What are your Gun Goals for 2023?

To keep what I have. To shoot as much I possibly have time to. Have a small stash of ammo & reloading components, and ever diminishing time to spend on this God's green Earth.

I'm out of safe storage space so I really can't acquire more firearms without serious investments, which at the moment seem not worth it. If I stumble on good deals about classic airguns I probably won't be able to resist, though. Pandemic taught me the joys of shooting airguns at home, and from a collector's standpoint they are just as interesting as the powder burners.

Get rid of all the "bad" guns, keep only the good guns, eliminate reloading duplicates, shoot more trap, get a deer with each legal method, win the club trap trophy, still be alive on 12/31/2023.

I've purchased components over the years for the time when I retire. It is coming in May or sooner. I won't need to buy anything for a few years.
You know. That's a really good idea. I always bought stuff when it was on sale, or, more recently, when it was simply available, always thinking of past and future shortages. I need to develop a strategic plan to keep shooting after I retire. In some respects, we should be treating buying components, or loaded ammo, or other accessories the same we approach contributing to our 401k and IRA.

To keep improving on my long range shooting. I got good at 200 yards finally. Can hit clays at 200 now. Now to work on the 250 yard range. Im getting better with that. And finally get good with the 300 yard.

Start shooting NRA High Power across the course matches. (Or NRA Mid-Range Prone) Competition drives improvement. Iron sharpens iron.

If you're in AL, CMP has a great facility in Talledega.

I want to shoot the guns that I already own more, but that takes staying healthy and restocking primers by the mid-summer, for small rifle, and large pistol. I am not looking for anymore guns, but that is not to say, I would turn down a great deal. About the only revolver's I would maybe like to add to the stable, would be a Ruger Blackhawk in 30 carbine, to go along with my M1 carbine. I always wanted a S and W 460, but I think that has passed, with me getting older. I still enjoy hanging onto the 50 AE, but I think that is about enough... but we will see.

Straighten out my my reloading room. I’ve got lots of boxes with 4 or 5 cartridges that aren’t accurate. I need to either shoot them or separate the components. My other goal is to develop a good load for my Marlin 38-55 Cowboy. I just can’t get it figured out.

I really don't have much to sell at this point...I did some selling in 2020-2022 and did okay (no losses, minor gains).

I want to add a 16" Ruger SFAR to the inventory using Cabelas Club points. I have almost $900 now.

Want to get my first suppressor for the SFAR...looking at the Banish 30. Gotta build up funds.

I also plan to continue my slow quest to find a second 9MM platform other than Glock. Looking hard at Walther PDP F series.

I do want a Glock Gen 5 in .40, either a G23 or G22...but that's a soft want.

Thinking of buying an optic ready slide for a Gen 4 G17...another soft want

Want another G44 for training and more G44 mags. These will eventually become grandkid guns.

Probably load up several thousand 9MM and build a good 10MM load

Maybe add a bolt action rifle. Would like a 6.5CM but .308 makes more sense for me rather than add another caliber to deal with...not shooting over 500 yards max...mostly out to 300. But SFAR will come first.

Put in more dry fire and BB gun practice from home

I took an instructor course through USCCA...have not done anything with it since. Not sure if I want to teach basic classes formally or not. I do a lot of informal training and firearm introduction with friends and references...

Add another Henry .22 for my granddaughter to the safe (she is 1 YO)

Start buying 9MM again if/when prices get sub $200/1000.

Keep accumulating .22LR because...why not?

Looking at some gun maintenance tools...the Real Avid bench vise looks handy... https://www.amazon.com/Real-Avid-Precision-Woodworking-Sharpening/dp/B09JVM21XR

But...we also bought a fifth wheel camper and plan to ge tout and enjoy it, so that will take a lot of time and funds at this point, so gun stuff is secondary for now.

Life is good...God is Great, and I'm looking forward to my 60th birthday in a few months. Hope you all have a great 2023!

Well if I want to save money I need to stay away from the THR enablers :)

I have been considering adding a 10mm and I would like to give a Glock another chance.
The only Glock I have ever owned was a G22c (20 years ago). So a G20 or G29 is on the list.
A 9mm Shield Plus or Hellcat fills an imaginary void I have in my ccw rotation.
I still want to try a Ruger American lefthanded in 308 but 7-08 or 6.5 would work also.

As I mentioned the enablers showing all of the different revolvers keep me thinking that I need one of them and one those....
@Michael Tinker Pearce keeps doing videos and starting threads with ole treasures made fun again gives me ideas also!!!!

I also want to do some gun swapping. Sell some off that I lost interest in. Buy some that I hope will be on sale or factory rebate.

Enjoy what I have. I've got 200ish 30 caliber 190 grain BTHP bullets. Get this...they have been in my reloading stuff since High School. I'm almost 43. I think it's time to send them down range.

I have a fast twist 243 custom barrel that's been waiting years for my factory barrel to get shot out. Bought back when a fast twist 243 was the hot thing. Time to just do it.

So I have a question for you and it’s this what are your Gun Related Goals for 2023?

I’ll post mine in a bit I want to see what yours are:)

Finish a custom shop P320 build I've been piddling-with and then finally get out to the range with it, see if it is going-to-be my ultimate speed/carry gun for the rest of my life.

Build a solid 600+ meter AR platform rifle in 7.62x51 and get it tuned-in/broken-in and up-to-snuff with some handloads.

Finally decide upon which 300 PRC platform I'm going-to go-with. Toughest decision I've had, firearms-wise, in years.

And finally ... in 2023 I'm going-to get back into IDPA/IPSC/USPSA competitions. I've got a couple more months of rehab ahead pf me but I figure, right about the time the Doctors release me, things will be warming-up in March and I can start hitting my range here on the property again ... then enter a couple of late Spring to early Summer matches hopefully. That's my goal anyways.
