is the loss of places to carry if the soccer moms start complaining to the various business owners. It could lead to the proliferation of 30.06 signs just to pacify the sheep. Will it? I don’t know. This is just my personal concern and should be taken as any other personal opinion.

Once it is passed allot of people will OC for a bit till the thought of victory wears off then the state will go right back to normal like nothing happened. Texas will still be a great gun state and it will only get better.

Are you talking to me,Stevie-Ray?
Because Texas sure ain't Michigan!
:D No, the "are you nuts" was just the obligatory interrogative for the OP since nobody had told him that, yet.:D

And as far as Texas not being Michigan, YOU GOT THAT RIGHT!! You Texicans need to thank God for that daily!;)

Thank you,Stevie-Ray.I'm a Tarheel,not a Texan,but I admire them greatly.
God bless Texas and may they always be successful!:)

With the TXCDL, OpenCarry.org and my group, Texans For Open Carry, and according to some people the TSRA working behind the scenes I think that open carry in Texas will be a reality very soon. I have my doubts that it will get done in 2009 but I hope that I'm wrong. It would be nice if some of the national groups such as Gun Owners of America and the NRA would come out in support of open carry in the six states that do not currently have it. If they would throw their weight behind it things would move a lot faster.

Peace.

Mitchell.

This is a good theory in that people are already accustomed to seeing armed government agents and that may pacify them until they come to realize that being armed does not equal being bad.

However, most cops don't like the idea. We have too many people pretending to be one of us and we don't like something that is going to make it easier for the scumbags to prey on unsuspecting citizens.

Every week we read about another "fake cop" robbing, raping, or assaulting somebody. I, and most cops I know, agree that badges shoud be restricted to people with arrest authority. Politicians, bus drivers, firemen, toll collectors, paramedics, citizens, etc. have no authority over other people and should not have badges under any circumstances.

Mike, You need to do some better research. Several citizens have been arrested or detained for OCing in States where it is legal. Their stories litter forums such as this one pro OC sites such as Opencarry.org. Here in Louisiana we have recently seen a police department sued for a false arrest of a man OCing while shopping. You can be stopped, you can be detained and questioned and, depending on the politics of the local LEA chief, you could be arrested for doing nothing illegal.
