End result $225.00 for a 336a with OK-ish BSA "Huntsman" 3-9x50 scope on Weaver "see through" rings. The scope's nice, certainly better than what comes with the 336a package deal, but it's no Nikon. It does have target turrets which is a nice bonus. It does have the crossbolt safety. The rifle itself looks like it's had maybe fifty rounds through it tops and never cleaned. It's in usual used-gun condition, the stock's got some dings and scratches (just makes it good for refinishing fodder) and a few small spots of surface rust that some 0000 steel wool took right out. The only thing I don't like about the stock is the fact that it's checkered, it's going to make stripping and refinishing it an absolute pain. Bore is bright and shiny after cleaning, I haven't done a field or detail strip yet but I don't think it's going to be necessary at this stage.
It looks like there are dummy screws in the side of the receiver for a peep sight, does anyone have any idea what sort of sight will fit it? I figure since it's got the see through rings I might put a peep sight on as well.
Ended up picking up a about 80 rounds of 170 grain 30-30, 40 each of Winchester SuperX and Power-Lock, at about 8 dollars a box after rebate.
If anyone cares Marlins in .35 Rem. seem to be commanding a premium for some reason, I turned a few down since I can't get ammo at Wal-Mart. It's silly but it speaks volumes about the general availability of the round. I'll work up to one some day once I'm a bit more confident at my ability to reload anything other than pistol cartridges.
