I apologize Mo I would also like to thank you for the welcome and allowing me to be in this club I have always wanted a 30-30 but never had the oppurtunity to own one so the 336 willl be my first like I said I already have the 308mx and the 444 and I am working on the 336 right now if you cant tell I love lever guns!!
 
Hey everyone nice club you have here.
Two thinks I would like to know I have a 336 but on the barrel its only labeled 336 with no A or W but it does have a gold trigger so im guessing its a W? Also the barrel is bent and needing a new one. Where can I get a new one?
 
search for numrich and they sell them

you will probably need a gunsmith to put it on its not an easy job

also i believe you can send it to marlin and they will do it for a fair price

does you 336 have a safety? it maybe an older model before they began labeling them
 
I have a Marlin 444s I do not know when it was manufactured and I was wondering if anybody can tell me how to determine the age of this rifle it was before they started putting the safety on them I got this rifle from a coworker he had it for about 10 years and he got it from another coworker I dont know how long he had it I would say it is about 20 plus years old but I dont know how to tell any information on this would be greatly appreciated!!
 
Cajun, post the first two numbers of your serial number and I can tell when it was made.

jeremy71504, if your Marlin has walnut stocks it is a 336C. They were only stamped 336. Of course if it has a straight stock it is a 336T(Texan). If it has birch wood and two barrel bands it is a 336W. If it has birch and a forend cap it is a 336A

No tenderloins for me so far this year, just some sausage from bro-in-law's archery deer. The weather has finally moved in, it should improve the hunting.
 
saturday was warm in the mornin hot in the day and then got freezing right as the sun went down

i was driving to a field around 2oclock and what did i see? 3 does ina cut down but by the time i stopped the truck parked it and got out they were gone didnt see any thing else all day and i was out from 830am to 7 pm

but as always the marlin did its share and was dang comfy to carry as always
 
I'm considering a 336, but had a question about the finish. My grandfather had a revolver of some sort (SA .357 I think, curiously enough) and it was blued. He went out of his way to tell me not to touch it, because if I did he would have to clean it. So what i'm asking really, is how sensitive is the finish? I'm going to be hunting in Michigan, so i don't "think" the SS model would be necessary. But would I have to clean it every time i fondl...touched it? If so would I be better off with the SS model?
 
not really its more of it its gonna sit around finger prints can set into the finish because the oil in you fingers tend to runst the metal

you dont need to worry if you keep the gun oiled what i do is i use remoil and pry a rag and just white it down once a week or so but i tend to baby my guns just whipe it down a few times a month on top of cleaning it after use and its fine
 
Can you add my name to the roster as well? I recently purchased a 336W. I went to Maine with the intention of getting a 39A(.22lr). But after playing with my gf's fathers 336 I ended up getting that instead :D. I'll try to post pics once I get them online
 
Your gf dad sounds like a great guy. First his daughter and then he lets you handle his 336. Must be another one of those younger generation things I don't understand.

Back when I was chasing Does I'd notice her daddy's gun (usually prominently displayed on the front room coffee table...) right about the time he'd ask, "What time did you say you'd bring her home?" :scrutiny: :uhoh:

Yesterday I was deer hunting just before dark with my 336 35 Remington. No deer but out comes a nice sized red fox across the field. I don't have a scope, just use the iron sites. 70 yard shot and took him out clean. Now, I'll admit the exit hole was a little large, but the taxidermist can fix it.The accuracy on these rifles are excellent. Hit right where I aimed.
